⚽ Football (Soccer)

3 big matches from the big 3 leagues this weekend

Milan vs Napoli (Serie A)

Newcastle vs Arsenal (EPL)

Atlético Madrid vs Real Madrid (La Liga)

I feel like United are the plane in Die Hard 2, just circling above Dulles airport, Amorim is Holly, hoping 'Ol Jimmy has his vest on and is crawling through some vents. Truth is I think we'll crash, I've never seen a manager who is so tactically inflexible, it's not just about the system, it's that he refuses to make tweaks in-game when we're clearly getting outplayed.

The thing that I don't get with how we play is obviously everyone can see we are short in midfield as having 2 CMs against most teams having 3 CM is one man short. But the thing with any system/formation is that you're trading something for something else. So in theory us having 1 player less in midfield should be compensated for by having an extra player somewhere else - and that on its own should mean another team looks at us and goes "they have an extra man in position X, we need to care for that".

But it's just not showing in our games. It's like we're light in all parts of the team.

Bayer Leverkusen displayed this system at it's best a couple of seasons ago, we don't have the athletic CB's or the quality in midfield to make it work, and the attacking compensation in the system comes from the wingbacks, but again we simply don't have quality in those positions. Even with the signings it would be easier for any manager to mold this squad into a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 than it is to get it working in the 3-4-3.

Hello lads, been a minute huh?

Hey man, good to see you back! 👍

Rakuten and Abema are now streaming both Serie A and La Liga here in Japan, besides the Champions League and EPL...yesterday just watched Lazio vs Roma for Serie A and Madrid vs Espanyol for La Liga...
both streamed on a friendly time here, on 7 PM sunday night for Lazio-Roma match and 10PM saturday night for Madrid match 😁

I think I will follow both leagues more often now, since 2 of my fav foreign teams are Madrid & Inter 😃

Who's the player in your avvy?

2-1 Sekso finally gets his first goal at the third attempt. Goal crazy first half and boy did we need it.

Thanks 👍 is he a player you think will make a bigger move?

For sure..his work ethic is truly inspiring. It's amazing to see such passion and intelligence on the field!
His achievements currently are the highest scoring Japanese player in UEFA Champions League (with 5 goals) and also the highest scoring Japanese in Ligue 1 (with 18 goals)😀

Btw, he has also won the PL title with Liverpool in 19/20 (the first Japanese to win the PL championship before Endo Wataru (our Samurai Blue captain!) last season), but unfortunately he couldn't break into the first team, it's a big downer of course, so I am happy he is working on himself now in Ligue 1.

VAR must have looked at the foul that led to the penalty which Fernandes subsequently missed & thought, yes it's a foul, yes it's a goalscoring opportunity however Manchester United had a red card against them last week, therefore it's not a red card today as we can't have 2 red cards in 2 weeks against them.

Anndd it went 3-1 as I typed that..

Very cool, very enjoyable league this is.
Take 5+ minutes & 50 different camera angles just to get yet another decision that impacts us negatively wrong, keeps Brentford in the game regardless of whether the penalty goes in or not.

Reminds me of the wrongful decision to give West Ham a penalty that ultimately cost ten Hag his job.

Can't wait to hear the former referees on TV & the PGMOL come out to say that the decision not to red card Collins was fine, regular as clockwork.

Btw, he has also won the PL title with Liverpool in 19/20 (the first Japanese to win the PL championship before Endo Wataru (our Samurai Blue captain!) last season), but unfortunately he couldn't break into the first team, it's a big downer of course, so I am happy he is working on himself now in Ligue 1.

correction: he's not the first, apparently...😄
After digging up, the first two Japanese players to win the EPL are Kagawa Shinji (with Manchester United in 12/13) and Okazaki Shinji (with Leicester City in 15/16).
I apologize 🙏 haha
So, 4 Japanese players have won the PL title 😀 (2 of them have done it with Liverpool)

Btw @Hunter Rider love your Io Shirai avvy.
Not quite following the pro wres, but I know some of the biggest names, Tanahashi, Okada and Shirai are among them 😁

Couldn't watch the game but I think I said it before that I was worried about it. We have Sunderland next and I don't see us beating them because similar to Brentford they will work hard and fight for every ball, and sadly Xhaka is better than our midfielders.

That defeat for us (Liverpool), was a long time coming, inevitable really.

Palace are fast becoming our bogey team.

We need to wake up PDQ.

Arsenal came from behind to beat Newcastle at home in a feisty game 2-1, move up to second in the table and a couple points behind Liverpool, so took advantage this week at least of a slip.
