Deadpool 2 Zazie Beets officially cast as Domino in Deadpool 2

I definitely got that, and I do appreciate the visual but I was just explaining why I think what they actually did was better than doing this despite its accuracy. Its basically cuz it's boring and something I've seen before. IMO of course.

Fair enough, I've never really tried to argue that no one should like the new look better. I obviously don't like it at all but you're free to like it better, it's all subjective at the end of the day. I just think the tone of the thread, where people are saying it's only a "slight" change when it's pretty clearly a drastic change (hair, makeup & costume are nothing like any of the comics variations) and even worse, calling people racists for not liking it, is a bit much.

I hear ya. I just don't think comic accuracy is always the way to go especially if another way comes off better.
The Batman costume is a great example of what I mean. The All Black look with the yellow symbol or the look in Begins looks a million times better to me than the silly more comic accurate cosplay costume that Affleck wears but thats me. Its hard not to laugh at him in it cuz he hilariously looks like a giant grumpy cat.

I say if you can improve something then why not?... I feel they succeeded.

I'm not always 100% against non-comic accurate costumes... if it is an improvement. Some characters in the comics just have awful designs that need to be changed. For example, someone earlier posted Heimdall to show that his look was drastically changed for the movies... But the costume change for that character is lightyears better than the comics version, same with Hawkeye even though his movie look is rather boring overall, it's still a huge upgrade from the bright purple spandex look from the comics.

Is this case, I think Domino's comic look is great, I've always thought she was one of the better looking characters in comics. I'd actually argue that the #1 reason why the character has any fanbase at all, seeing as she's not widely popular, is because the look of the character jumps out at you immediately, then you read the characterization and realize it's more than that. I think this new look is a massive downgrade and it's disappointing because it would have been easy to pull off. This new look is very generic and dull in comparison. Again, just my opinion.

And again I'd like to point out that the comic look is great together with Deadpool, it's a great visual contrast that works together perfectly.

(I also prefer an all-black Batsuit... but I do think the new batsuit is a massive improvement over what's come before. I definitely hope to see Wilkinson's take on the all black suit at some point)

With some characters I just think... "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"... This is one of those characters IMO... (*cough* The Joker *cough*).

Thats ridiculous. She is white. This movie version isnt but the character she is based off of, most definitely is

Has this ever been stated in the comics? I haven't read a book with her in it in quite some time so to my knowledge they've never shown what race she'd be if she wasn't chalk white.

People may not realize it but Hawkeye's look came straight from the comics. It happens to be one of the more comic accurate look out there, literally being ripped from the pages of The Ultimates, which plot was used as inspiration for the first Avengers film

We do know she's not black nor has ever been meant to be a representative of a woman of color.

Even if you want to argue that she's Asian, that's still closer to the white spectrum than the black she was cast as in this film. It's still comic inaccurate to her look

Wait...what? How would Asian be "closer" if the original character is white, lol? If a person's gripe with movie Domino is that it should be a white actor playing her then that same gripe should apply to an Asian actor in the roll.

If it's never been stated how do we know? And if she's Asian that would make her a "woman of color".

Funny, ask people in the summer of 07 if Joker was broken, they would say yes.

You are correct, in that case the comics realized his purple costume was ridiculous and made the upgrade. But I'm sure you know the look I'm referring to as well, and that it was around longer... they hypothetically could have used it and it would have been awful. Not too different from the hypothetical that they could have went with Domino's blue and purple costume that has the headpiece posted earlier in the thread... that probably would have looked pretty bad in live action too.

But yeah, basically there are some costumes that don't work in live action that need to be changed for that reason, some that are just bad in the comics in general and should be upgraded, some that need a tweak here & there for modernization purposes etc.... But some just shouldn't be changed much, if at all, because they are amazing they way they are. It's all in the execution, I think the large majority of comic costumes can work on the screen if executed well by costume designers and I think that should be the priority when designing the costumes unless it's blatantly obvious a change is necessary.

That's a fair point to some degree, though I don't think it's a great comparison for this conversation. Since the TDK Joker at least had the Purple suit, green hair, chalk white face and red lips, all staples of the character. The only thing this Domino has is a patch around her eye, everything else is different, including the color of the patch.

But again, I'm not saying anyone is wrong for liking this look better. The thing that is wrong however, is calling people racists for not liking this new look. The rest of my comments are just having a conversation really, I'm not attempting to argue or change anyone's mind.

I dont see how any of tht improved the character's looks. To this day, I hate how Mystique looks onscreen. They messed it up from day one and it never worked. Everything about her look is a mess

Domino is sexy. Seems like you are arguing two different points, bc making her black doesnt make her any sexier than had they made her white. Ar you talking about her clothes bc again its not too far off from what she's worn in the books

I was referring to her clothes especially around the chest area.

How? Asians come in all shades, but generally speaking, skin tone is closer to a white person's than what we have in DP2. My statement was simply on skin tone color. I have not advocated for an Asian actor in the role.

I never said she was Asian.

Thats where I feel the opposite is true cuz its been done on screen before but I get you.

Again, Domino has a history of sexualized costumes from the books. DP2 one is rather tasteful compared to some of these

I havent read through every post but were there people actually advocating that? Because DP2 Domino basically has a variation of her modern look from the books which she has used for the better part of the last 15 years

An Asian or caucasian skin tone is still not accurate to the comics.

It is in the original post that prompted my response. Obviously makeup would pale the skin out and would look less extreme than on black skin

I really like this character. I would have much preferred a 100% faithful translation but Zazie does look great regardless and I think this could be a character that works really well in Deadpool (and hopefully X-Force).

I didn't say she was not sexualized in the comics, almost every X-Woman were treated like that.... I was just saying that Fox are willing to make her look sexy than to Make her look closer to her comic book look.

 Chalky white skin is an unnatural skin tone no matter what. That's like saying painting Lou Ferrigno green looks "less extreme" than painting Zoe Saldana green.

Really like the goggles, even though I'm guessing that's not part of the look. And like that in this light, you can better see the blue in her outfit.

Basically this, with higher production cost, next to Deadpool would have look perfect.

I know that Domino had different looks in the comics before, some more revealing, but I prefer her more geared up. This uber-cleavage look does nothing for me.

I said pale the skin out, not make it completely chalky white. Something like this would have worked out effectively and the makeup would have been less extreme than trying to make a black person's skin whiter

The color doesnt look unnatural and isnt too far off from how Domino herself has been depicted at times in the books

When the complaints are her skin and hair, there isn't that much of a functional difference.

There will always be a few who push it to the extreme. The majority is regarding unnatural makeup so she looks more like her comic counterpart. That could have just been a black patch on the eye.
