Salvador Larocca? He's a "superstar" penciler. He's worked on Fantastic Four, Uncanny X-Men, Ultimate X-Men, Newuniversal and X-Treme X-Men among other things.
You probably just didn't recognize him, since Davis didn't draw him like any other artist I've seen.

That's him on the far right. I usually love Davis' art, and the rest of the redesigns on that cover are pretty good, but that Cannonball one is terrible beyond words.
Larocca sucks now. He was THE writer back in the late 90s/early 00s, but something happened to him and he just isnt as good anymore. He was burning himself out drawing for multiple Marvel projects at a time and you could tell the quality of his work was suffering. So he got bored and has since been experimenting with his art style, and he hasnt found one that worksOh! You mean Salvador Larroca! See, I know who that is.
I do not know who this Larocca everyone seems to rave about is, however.
No, Larocca's best art was in X-treme. I wish he'd go back to drawing like that. That was him at his high point. When he became regular artist of UXM, his art was also good, as was the case when he moved over to X-men. I dont know what happened but it started to go downhill after HoM. He was doing that book and the Spider-man HoM mini at the same time and it was like he was rushing to get both out and not taking his time with it.It also marked the beginning of the end for Larocca's awesomeness.
Everything up to God Loves Man Kills II was classic X-Men stuff. I loved it.Nothing about Xtreme X-Men was cool, dude. Nothing.
the ONLY good thing about X-treme was Larocca's art. He was the main draw for that series. Once he left (which was right before GLMK2), it became very apparent just how bad it really wasEverything up to God Loves Man Kills II was classic X-Men stuff. I loved it.
IA with that but its really not saying much. I actually preferred his work on UXM in Revolution but that might be bc I preferred the team of Storm, Phoenix, Cable, Gambit and BeastEh, although I agree that a lot of the beauty of the art was dependant on Liquid!, I really don't think X-Treme was that bad a title for its first two years. It had some pretty solid stories, and some decent characterization. It's certainly the best of Claremont's work since his return.
Which is why Marvel demoted him to New Excalibur and now New Exiles...lolHis latest Uncanny X-Men work has been pretty bad, in my opinion. He just flat out refuses to render anything.

Wow. Uh, great? I mean, really, great. I'm glad you think so.Larocca sucks now. He was THE writer back in the late 90s/early 00s, but something happened to him and he just isnt as good anymore. See? PJ corrected his spelling of it.Larroca relied way to heavily on Liquid! to make his art look decent. He got lazy and he's stayed that way ever since.
Lorocca -- Best. Gambit. Ever.Oh! You mean Salvador Larroca! See, I know who that is.
