If they try to release Deadpool with a PG 13 rating most of the best stuff would have to go and it would be pointless really. He could feature in other people's films and be slightly toned down and I think that would work but in his own film it has to be balls to the wall or bust. I thought there was talk of creating a separate label to release Deadpool under so it was clear to parents that this was not your typical Marvel film for parents to take their kids to. If not I think they'd be better off getting someone else to do Deadpool and have him outside of the MCU even if he still makes jokes about them all the time. I'd miss X-Force outside the MCU though if that happened.

They may just leave him under the Fox banner. I'm not sure how much Feige would want another studio creation disrupting the MCU anyway. I'm sure there would be a cameo or two, but I think his main passion is rebooting the FF and of course the X-Men into the MCU proper. DP will exist in his own separate pocket realm with the ability to crossover if desired, possibly for another big event film.

I mean who knows. They might release an R-rated version of Deadpool (although I am not nearly as confident as some fans). I just mean they'd tone down sexual jokes, and remove openly gay characters, because they'd want it to play in China. They could still make an R-rated Deadpool movie that played just soft enough to get a Chinese release.

At the end of the day, Disney doesn't leave money on the table.

All this Disney talk is pretty depressing. :csad:

Yeah Im not too sure how hard core MCU fans would take to DP appearing in an Avengers film anyway. His schtick might not go down so well being that its a little at odds with the "generally" more serious tone. I just dont know.

Hopefully DP can get the third movie it deserves at least and can round out a really good, alternative, trilogy that would be better than nothing. X-Force would be something great but if at least the characters of 2 came back for one more film that would be an X-Force film of sorts even if DP centered.

Pretty much this. They would already have plenty of properties to relaunch as part of the mcu proper. Why replace one of those with a toned-down Deadpool? That doesn’t make you any more money it just swaps one property for another. Leave DP on his own making money in an R rated marketplace in which they don’t play, it’s additional coin on top of what they would do anyhow. Maybe a few years down the road when Reynolds gets tired of the gig, you reboot it into the main mcu. But there’s no rush.

I mean the goal is to start shooting X-Force next year. I hope they can do it before the deal is finalized, because that means Disney is stuck with it. I again think Disney is serious about releasing R-rated Deadpool movies, because they have proven to make money.

But I am speculating they'd still find in that context a way to put parameters on it, so as to ensure, unlike the first two Deadpools, X-Force or DP3, or whatever, gets released in China. Which is a shame to me, because it would mean the movies losing some of their bite. I don't think Disney though will have any interest in continuing Logan's story in James Mangold's X-23 movie, which is also a real shame.

Actual domestic from @ERCboxoffice:

Fox's DEADPOOL 2 is the #1 flick in all the land: $125,507,153--right on target with estimates.

This is honestly what I'm most concerned about. Iger made it clear they're willing to leave Deadpool rated R, but after taking a huge step forward with Yukio & TNW, I'm worried the deal could roll back that progress to appease China's homophobic censor board.

It's utterly pathetic the way Disney tries to talk up their support for the LGBT community and then sells them out for Chinese box office dollars. They deserve to be called out more for this, it's about as hypocritical as it gets.

All due respect to the lbgt community but having a gay couple in a film like this isn't a make or break or even necessary so yeah I get why disney would choose the Chinese dollars.

The film doesn’t even make a big deal about it. Another studio trying to make itself look good would have made noise about it. Deadpool just treats it as nothing out of the ordinary.

I think people might be scared to say it but ill say it, these estimates if they hold are bit disappointing, I understand the first one came out of nowhere and suprised everyone but it also had little to no competition, DP2 will have very little room in the coming weeks. Typically you want your sequels to do better and ofcourse its still might. Im not saying anything against the movie but so far its performing just like the first one I thought with all the hype it would be doing better.

Not surprised. Between Avengers and the film not being better than the first one, I didn't think it would outgross the first one.

I already replied with regards to this topic but I'll do it again anyway -

DP2 isn't getting released in China at the time of writing this post. Fox tried a different cut/version but it didn't get approval.

Reynolds said during Graham Norton's talk show and I quote ''I think it's certificate 15 in the UK and in China, it is actually rated GO F**K YOURSELF''.

Damn, no China again.

Gotta love this poll lol... "Will it outgross DP?".

A: "Yes..."
B: "Yes..."
C: "Yes..."

It should have been all nos, as D2 would be lucky to outgross Dp2, in my opinion. Unless it has really good legs internationally. But is facing Hans Solo this week and those other summer movies neXt month.

OS actuals are also in. Worldwide opening just over $300M. Totals after Sunday:

Domestic: $125,507,153
+ Foreign: $174,879,204
= Worldwide: $300,386,357

Can’t complain about that opening. Worth noting on the OS front it still has a couple bigger markets (Japan and Mexico) to come, as well as Hong Kong and Vietnam. Those combined for about $46 million total run the first time out. Might not get past D1 domestically but I like its chances overseas, Solo or no.

Yeah, despite it's release date this will do massive business and likely top the first WW. DP's hardcore's are harder then most. The younger millennials absolutely love Wade

Thanks for the info SomeOldGuy.

DP's OS OW multiplier is close to 2.69x. Let's assume the drop in multi is around 10%. So the multi for DP2 will be 2.42x. So (174.9X2.42) = 423.4M. 450m+ seems locked after adding the remaining 4 markets. But the important question is how much (or to which extent) will Solo, JW:FK (comes out a week before WC18 in many OS countries) and Football World Cup 2018 affect the legs of DP2?? The road ahead is not easy for DP2, so 2.42x off OS OW might not be feasible. But in any case DP2 is in a very good position to beat the 420m+ OS of the first one.

Damn, no China again.

Personally, I have no end to respect for Reynolds and company for being willing to stand up to the China censors. Whether they have higher ethical standards than most of Hollywood or just don't care, it's impressive. Wish more would follow suit.

Plus, in Cain Marko's eyes they're a bunch of commie mother****ers.

Rth over at BOT is saying $11.5-11.8 for Monday, which would be a very good hold (likely due to it being Victoria Day in Canada).

Biggest opening weekend for a rated R movie in Vietnam with around $2 mil!

In hindsight, the holidays boosted the OW for the 1st one to a much bigger extent than what I thought it did. VD falling on Sunday and President's Day falling on Monday helped the OW to a huge extent. The matinees on Saturday for a 132.4m OW must have have been extremely strong so releasing on Valentine's weekend played a big part in that plus there was more scope for walk-up business during that entire weekend. So a normal 3 day OW for DP might have been closer to (118-120)m or so. Which would be down around 10.5% from the heavily inflated OW. I don't think that's unreasonable. DP2 basically played like a front-loaded sequel to an 'R' rated comedy. DP opened to huge numbers already so there was perhaps limited scope for improvement. MCU sequels increases a good deal on OW from the 1st ones due to having a much wider and broader family appeal (4 quad tentpoles) which DP2 doesn't have going for it. So DP2 did well for the kind of movie it is.

It has already opened in both Mexico and Vietnam. Still yet to open in Japan and Hong Kong though.

Didn'tr Feige already say that Deadpool would remain R-rated when he becomes a Disney property?

Monday actual from the-numbers.com:

$12,007,149 (-62%)
Domestic total $137,514,302

That’s a really good hold. Too early to say DP2 has good legs but she showed us a nice ankle flash Monday.
