YOUR all time favorite movie action sequences!

Somebody's mentioned Apocalypse Now's air cav assault by now, right?

....right....?!?!? :wow:

Agreed on poster who put the Chernobyl finale from Universal Soldier: Regeneration, brilliant action scene that lasts a good half hour.

Really any action scene in T2: Judgement Day

Schwarzenegger and Harrier jet in True Lies.

Aliens surrounding the marines and Ripley with the turrets shooting at the aliens in Aliens, also one of the most terrifying moments in a movie. When you realize the aliens aren't completely mindless, as they force the turrets to waste all their ammo, and surround the peeps in the one little room.

Batman taking out the swat team and Jokers goons at the end of The Dark Knight, the closest we've gotten to full blown comic-book badass Batman. Hope to hell they keep the white lenses in the new one.

Thor vs Frost Giants in Thor, mostly because of that sweet flying maneuver through that thing:awesome:

All the action scenes in Deadpool... f$^# you I can dream can't I.

Back with more;

10. The Battle of Little Bohemia. Public Enemies.
11. George Chambers vs. Uri Boyka. Undisputed II
12. Escaping from Arkham with the Tumbler. Batman Begins
13. Once the sheeit hits the fan, until the end. Black Hawk Down
14. Night Club Blood Rave. Blade.
15. The Concentration Camp Uprising. Children of Men

You know one thing that I'm finding in common with most of the picks here....?

The length of the action scene. A lot of these battles/scenes are epically long....some taking up pretty much a whole reel.

That's something that Hollywood these days tends to gloss over in action movies. They're in such a hurry to get their ADHD audiences in and out the door so that the next screening can start at your local multiplex that they don't even take time to craft the action sequences. GL is the most recent and most blatant example of how NOT to do action --- "battles" that are over before they even start.

Bring back the extended action sequence, Hollywood! For the love of Crom!

You really have a point. Cameron was really good at that..you thought it was over, and it simply kicks up to another level.

I was kinda happy with the final action sequence in Captain America. It definitely felt like a throwback to the Indiana Jones-type, intense, multi-tier action sequences of yore.

I didn't mention the first stuff on your list, cause those are definite no-brainers for me. But after seeing Thor again this weekend, I think I have to agree with the Frost Giant battle. That scene rocked.

Anything from Aliens. I loved the first fight scene because the marines walked in talking tough and ran out screaming in terror in a matter of minutes.

Even though i hate the movie, I gotta say that scene near the end where Optimus comes out of no where and takes out about 10 Decepticons including Shockwave in Dark of the Moon is amazing.

Also the freeway chase.

I highly recommend The Raid. It's an Indonesian film that just premiered at TIFF and it has some of the best and most exciting action scenes I've seen in a long time. It's my favorite film of the festival this year for sure.

One ocured to me.The T-rex battle from Peter Jackson's King Kong.
I remember the first half of the movie seemed long, but when this scene finally hit..wow!
Probably one of the most relentless action scenes in the last decade.

Conan The Barbarian (1981): The Attack on Conan's Village

Conan The Barbarian (1981): Conan, Valeria, and Subotai's assault on Thulsa Doom's harem.

Conan The Barbarian (1981): The Battle Of The Mounds (IE: Conan & Subotai vs all of Thulsa Doom's men)

The motorcycle chase in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

pretty much all of predator.

Lion King - Mustafar saves Simba from the stampede (Zimmer's score, and the directing in that scene is Disney at it's finest)

Just as a note, Mustafar is a planet in Star Wars. Mufassa is the Lion King character.

My favs:

X2 - Nightcrawler's Assault on the White House
Karate Kid - Final Round with the Broken Leg (both versions)
Hancock - Hancock fleeing the hospital
Matrix - Subway Train Station Fight Neo vs Smith
Incredibles - Infiltrating Nomanisan Island (Bob or Helen)
Phantom Menace - Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon vs Maul
Cradle 2 the Grave - Jet Li vs DMX (if for comedic value only)

The final fight scene of Kiss of the Dragon in the dojo and against the two blonde guys was always one of my favorites but I didn't like the music much in either scene so I re-scored it with music from Bruce Lee's Game of Death and added my own sound effects.

Tank scene in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

The Empire Strikes Back - Battle of Hoth

My nerd awakening call.

Heat - THE Shootout

I just love the understated delivery and how messy this gets from one second to the next.

Rob Roy - final Duel

Probably one of the best pay offs ever.

Solomon Kane: Kane and his reavers besieging that African city and attacking its castle. Also, Solomon Kane vs the sorcerer and his demon.

TDK: Truck chase

TDKR: Batman/GPD vs Bane/mercenaries and citizen soldiers.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two: Battle at Hogwarts

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End: Maelstrom

The river barrel sequence in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug was one of the most recent notable actions scenes I've been impressed with.

Perhaps I've missed it, and it bears repeating anyways, but the chariot race from Ben Hur really is among the greatest action sequences ever.

Also, Buster Keaton's The General is just non-stop action once it gets going and basically one long chase.

I don't know about all time, but I'm really fond of the ax fight part of Snowpiercer for this year. Not the least of which is because there are several phases of it, it covers many moods, including slapstick, there are character decisions to be made in the heat of it, and it successfully pulls off "our heroes are screwed" to "okay, maybe not".

The only one I didn't see listed is this one

[YT]watch?v=79ditPebZ8g&index=4&list=PLYXLk6LwrxgMbRhE6Xp5Zs5j5PUAo9lit[/YT]

-Optimus kicking arse in Dark of the Moon
-Highway chase from ...Winter Soldier
-Batman's return in TDKR
-The showdown at the Bond estate in Skyfall.
-The opening planet chase on Star Trek Into Darkness
-Footchase in X-Files: I Want to Believe
-Anything from Aliens
-The final chase/rescue in the Lone Ranger reboot

The Mission: Impossible movies are all standouts. Ironically, looking back over them, M:I II is the weakest for me in the action department. Woo's direction was all beauty, but didn't ever get my heart going. The train sequence in the first, pretty much every action beat in 3, and all of GP still put me on edge watching them. They're all rides, where 2 has sort of become like looking at an aquarium of exotic fish. Pretty, colorful, but boring.
