Animation ‘Lord of the Rings’ Anime Movie 'The War of Rohirrim' From New Line, Warner Bros. Animation

I know this post is a few years old, but I have to completely agree and add my bafflement as to why they turned Sam into a blithering idiot.

And I would have been REALLY curious to see how they would have handled things if Bakshi had been able to make Part 2, because there is no way that his Sam could have pulled off some of the dark, dramatic things that Book Sam has to do in the later parts of the story.
I agree, a lot of what the Bakshi movie did was head-tilting. Calling Saurman "Aramin" partway through the movie (studio meddling, I know, but still), shunting Legolas, Gimli, Merry and Pippin off to the side, giving the Balrog butterfly wings, the hard-to-make-out fight scenes (rotoscoping the orcs and Ringwraiths was a mistake).....

Animation? How plebian.

I'm thinking that a trailer will be out within the next month so it'll be attached to either Horizon or (more likely) Twisters.

I don't see this doing very well, and Warner Bros. Discovery hasn't been marketing it at all. It's supposed to be out in four months.

I don't think anyone is expecting this to be a massive hit, not even WB. Frankly I'm just happy to see this get a theatrical release at all.

Something like this would make sense if we were still making theatrical Pokemon, Digimon, and Yugioh movies.

In any case it should at least make its money back. I can't imagine the budget on this being anything too insane, even with the Lord of the Rings IP.

It'll do fine. Godzilla and Miyazaki did GANGBUSTERS here in the US last year and anime movies are in big demand thanks to that and SpyXFamily, so.....

No one is going to want to watch a two-and-a-half-hour anime LOTR movie in theaters. Godzilla and Miyazaki don't really compare to this situation. The Spy X Family movie was also under two hours and is taken from a popular manga and anime series.

We literally had a nearly 2.5 hour animated Spider-Man movie last year that made buckets of money.

Still. Plus, we don't have a trailer yet. Chill and stop trying to pooh-pooh this.

Exactly. We don't have a trailer yet. For a two and a half hour animated Lord of the Rings movie that's out in less than four months. And it comes out a week before Sonic 3.
