I think BvS will still be talked about in 20 years where some of these more commercially successful films will be more/less forgotten. I enjoy both universes but I was surprised how much I hated Thor Ragnorak...it was like one big joke?? Didn’t feel any of the dramatic story points because some quip was soon to follow...shame because the trailers made it look visually genius!

If they just treated
Odin's death, the existence of an actual sister for Thor, and the destruction of Asgard
a bit more seriously, then I think the movie would have been amazing. I still really enjoyed it, but I enjoyed it for what it was. It could have been more. I like to laugh during my movies, but I also like to be moved. I felt more emotion in the first Thor movie than I did in Ragnarok. I laughed more in the latter, but the former felt more dramatic (aside from some slapstick humor). A balance of the two would have been nice for this last movie.

Yea for sure, I absolutely agree. Nothing wrong with moments of levity. I just wish they’d found a finer balance between the two. I can still see where BvS may be too much drama and not enough levity. I think the first Iron Man balanced extremely well. And Nolan’s trilogy did a good job in this regard too. I think it’s safe to say that the DCEU may be too dramatic and the MCU too comical. Just muh 2 cents.

That's what MCU & SW excel at nowadays.. drawing ga in with visually stunning trailers.

Question for the BvS lovers here: Would you rather the movie have been less ambitious, complex and layered and not have a dedicated, passionate following for the sake of a widespread "it's a good movie" consensus from everyone and positive critic reviews?

Like, the movie would be a straight forward clash between Batman and Superman where they make friends in the end and face off against a common enemy without the political, social, philosophical and psychological subtext, the subtle visual story-telling, the esoteric stuff ect. in exchange for people agreeing it's good and then just kind of moving on and forgetting about it like with Dr Strange or Civil War?

A simpler, World Finest style movie without all the Snyder bloat? And liked by the masses? Hell yes! Sign me up.

Because that way perhaps today we would be talking about MoS2, Flash, Green Lantern, JL Dark, Batman solos with concrete release dates in mind instead of this weird limbo we're in right now.

After MoS (which I liked) they needed to do what Star Wars The Force Awakens did. Get people on their side again. Because now look where we're at. MOS was a step in the right direction but the sequel needed just that little extra that was missing to get people to embrace this universe and the new Superman.

Thats the bigger issue for me is that they didn't even properly follow up on Superman's path they set up in MoS IMO. Less Snyder bloat and a great memorable film are not mutually exclusive which I think a lot of people think it is for some reason.

But I guess it's fine so long as people have their "political" movie. That **** didn't even resonate with me because I didn't care for the the way it was presented and was too busy not believing the decisions they made in the editing room. It took the Ultimate Edition for me to kinda enjoy it and kinda see all that stuff.

BvS didn't change my life and I don't give a damn about people still talking about it in 20 years because guess what? A lot of the time that talk is negative.

Edit: just seeing that this was aimed at BVS lovers which is not me. But still, my two cents.

i love how it pisses off half of the fan-base.

i'm like michael jackson in the theater eating my popcorn in the thriller video when reading people go back and forth at each others throats in the message boards.
Bruh, don’t say it. Just post that glorious gif..

Zack strikes again with the mysterious shots that couldn't have been screen-grabbed from the actual movie.

I'd just like to see all the footage that was in the Zack cut, don't really care if I see a complete original cut or not.

Chance of that happening is slim to none, imo. Or at the very least, not anytime soon.

So Joss said he jumped on a movie which was near enough complete. So that means that a Snyder cut exists?
Snyder keeps giving hints about it on his Vero account.

April's fools, man...April's fools.

That was an April Fools joke.

Edit: Yeah, what Polux said.

A film about what happened behind the scenes would be better than the actual film it would be about.

I feel that Snyder's film was mostly finished, wb saw it, decided they no longer wanted that vision/version, and changed things at the very ( literally ) last min.

Cant blame Whedon, they prolly told him you have X number of days to do this, and that's it.

Can't blame Snyder for it all either, WB hired him knowing what they would get.

What a mess. They have taken from us a first. A first that some have waited decades for.
This was the first time to ever see them all together, it wasn't the 2nd, or the 3rd outing for them. It was the 1st.
Sure, they could reboot in a few years and get it right, but that doesn't change the fact that they still screwed this FIRST outing up. How do you do that.

I understand this criticism of the movie itself, but this was EXACTLY the film the trailers sold us. This did not bother me in the LEAST as this was not the point of the film. The purpose of the film was the crazy ass road trip between Bruce/Hulk and Thor.

That's not to say a film like that CAN'T have the gravitas, I just never thought that was part of what they were going for, nor was it needed. At least I didn't after the first trailer, or hell even after they announced Taika Waititi was directing.

Now, when they initially announced the TITLE was Thor: Ragnarok, long before they had a director, I was ABSOLUTELY expecting it to have that kind of gravitas. But yeah, after they announced Waititi, and ESPECIALLY after that first trailer, absolutely ALL of those expectations went out the window and I was fully on-board for an off the wall, wacky, visual spectacle.

Agreed

Yup.
but if i had to choose between the lesser of two "evils", i would've wanted to see snyder's full vision instead.

I hear what you are saying, but Waikiti is capable of great humor but also heart. I am not talking about grounding the whole movie, just the few scenes that should have been important (Odin's death, whom we've seen for multiple movies now and know how important he is to Thor; the existence of a sibling that Thor never knew he had, and the destruction of Asgard, which was made to be important in the first two movies). The movie is already very tonally different from the first two, but I can accept that, but with a few tweaks, they could have gone from a really funny movie to a really funny movie that was also moving. It's weird watching the first two Thor movies knowing how little aspects of those movies will matter by the third (oh yeah, and the Warriors 3, they mean nothing now).

I agree. It was too much to cover in one movie. It's like a synopsis albeit with some great visuals. So much occurs off screen.

Also, that scene in the second prologue when the horse is trotting by Bruce as he sees all the carnage can be seen as the knight losing his horse as his kingdom collapsed, in other words, the knight himself has/will lose his mission.

Oh yeah, absolutely true. They certainly could have, and it probably would have been a better movie for it.

It's funny, I seem to have approached my viewing of TR and JL in near complete opposite ways, lol.
