Yeah, it's a glitch in the Matrix...Hype....Hypetrix. Just look at the first post on the page I'm linking. JannTosh's avvy is bigger than his/her post.

Someone edited my sig. Considering my interactions today, it was probably Hunter, but I am totally curious.

The invasion has begun. Soon, all avvy's will be giant black helmet thingys. I'm not sure what happens next, but I'm scared. I'd ask Squeak to hold me, but I'm afraid I'd squish her. Maybe I can just put her in my shirt pocket, and head pat her. As long as she doesn't tear up the tissue in my pocket to make bedding out of it.

Walking out of the theater I had a pit in my stomach over TLJ.

I took that to be about what happened to Luke, but it really hasn't gone away since. I feel like part of it was me trying to make it work for me more then it actually did. A bit like Rogue One, though I feel like TLJ is clearly a better film then Rogue One. Seeing it since, it hasn't really held up well. A lot of my issues center on Rey and how her storyline plays out in relations to Luke and Kylo. The third act has some of my favorite material in the saga, while being a bit of a disaster to me at the same time. Also, I am not really a big fan of Rian's Poe, Finn doesn't do much, Chewie's character almost completely disappears again, and Rose... well Rose has a very good first scene and then because the woman running around with Finn.

All that being said, there is a lot I like in TLJ. Scenes specifically. Luke and Yoda, Luke on the Falcon, the throne room throw down, every second Snoke is on screen, Rey's first lesson, Luke reconnecting to the Force. I also think Kylo's storyline is really good.

I know this is a discussion for the SW thread, but personally I walked out of TLJ with my enthusiasm for the new trilogy completely drained. Where I walked out of TFA wanting more trilogy.

I'm sure I'll go see the third film in the trilogy. I just felt the movie was such a mixed bag. For me personally, it was like episode 1 all over again, minus Jar Jar.

Of the last three films, I'd only watch Solo again. It was flawed but an entertaining movie.

Exactly my feelings. TLJ not only killed the hype for me, it even kind of retroactively killed TFA by taking the dangling plot threads in such underwhelming directions.

At this point I like Rogue One best because it doesn't **** up the ongoing narrative.

I am not a huge fan of TFA. I think it is a GOOD movie, but it is not a GREAT movie. I have my issues with it. I actually think TLJ was way better. Like, miles better. JJ Abrams I find overrated. He makes good movies, but nothing that knocks my sox off.

That said, thank you Mr. Abrams for funding and facilitating the remastering of Phantasm. That was 100% awesome of you

I love The Force Awakens. The Empire Strikes Back kind of love, and that is my favorite film. What made TFA for me even more special, was the beautiful possibilities in presented with its ending. And then TLJ... well yeah. A lesser film, from a lesser director/storyteller, that hurt the entire narrative of the saga, while forgetting that this woman named Rey was the actual main character. Also who takes Poe, the antithesis to the generic, annoying hot shot pilot, and then just turns him into that? Ugh.

I know how much you loved TFA Darth...I just cannot see why, LOL! I know you've explained it to me, and I get your argument for it...but the movie has nowhere near that type of effect on me. It just basically makes me say "Okay that was fun. I wonder what else is on?" I don't think or reflect on it at all. TLJ had a far greater impact on me. I reflect and think about that movie, its themes, etc. Not to the degree of any of the OT films, but closer than any of the other Disney Star Wars films.

TFA I think is a good movie and all. It just doesn't speak to me in any special way.

I am not going to get into the more filmmaker qualities that I prefer with TFA over TLJ. I think the idea that TLJ, which is full of supbar green screen is somehow a better looking movie then TFA is kind of crazy. But that just feels like a dance nobody wants. :hehe:

But I will say, no movie had ever got me more invested outside of the OT. It is really that simple. Since I can remember, Star Wars has been my thing. And after seeing TFA, I was happier then I had ever been walking out of the theater. Not just the first time either. The other 4 times I saw it in theaters, and the 50 or so times I have watched it at home. It doesn't feel like Star Wars to me, it is Star Wars. It is everything I grew up loving. Its a beautiful looking film, with characters I instantly fell in love with, while honoring everything that I love about what came before in Star Wars. The movie is fun, funny, and thrilling to me, and never once treats the audience like it is some error to love Star Wars. It has two real errors to me imo, but to me those are very small and I call look past them.

I can understand that it did not have that effect on you. But I probably have never spent more time discussing a movie then TFA. Looking back on it, reflecting on it. TLJ had a very big impact on me, but not a good one. Especially in terms of a lasting impact. One of my great worries is that after IX, I will see the end of TFA, Rey climbing those Jedi Steps and meeting Luke ****ing Sykwalker, and instead of getting that rush of adrenaline, I will instead look on it with sadness at what could have been.

Help me JJ Abrams. You are my only hope. :woot:

Which is fine. If it speaks to you that way, that is cool. I know you're not a huge fan of The Avengers, which is amongst my favorite movies (and still stands as my favorite MCU film...pending Avengers 4, LOL). So not everyone sees these things the same

Yep.

In the end, I don't think anyone can control how a movie makes them feel. You can try, and I did that with TLJ, but in the end you feel how you feel. and that is what matters on a personal level. I do think it is a bit unfair to look at TLJ though and say it was the home run with the majority of the world that TFA was. Since the return of Star Wars, I don't think it has ever felt like less of a "thing" then it has since TLJ was released. And I like it better then Rogue One. But Rogue One seems to genuinely hit with a lot more people.

TLJ I think conclusively was less popular than TFA. I don't think there is much of an argument to the contrary. But I agree, quality is relative to the viewer.

Since TLJ's release I've watched it more than any of the other films. In spite of its issues I'm more drawn to that film. I appreciate it's against the grain approach. And the way it focuses on the characters' mistakes and the consequences of those mistakes. The film is less concerned with being a fun adventure romp and more concerned with its characters. And I love that Luke wasnt just a superhero throughout the whole film and that he didnt spend the last 30 years being a flawless Jedi. I like that he wasnt some paragon of righteousness and that even after he rejected the Emperor and Vader he was still just a human with human emotions and human weaknesses. Rian gave us Luke the flawed man and Luke the Legend in a single film and I liked it. Now I just hope JJ sticks the landing. Now that TLJ has put the characters in their most desparate hour and dealt with the negative consequences of their mistakes I want Episode 9 to be more of a traditional heroic adventure story. JJ is pretty good at those so I'm not too worried.

Oh it is concerned with Kylo and Luke, I agree. Not many others though, especially Rey. Which sucks imo, its her story.

TFA is my least favourite of the new films, and probably sits towards the bottom of my personal rankings.

TLJ was the most beautiful-looking Star Wars film to me. By FAR.

I enjoyed TFA but it's very middle-of-the-road to me visually, as are all of Abrams' films.

I just... the green screen is so much worse then TFA, RO, and Solo. Once the throne room catches on fire, it looks a mess. The backgrounds for Finn vs. Phasma are just not good. The First Lesson looks completely on a set by the way its lit, and that is before we get into the weird composition work for the establishing shot. Crait during the day time is beautiful, but once the sun starts setting, it screams set. Rian didn't even seem to know how to light a lightsaber in daylight, so it looks like a tube. :funny:

Also, there is something about how JJ shots his action, that makes his ships feel like they have weight and are really moving, though Rian definitely wasn't bad there. But there is nothing that rivals the Falcon chase from TFA in that regard imo. I'll take the force fight over the Throne room anyday, though I love both. And let's not get into the never ending story chase. :woot:

And in terms of just iconic shots, for me it goes Empire, Awakens, Star Wars... and then a battle between Rogue One and TLJ. Though neither of those last two are slouches in that regard. Rogue One is sneaky strong in that regard.

There is literally nothing in this post I agree with. :funny:

TLJ is the first and only SW film I've ever seen shots from and thought, "that is stunning." The rest just look...fine to me.

Rogue One and the Last Jedi are the two best Star Wars film, IMO.

TLJ in particular was beautiful.
