Zoolander 2 Is Coming

Social Justice Warriors at it again. Sometimes I wish a movie would come along that makes fun of literally every single race, religion and sexual orientation on Earth just to see them foam at the mouth.

That's what South Park does.

I really can't stand this ****. You would think that a group of people that as progressive and forward-thinking as the trans community supposedly is would be able to take a ****ing joke.

It's a spoof. Were airplane pilots offended by the movie Airplane? Did cops boycott the release of The Naked Gun? Were black people outraged by the over-the-top, stereotypical portrayal of a black man in Scary Movie? Should male models and hetereosexual/metrosexual men by offended by the cartoonish portrayals in Zoolander?

With transgender culture having officially become "mainstream" and more widely accepted than ever, I would think they would be happy that they are "in on the joke" and included in the pop culture comedy spectrum. But of course, no. Instead, they equate it to using blackface and any comedy that pokes fun at a trans-person is off limits, I guess.

The main problem with people taking offense with everything is eventually no one will want to touch the subject matter...in this case trans-people and then they complain that there aren't enough depictions of trans-people in media.

I mean everyone is portrayed in an over the top way. I thought it was more a mockery of the modelling world than anything else.

well when you are actively looking to be offended then you'll swing at anything

Exactly. It's also a horrible way to live and an even worse way to raise children by teaching them to take offense to every little thing.

Instead of having thick skin, learning to take a joke, or being able to laugh at yourself and something that relates to you in some way, "the new normal" is to boycott or protest every little thing that could possibly even be construed as being remotely offensive to some people. People don't even know why they're upset, but they just hop on the bandwagon. It goes way beyond the Zoolander trans thing. There are a million examples of this in today's society, and this new wave of faux outrage is one of the reasons so many comedians are refusing to perform at college campuses.

There's a difference between political correctness in every day life (being polite and respectful to people around you) and using it as an excuse to dilute and censor entertainment.

It's just funny to me that they compare it to blackface, which Ben Stiller also did and to great success.

Everybody wants to be the new black people.

Did they even identify Cumberbatch's character as trans in the trailer? Because there are plenty of androgynous male models that could easily pass as women without actually being trans. I had just assumed that's what they were playing off of.

But don't let me stand in the way of the outrage we all knew was coming. :o

Nothing will come of the boycott. The joke will stay, a few people won't see the movie, and there's a lot of extra publicity for the movie.

I thought that joke was funny, Cumberbatch is the perfect person for it too.

Same. I thought he was supposed to be an androgynous male model too. There's nothing in the trailer that hints at him being trans .

SJWs are boycotting the film over imagined offenses? Who would have thought?

I am deeply offended by the idiots taking offence at this :o

This is all so stupid on so many levels...

I hate the whining about SJWs and PC and all that, because some of the s*** that gets called out needs to be called out, but these groups need to learn to pick their battles. Just because something rubs you the wrong way doesn't mean it's actually harmful. Like I said before, we don't even know that the character is trans from what the trailer shows...

I think both sides are getting out of hand:

Gamergate is filled with racists and sexists who are want to ignore stuff.

Then SJW are overly sensitive, attacking almost everything in sight. You gotta choose your battles (like what Sawyer said) because it's so unhealthy to go on witchhunts constantly.

The bottom line is that, with comedy, it's hard to be PC because it's such a form of pure expressionism. It's an art form, and with any art, somethings can be bad, somethings can be good. That includes stand-up. All of the stand-ups out there have said unPC things, from Amy Shummer to Aziz Asari.

It's about being reasonable and have the ability to listen, but both sides have those issues. With ZL2, Stiler is attacking everyone. In fact, every model is an idiot of some kind in the first film. So there you go. Derek is not suppose to be a flattering representation of a model, so this is fair game with Cumberbatch's character.

Basically the rule of thumb for a lot of people in society is that it's ok to make fun of the **** you actually are not a fan of or part of.

These SJWs have become a parody of themselves at this point. It's like they're getting more and more desperate to stay relevant since society is starting to push back against their BS.

But they're coming up against the law of diminishing returns; no matter how much they cry about how something "triggered" them, people still flock to see/listen/play it.

Just look at the top 10 highest grossing films this year: they all managed to be successful despite these people railing against them in some form or another.

What these people fail to realize is that entertainment by it's very nature is politically incorrect, always has been. Like Octoberist said, it's a form of pure expression and thus contains a mix of bad and good.

If only these people would put half as much effort into combating real bigotry and injustices in say, third world countries in Africa and the Middle East instead of trying to censor art because it offends them.

The age of the **** is coming to an end.

Have you seen the news lately? SJWs have started attacking education, forcing universities to fire professors, ban books, shut down lectures and close courses. It is NOT coming to an end. It's getting worse.

Now that you mention that you're right. It's just that for a bit there it seemed to be dying down.

It's satire though I guess when they were busy learning how to be offended they forgot to sit in on the lecture of the definition.

Purpose and intent are just meaningless excuses to them. Logic is tossed out the window when you (for a real example) have a yoga class closed because it is insensitive and cultural appropriation, or in this case, claim a movie is anti-trans for a character that isn't transsexual. All that matters is their twisted view of reality.

Kinda reminds me of how some people were upset that Jared Leto played a transgender character in Dallas Buyers Club, simply because he's not transgender in real life.
