Iger can say they could still make them but when it actually comes to doing it yeah there will be a list of catches going on behind the scenes.

Ryan generally seems nervous about the idea of Disney getting Deadpool and i think thats more because he knows even if they asked him to still play Deadpool there will be more restrictions with Disney.

I think Ryan much prefers to be with FOX since he has more freedom with his playground and it seems he also enjoys playfully mocking the MCU in deadpooling their marketing.

I'm sure as far as he is concerned, things are going fine for Deadpool under Fox and any change is a risk to that. Although even if he moved to the MCU I think you'd still have MCU jokes. I guess certain more personal things might be off limits.

If by “this weekend” you’re including Memorial Day I’d say it’s possible. It will need something like $120 million WW over the four-day. Not sure about Japan, imdb didn’t have a date, just “June” last I checked. But other than that it should be everywhere.

Looks like about $8 million on Wednesday per Forbes.

Some context from Mendelson:

I think it will end up somewhere beteeen 330 million domestically

I think problems could arise if/when Disney launches its own MCU X-Men. I can't imagine them allowing Deadpool to continue with all the X-Men references. They won't have two versions of Colossus, Juggernaut and the X-Men we saw in the mansion.

Deadpool isn't going to sit very well in the MCU if it has all that X-Men stuff going on.

Either the people at Fox think 'to hell with it' and are using all their characters while they can, or they are hoping the X-Men will somehow continue within the Deadpool films after the transfer to Disney.

The X-Men, I am sure will be rebooted (actors/story/vision), and Marvel Studio will probably have Deadpool stop with all the X-Men stuff & focus on his own storys and villains. If Disney buying Fox goes through.
Not everybody goes to see movies the first week they comes out. I am sure people who want to see Deadpool 2 that have not seen it yet will go this week. For others it depends if this movie has good word of mouth.

$6.75 million Thursday per deadline. So just a touch under 165 headed into the weekend.

Boxoffice.com projects $66 million for the four-day weekend.

I think it will end at some point and possibly in the neXt five years. Deadpool and the X-Force would be in their own island especially once the X-Men are introduced in the Mcu. Like how many Deadpool solos would Disney allow Fox to release to? 2/3 of his trilogy is done, I doubt we are getting a Deadpool 4 and I can't see X-Force going beyond the trilogy model. Deadpool 2 isn't ooutgrossing Deadpool 1 and X-Force isn't being hyped as the neXt Avengers. I think Deadpool have already peaked with his first movie and without cross overs with the other Marvel characters, it would be harder for Fox to continue to roll out more films after a Deadpool/X-Force trilogy.

Estimates from deadline are disappointing:

$11.6M (-78%) Friday
$41.2M (-67%) three-day
$52M four-day
$216.7M running total

Basically did quite well through last Tuesday and has fallen off a cliff since. I’d say 300 domestic is dead now.

Deadpool 2 grossed an estimated $12.1M on Friday. 8-Day total stands at $176.81M.

So it does look like changing the release date has backfired, it will be lucky to get too 300m ouch.

You should always have at least a couple of weeks before a big film is breathing down your back.

It was obvious that it wasn't gonna have legs that Deadpool 1 had, Xpecially in the summer. But still, the second weekend drop looks bad!

I think because it just feels like more of the same, except more of it. I left the theater thinking it was fine but if someone asked me if it was worth checking out in the theaters I would have said no.

Firefist took away from the more interesting characters for me.

Disappointing, but I expected DP2 to have its legs taken out from under it with a Star Wars movie opening the very next week.

Still I'm not worried about X-Force or DP3 not happening. Its already out grossed its budget. The only thing that could stop one of them from happening is Disney when the buy out goes through.

The thing is Solo isn't even overperforming.

Regardless, I think they cannibalized each other. if either had the weekend to itself at least PART of those millions would have went to the other movie.

Deadpool should have found another niche weekend without competition. It was never summer blockbuster material. It definitely got to big for its britches.

This movie aint making 300 million.. let alone 330.

Yeah even with the opening weekend, it was already questionable if it would cross the three hundred million mark. The opening day was too front loaded.

It's still doing well all things considered. It's just not as novel as the original.

The issue is here is the lack of growth. Sure it still got a lot of money but they also put more money into this. So ideally, there should be seeing growth in box office numbers as well.

X2, Gotg 2, The Dark World, Winter Soldier, The Dark Knight these are sequels that have showcased growth at the box office and some took the franchise to another level. While Age of Ultron/Iron Man 2 didn't outgross their predecessor in North America, but the international numbers showcased growth and the threequel out grossed both of its predecessors. Right now, I don't see Deadpool 3 having a spike at the box office the way, Avengers3/Iron Man 3 had. X-Force isn't being hyped as the neXt big cross over especially we kinda had a X-Force in Deadpool 2. This is not even comparable to the Spider-Man trilogy as the third one was its peak in international market. The box office numbers of Deadpool right now is a sign that Deadpool probably peaked at the box office and that's simply not good to hear.

Thats what i mentioned previously. They took the risk...and it didn't pay off. Hopefully they learn from this and release DP3 or X-force in less crowded months (ie......Feb, Mar, Aug, Sep).

The other thing is that IW was so well received by practically the whole cinema going world. And then fox asks these fans to come out again in big numbers for another superhero movie 3 weeks later ??????? well this is the answer they get.

Disney is also a culprit here because they screwed up with something that worked (not releasing solo over christmas period like they did with lots of success previously) and it looks like solo will gross lesser than DP2 with china. Haha.

In a way....i think DP2 is doing well for a superhero movie opening 3 weeks after IW. Solo opened 5 months after TLJ and it still made less.

I really hope china picks up DP2. Its a fun movie and should do well there (>100M). This should then put DP2 over $800M which is pretty good as Thor & Spidey are in this ballpark.

Ideally, and you can cite all those examples for comic book movies. However, you can also cite similar examples for lack of growth for sequels as well. For a lot of sequels there's a stigma that the sequel isn't as good as the original.

IMHO, Deadpool 2 was solid, but not as solid or fresh or tight as the original. I think many probably agree.

In 2016, Deadpool was a cutting-edge movie for the genre unlike anything we've really seen before. It was refreshing and different. In 2018, that's no longer the case.

You can look at other R-rated comic book franchises that were well received, like Kingsman, that didn't have growth either. Kingsman was very well received. The sequel was not as well received and made less money domestically and worldwide.

While a slow decline in box office is common domestically overseas often the opposite is true as people love big franchises, so I'd bet that with the more established brand Deadpool 2 will easily beat part 1 in overall box office. As mentioned above the first one didn't even get a proper release in China which is now a massive market. I think 900mil is still quite possible for the overall take.
