Well, I think the inclusion of that 'call me MJ' line as much as it could be just a throwaway line also kind of ruins the possibility of having the 'real' MJ show up. I dunno. At this point as much as I am enjoying the majority of the MCU version of Peter/Spidey, the side characters are mostly a negative imo. So, if they did include a real MJ I'm not so sure I'd end up liking the character. I'm just speculating of course but they've given me no confidence that we'd get a great classic adaptation, which is what I'd want. So...just leave Mary Jane be and continue on with Michelle. Like I said she could end up being a great character in her own right but she's clearly not MJ. Even if they want to call her that.

Maybe it's harsh of me to say but I kind of would love it if Michelle died or ended up a Skrull. If she died, Peter could have his first taste in, like Uncle Ben, he can't save everybody and what that can do to a person---let alone a superhero.
If she was a Skrull, it could mean that maybe the Skrull took the "call me MJ" line from the real Mary Jane Watson and used it and came up with an artificial persona "Michelle."

Plus, I'm just really not a fan of the character. Very annoying; didn't really see a point in her character or reasoning for being in the film. I could've accepted Zendaya as Mary Jane Watson if they went there, but instead they decided to create this character that was just "there."

With Michelle already calling herself MJ, it's highly unlikely we're gonna get another MJ (Mary Jane Watson) down the line.

I'd say Michelle Jones is the pseudo-Mary Jane in this Spiderverse.

I do agree with others who say it's a bit annoying and frustrating to have Tom Holland be so letter-perfect as Peter and then be surrounded by weaksauce or wonky versions of supporting characters. I wasn't a fan of any character in Homecoming beyond Peter and Toomes.

Homecoming was just an introduction for the character. When Zendaya was hired, tptb said she would have little screen time in it, but her role would be bigger later.

It was kinda obvious they were setting the character up for a bigger part in the sequel or the 3rd film. i wasn't convinced Liz was gonna stay around for more than one movie because she was kinda bland and seemed like she was just there to look pretty for peter to gush over.

As for where they are heading with the character of Michelle... who knows. maybe even a spot in the new Spider-man comics to validate her a comic character.

So she's gonna be some kind of love interest, maybe? Or Spider-Man's quirky civilian sidekick. They don't have to "dump her" and I don't think many people are asking for that. They just want "real" MJ. Based on Feige's words, real MJ could still make her debut in this series

Since they threw in the MJ line in the first place for this character whose obviously gonna be the love interest, i really doubt they have plans to use another MJ as love interest.

I feel like they know they what they are doing when they made this character, which is why Liz isn't the main love interest going forward, which would leave a door open for MJ later on and probably make more sense to do.

I think this is something that people tell themselves to make themselves feel better.

I don't see what Sony would get out of it making a new MJ character for the MCU. especially when you have a character like Liz that you could use, instead you go for one thats new? its not a risk that i think Sony would ever do due to them being a very paranoid studio, but its a risk i think marvel would take and be confident with.
