Zoolander 2 Is Coming

Yes really. It merely rode the fumes of a hilarious first film. This one was mess from the jokes to the plot and the overabundance of self-acknowledgement.

I like obnoxious, screwball comedies but it was an immature piece of trash. Just my humble opinion.

Nah I think 22 Jump Street is as well liked as the original and it's as good. Or one of the better comedic sequels that had no right to be that good.

God bless Lord/Miller.

22 jump street was a good sequel that had a lot of good laughs mainly because of Jonah and channing.

Comedy is a hard thing to stay on top of, in the early 2000's it was ben stillers crew and in the 90's it was jim carrey. Now its seth rogens crew and in another 10 years who knows. The point I'm making is the younger audience don't relate to ben stiller and jim carrey anymore especially sequels to movies that this generation ether don't remember or weren't even born yet.

American Reunion even bombed and in 2012 and it was only a 9 year gap from part 3 to reunion. movie goers have short memories plain and simple and comedy sequels track record wise rarely do great numbers.

Zoolander 2 will most likely be another bomb in way too long uneeded sequels list.

22 Jump Street was great. I liked how it lampshaded pointless sequels that just rehash the original. Tatum and Hill made it work beyond that.

I really enjoyed the first Zoolander. But when this was announced i was just like "really?" I knew it'd be a bomb from the get go.

The general consensus seems to be "half the jokes work, half of them don't". But wasn't that the same exact case of Zoolander 1? Half the jokes in that film fell flat, the reason the film mostly worked had a lot to do with the mannerism of the characters and some of the interactions.

I think Zoolander's problem is they waited far too long to do the sequel. It was funny at the time it was released but it didn't have the pop culture presence of Anchorman to sustain a sequel so many years later.

Anchorman 2 wasn't that great either. Even the giant battle near the end was too bloated for it's own good.

They got greedy.

Zoolander 2 and Anchorman 2 are behind the times.

Now you've got Seth Rogen comedies like "The Night Before" and "The Neighbors"

Now we've got a sequel to "The Neighbors" before it gets non relevant and people forget there was a first movie.

gotta be fast with sequels man, they cranked out 3 hangover movies in 5 years.

With Zoolander it had to do with the film being a failure at first though. Anyway, is Seth Rogen realy the new big film comedian? Because his films haven't exactly been all that big. The biggest new star in comedy seems to be Channing Tantum with the 20 Jump Street films. If you want to go with comedy-only actors, then Melissa McCarthy would be the closest successor, as Bridesmaids, The Heat and Spy were bigger films than most of Seth Rogen's titles. McCarthy still has Ghostbusters coming out, which will probably be big too.

His films have actually been hits with the younger audiences.

When I say he is I mean he and his group of buddies are the new wave that replace ben stiller and his group. Seth rogens clan really took off around superbad till now which ironically in 2007 was when stiller and his clan started to loose steam. It happens in all genres of course all the time.

Zoolander was never that good, and it's existence did not justify a sequel. A Tropic Thunder sequel I can kind of get because that movie was a big hit. It got great reviews. This on the other hand...

Tropic Thunder 2 would work if they got RDJ to go a different colorface.

Even then, I still don't think Tropic Thunder 2 is a good idea. But I mean, at least from a studio executive perspective why you would get on board to green light it. Zoolander 2? I mean, even the cult audience IMHO didn't justify a sequel.

I mean I sort of liked Zoolander, but I never thought it was more than a little amusing. The film never did that well. I get that it had a cult following, but I'm still not sure that's enough to go ahead with this.

Exactly. It's a cult hit that found its audience later.

The point is, "cult" does not equal millions of people flocking to the theater in droves. It has a small following, therefore it will tank.

This happened with Sin City 2.

Zoolander came out at a time we needed to laugh, like right after 9/11, so it gets a lot of praise for just being something goofball to take our mind off ****.

Rocketman, Sin City was above and beyond a cult film. The film was made for a $40 million budget and ended up grossing $74 million domestic and $158 million worldwide. That's pretty significantly big for something like Sin City, and that doesn't fit the definition of a cult following.

I think they thought there was the audience to turn this into an Austin Powers 2 sort of it, but there wasn't. Austin Powers was a film that made about $53 million in theaters, it wasn't a bomb. It did OK, but it did even better on DVD when DVD was becoming a big deal. Then it did huge with its sequels.

I mean the first film was fine for what it was. It was a decent comedy, but it was never that great. I just don't get what the point was for waiting 15 years to make a sequel.

Zoolander has a weird tone where it's making fun of itself, and was itself..if that makes sense. Like I wish it was a smarter, dumb movie if that makes sense.

Like Rick and Morty might seem silly to seem, but the humor and overall plot is sophisticated, and layered.

Saw this today for some reason. It was rubbish.

From the sounds of it, Benedict Cumberbatch's cameo is the best thing about this movie.

Bit gutted this isn't very good, loved the first movie and was hoping this would be good. Thankfully Deadpool makes up for it.

That's disappointing to read. I loved the first movie too. So who are the character/s that played it straight like how Matilda did in the first one?

No one will think this movie is good and until they replay it 10 million times on cable and people will endear to it like the last one.
