Sooo..... any opinions on OMD and BND???

:yay:

It's funny, because JMS's newest interview at Newsarama pretty much hits the nail on the head as to my views on OMD. First let me preface by saying I'm by no means a continuity nazi - I love a great story - and I'm fairly open-minded with my comics. Where OMD failed for me, whether I agree or disagree with the direction taken, was the internal logic of the story. It was very apparent that the ending was not crafted by a WRITER, but rather and EDITOR. It violates all sorts of rules to the craft of storytelling, and hence it can be seen for what it is, a selfish move by a man with little humility. Quesada was blinded by his OWN feelings toward how the character should be portrayed over what the fans, and even the writer of the story wanted. At the end of the day - if JMS's true vision would have been printed, twins continuity erasing, Gwen and all - at least I could have accepted it as a story rather than a 4th wall breaking editorial interference. The ends DO NOT justify the means - 'who cares, it's magic...' attitude adopted by Quesada made me sick from a simple artistic perspective. I would not have like this story either way - but I could have accepted it, been indifferent to it, maybe even secretly liked it for stirring the pot, but as it stands I ****ing abhor it for what is is, and also what brought it to be.

The only problem I would have had with JMS' original story is the fact that ASM #100 onward would have been eliminated, thus starting over again with the ol' gang still alive and such...

OMD certainly sucked donkey balls, but at least Marvel's Spidey history has been relatively unchanged (with a few exceptions that we will hopefully see in the next few months) up until now.

:csad:

You can almost sense a Willow/Buffy showdown or something... I heard that Season VI was much darker in tone...

And thanks...

:yay:
It is darker, and it isn't, at the same time. I dunno. You'll figure it out

It pissed me off big time and I think ALOT of contunity has been changed. Alot more then what JMS apparently wanted when he was originally writing the story.
the only change he wanted was to reconn was Gwens kids with Norman which makes sense since that was Joe's idea and not his. But bringing Harry back, having Aunt May not know his ID anymore and the return of web shooters were all changes that should never have happened and with the exception of the web shooters regress any and all character development that's been put into him the last 10 years. I think the Aunt May reset is what pissed me off the most.
I dont' know, I just found it hilarous that the last issue had a bunch of JMS's peers saying how great a run he had and how much he had brought to the character but now all those great things he did are taken away. It's fooktarded.
Anyway, I'm really tempted to drop Amazing, something I never thought I would do but I'm honestly considering it. :csad:

Oh and
bringing Harry back is so ****tarded. It really screws with everything that was interesting about the Peter, Norman dynamic now and Normans character in Thunderbolts is going to be fooked up.

fook.

You're wrong when you say that JMS' changes were less when it came to continuity.

If they had gone with JMS' story, everthing from ASM #100 would have NEVER HAPPENED... Peter was going to help Harry with his drug addiction from ASM #96-98, thus altering what came afterward, including the death of Gwen...

OMD did indeed suck donkey balls, but something made Peter and MJ walk away at the altar, yet they've been a couple ever since... that is until recently, so all the stories that we've read with them as a "married" couple still occured... just that they weren't married.

:csad:

So they had unprotected, premarital sex and MJ still had a stillborn/kidnapped baby? 'Cause I distinctly remember Joe Q saying that the reason the twins turned out to be Norman's was because he didn't want to portray Spider-Man as having unprotected, premarital sex with Gwen.

So apparently, through this deal, Spidey became everything he wasn't before? o.o

Mephisto seemed like he was still willing to deal, I would have at least asked him to throw in a bigger wiener and cash.

That's not what he was saying in this interview. http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=141756 From what I understand JMS didnt' even want to bring back Harry, as it makes no sense that changing the marriage would bring him back to life. Either way, I decided last night I'm not collecting Amazing anymore. If they fix this in a year I'll come back via trades otherwise I'm done. :csad:

for yoda :o

get a Wii :cmad:

so did you see this video, yoda? CTOAN? **** you guys :cmad:

anyway, I'm wondering since I don't know what you guys are talking about with ASM...does this mean Spider-Man's secret identity is no longer public?

The interview states exactly what I said...

Anyhoo, as I'vementioned waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many times around here, while I'm not happy with this continuity "altering", I just want to move on with good Spidey stories, which I'm convinced I'll get with Slott and Co.

Because if they have to retcon this mess in 18 to 24 months, it'll be an even BIGGER mess than what we have now... and Spider-Man will truly be lost to me.

So I'd rather just forget about the last 5 to 25 years of crap, and move onward.

That's correct... it's been forgotten by everyone.

Sorry, from what I gathered JMS was against bringing Harry back. Regardless, the bottom line for me is that I've already read those Harry stories and I have no desire reading about a Spidey that can't confide in other hero's like Daredevil and Wolverine and hell even Luke Cage. Now I'm going to have to read another story where they discover his ID all over again. It's just such redundant story telling I have no interest in travelling down that road again. So like I said, if this a story where in a year everything get's fixed I'll come back. But otherwise I'm am soooo done with Amazing. It's really depressed me. :csad:

JMS was against the lack of explanation to Harry reappearance... if JMS had had his way, then Harry would have still been alive and ASM #121 would have never took place and neither would have Sins Past, which is why I believe he wrote that ending. Who wants to be forever known as the guy that wrote Sins Past.

Anyhoo, while I can't tell you what to read, the first issue of BND was REALLY GOOD.

Give it a chance.. you might be surprised.

All the hooplah I made about dropping the freaking title and I come home and it's in my stash :(.....

...anywho....my thoughts.....honestly TMOB, and I'm not going to nit pick it to death, but I wasn't feeling it at all.....and I'm being honest with you when I say, deep inside I thought I might...I thought I might pick it up, read the Slott goodness, and begrudgingly keep the title......

.....I personally believe it's essential to the enjoyment of the medium, that you have some type of emotional connection with the character and the story....hell even if it's anger (See "Other, OMD)....this comic invoked nothing.....I felt no connection to any of the characters...not even my man Pete!

..none of these :whatever: :whatever: ...none of these   ....or these :bh: just nothing...dead air....

I'm not here to insult it, but if I'm being honest I'm really glad I got a chance to read it thoroughly as opposed to skimming it at Walmart....because now I won't wonder if I made a mistake dropping it, I didn't!

.....but we can still toast to the Essentials :word:
