Far From Home Zendaya IS MJ

I mean Zendaya is pretty "glamorous" in real life (she does modeling for example, and she seems fairly charismatic and charming from what I've seen of her). It's why it was a surprise to some that she was playing a character like "Michelle." So if they want to make her more like traditional Mary Jane, all they have to do is have her start acting/dressing more like her normal self, and come up with an in-story reason for it Not hard really.

I do agree that making a big thing about the "MJ" reveal only to then introduce another MJ makes little sense at this point.
I mean there are a lot of ways the MCU versions of characters are not like their comic counterparts. Ned Leeds for example. I doubt we see him become Hobgoblin anytime soon.

Wait so does no Harry mean no Norman Osbourne? Jesus Christ

For now, at least. Hopefully.

Good. The absolute last thing I want to see in future in Spidey movies is more Harry / Norman / Goblin shenanigans.

she was actually my favorite part of the movie. I just hope at some point she dyes her hair red!

They would have to pay royalty to Marvel because Marvel owned those characters and not only their movie rights.

Definition: A royalty is a payment made by one party, the licensee or franchisee to another that owns a particular asset, the licensor or franchisor for the right to ongoing use of that asset.

What he said in one of his videos: "Sony Picture does not want to use original characters in any Marvel Studios films. Because if they started using them,[…] then guess who receives loyalty to those characters? Marvel Studios. Which is why they have this mixing match (of characters) which has never really done before."

That would explain why Michelle is the female lead of this franchise. Since Sony 'created' this character, they wouldn't have to pay Marvel royalty.

Mary Jane was going to be in asm2/asm3 (before it got cancelled) so this doesn't make sense. this would also mean Aunt May or basically any supporting Spiderman cast couldn't be in the Spiderman movie because of royalty checks so none of that makes any sense at all

I though more Ava Ayala, but maybe they could use MJ in a better version and give her powers? like in the ultimate spiderman series?

I'm still of the opinion they could just write her as classic MJ, never mention her new name in the sequel, and make her work. I see how they "ah-ha! What a twist!" plan they had for her was pathetic, but the character and actress can still easily transition into a more familiar pathway.

If it was me, I'd have her be revealed as the "Secret Secret Keeper" for Peter in the first bits of the movie; establish that her observations about her crush clued her in to what he does in his off hours, but since he won't tell her yet, she only quietly acts to help him or to excuse his absences. This would fit the portrayal of MJ as the same thing in the comics, and would genuinely be a new twist on the female love interest for the franchise if they play it right. The biggest difference between MJ here and MJ in Spider-Man 2 would be that Peter isn't pursuing her or even necessarily attracted to her at this point, so instead the focus would be on MJ acting as a friend in need.

Also, as others have noticed, Zendaya's could easily play MJ as putting on more model-ish accoutrement and body language as a kind of play on the Mary Jane character in the books and Zendaya's own career. Have her, when hanging out at school or with the academic team, dress and act like she does in Homecoming, in a casual and sardonic measure (though probably playing up her friendliness now), then maybe have Peter need a date to the spring formal, and maybe times with him for ignoring her, she goes full model on him.

Cue reference to the "Jackpot" joke in the comics, and boom, we've got a fun little situation.

Osbournes might come when Peter in college.. or maybe they skip Green Goblin stuff and introduce Hobgoblin like 90's cartoon.

It would be better to save for when Peter is more spiderman and less ironboy.:oldrazz:

Definitely don’t see Osborns in this trilogy. The next. IF there is another trilogy. Which I really hope for haha.

Another thing that makes me think we won't get the Green Goblin anytime soon is that they used one of his main schticks for Vulture already. The father of a friend turns out to be a super villain who learns that Peter and Spider-Man are one in the same... Unless they want to go to Gobby's original goal of becoming a crime lord...

Didn't Feige say once that he planned for the Spider-Man movies to be like Harry Potter? More than a trilogy, I mean.

IMO, a lot of the anger over Michelle comes from:

1) The name thing coming off like Marvel doesn't have confidence in their new take on Mary Jane (even if it happens to be good). Otherwise why not call her Mary Jane? If Marvel doesn't have confidence, it's hard for the fans to confidence too.

2) Poor timing. It's been a decade since MJ's been continuously shunned from all Spider-Man mediums. Fans would be more accepting if they didn't feel so deprived of the original (this might change after the video game).

3) Having too little screentime to win people over.

I don't dislike Michelle as much as others do, but I think the reactions are understandable at this stage.

Zendaya just recently debuted her new hairstyle...

As a redhead!

I wonder why?

High school stuff could be going by quick so college by the 3rd movie.
Peter was what 15 in HC, CW is two years before IWs so he should be 17. Unless they rush the 3 movie out and say it is a year later for him to be 18. With characters like Strange, BP, CM, Ant-Man, GOTG getting movies maybe everything in the MCU would be contained in a year, even if it is 2-3 years between Spidey 2 and 3.

I loved this take on MJ. She was smart, interesting, nerdy... a big improvement in my opinion.

I'm surprised that so many people are attached to Mary Jane proper. If ever there was a character begging to be remade, I honestly think it's her. For starters... Mary Jane... the name itself sounds fake... like porn star fake.
Second, her relationship never worked for me, because it didn't seem like her and Peter had anything in common. She was trying to be a supermodel; Peter was a science nerd working as a photographer in the city. Parker is a nerd. Mary Jane is wannabe model. I don't see how those two people get together, or even share similar interests...so it never really worked for me.

Versus this version, in which you could easily see Peter and her connecting and actually making a good team. Unlike Mary Jane who feels very superficial and generic, this MJ has her own interests and goals that we don't even know about... drawing, academic club, who knows what else. I saw depth there... which is more than most romantic co-stars in other movies. I just liked her a lot, and the actress who played her too!

Your comments about 616 comic MJ leave the impression that you don't know much about 616 MJ. Other than a very superficial understanding of her character. Which is why many, like myself, we're hoping for a 'proper' take on MJ in these new films. She's a wonderful character that has yet to be portrayed accurately...give movie-going audiences a chance to learn exactly what it is about her that makes MJ such a fantastic supporting character and an excellent foil for Peter.

Okay... so what makes her tick then? I admit... I don't know everything about her by any means. ....she's a third ring character, so losing her was never a huge loss for me.

All I know about Mary Jane is this:
1) the name is ridiculous; it sounds like a stripper name. I'm sorry if folks disagree, but it's the truth.
2) She likes to be dolled up and taken out to things like plays and such
3) She wants to be a super model

With that knowledge, I really don't see how she's the best match for a skinny, nerdish, average looking, poor kid like Peter. What am I missing? To me, this MJ is a huge improvement. She's smart. She's quirky. She's got interests outside of Peter (thank God). And she could easily get along with Peter's friends. She's not "too good" for Peter like Mary Jane tends to act, nor would she string Peter along time after time after time.

And thank god... no "tiger" nonsense. Sounds like a 50 year old woman with a cowboy hat on, trying to pick up on drunk 20 year old in a dive bar at 3AM. Not my favorite colloquialism.

Michelle looks like "Bad Era" Michael Jackson.. Maybe that's why they call her "MJ"

Peter is still so young so i guess they thought this MJ would be more suitable. :o

I think you are more likely to see Green goblin in one of the Sony spin off movies.

They will probably do this thing where she turns up at peters door looking all made up and hot so peter will notice her and she will give the tiger line and that will be the point the audience will say OMG SHE LOOKS GREAT AND IS MARY JANE!

But then i feel like i seen this type of thing in films before. where a teenager doesn't notice a particular girl until she scrubs up and looks hot
