Young X-Men

Its a blatant McGuffin, it has no purpose other than what you said.

That's a sure sign of crappy writing, no character new or old should be a plot device.

Layla Miller sure fell close to being the same thing, but thank god PAD came along and recused her from the mess Bendis created her in.

If they wanted it to be a longrunning villain, then it needed to be featured more prominently and actually look like a real threat to them. Just one arc and then popping up in the background once in awhile doesn't count. Real good villains are ones that are constant threats to their characters and can give the heroes runs for their money in both the physical and mental areas. Pred X is nothing more than a mindless eating machine which does not make it a good villain, just a cliche.
It can be argued that a good villain can hang in the backdrop of everything going on and never make an appearance until the "big one" that counts.

But then, that said, it's not like Kyle and Yost really did that with Predator X, either. So moot point.

Sabretooth was a mindless eating machine :o

But there was a cunning ruthlessness to his actions that you could tell that he was more than just that. That's why he's so recognized as one of Logan's top foes.

I think Rogue was best when she had her Ms.Marvel powers

I loved Shola too. I thought Spec and I were the only ones who even read that Excalibur run :D

I didn't read it on the regular, can't stomach Claremont, but Shola was a great inspired hero.

I like Rogue less powered, her base ability is much more appealing

Sabretooth was a mindless eating machine :o

Sabrtooth had personality, cunning, some crude humor and charm for lack of a better term.

The 'Tooth' man actually had a solid function as a mirror to what Wolverine could be, Predator X is is just a super powered hunting dog.

I liked it better when Rogue could fly and punch the **** out of stuff.

When I was 12, I made a comic book featuring Rogue, Thor, The Thing, Colossus and the Hulk. I called them "The Heavyweights." :)

If Young X-Men gets rid of the crappy characters from New X-Men and introduces some new ones that are actually cool, I could see myself giving it a try. Kyle and Yost don't seem to be great writers judging from the few issues I've read of NXM so far, though. Hopefully YXM'll have a new creative team.
I can't even draw proper stick figures
Hey, proper stick figures are tough. :(

The junior X-teams have all sucked. Generation X was by far the best of young mutant books.

New Warriors must be a bit of a Godsend to you I suppose. At least you get to see Jubes and Jono back in action, albeit ***ked up though when Chamber's concerned. How'd you take Husk's fling with Angel? Whatever happend to Skin?

Skin's dead. Jubilee in NW's is good. Jono's new look and power set makes me cry. And the Husk/Angel thing is from a period that I choose to forget.

Ew, that Husk/Angel thing made me hate Husk so much. I'm ashamed that she's related to Cannonball. :o

Yeah. That was rather tasteless. She'd be like what...20? And Angel'd be....old. Or as Richard Gere told Winona Rider unconvincingly "Older".

I pity Jay though. He deserved a chance with Soraya or one of the Cuckoos at least.

The age difference is a non-issue. Having sex in front of your parents is the issue.
