⚾ The MLB Thread

I'm feeling hopeful that the Cubs avoid a sweep today by defeating the Phillies by executing critical plays needed to score more runs, also for 1 day the Phillies don't get the great hits needed to defeat the Cubs.
The Cubs didn't close in a game that they had a realistic chance of winning in the second game so this isn't me just being a rose-colored glasses Cubs fan.

While the White Sox did have a great performance to defeat the Guardians on July 3rd. Although, most likely White Sox fans aren't going to overreact that the White Sox are going to have an incredible turnaround based off 1 great performance in July that happened after they lost more than 49 games in the 1st Half of the regular season before the All-Star Break.

Bo Jackson might be the best athlete I've ever seen in pro sports. The Raiders had a guy named Napoleon Kaufmann who could just FLY. They asked Tim Brown how fast Kaufmann was and he said "he's really, really fast". Then they asked him if he was as fast as Bo Jackson and Timmy looked at the reporter, rolled his eyes, and said "Nah, man...he ain't THAT fast". When he was playing baseball, Will Clark took a throw to 1st base up the line when Jackson was at bat and got absolutely destroyed. Clark later said he was seeing stars when he got up and he'd rather take his chances with a freight train than with Bo.

I'm very happy the Cubs outplayed the Phillies in a game where the Cubs outhit the Phillies 12-6, and the Cubs demolished the Phillies 10-2. While the Phillies did have the advantage of the lead, it wasn't something the Phillies could hold on to. The Cubs have had a long slump of terrible baseball without consistent winning so I'm not going to overreact that the Cubs have ended the slump after 1 excellent win in July.
Mostly everything went right for the Cubs to finally get the better of the Phillies after 2 consecutive very disappointing outcomes.

Hit the panic button Yankees fans because the Yankees are an MLB worse 4-13 since June 15, and they've lost 7 of their last 8 home games during this slump of awful baseball.
Also, the Reds did sweep the Yankees in New York City so it's looking very hopeless for the Yankees even with more than 40 regular season games left.

The Orioles have won 6 of their last 7 games, and it seems unlikely that the Orioles would have a long slump of terrible baseball with the Yankees able to have a great turnaround to regain first place.

If it's not limited to today the Mariners have an excellent celebration for home runs for home games since I saw fireworks used, also devices that make thundering noise by releasing steam.

I didn't see the game, but it sounds like the Phillies lost because they couldn't hold on to the lead they had in the game.

I'm excited for today because the Cubs have an opportunity to sweep the Orioles tonight, and they have the momentum of because they've won 5 of their last 6 games.
I'll be watching that game and other MLB games at Old Chicago.

While the Yankees did defeat the Rays last night 2-1 except it would be ridiculous to overreact the slump is over. The Yankees have lost 16 of their last 21 games.

Baseball is a funny game. Virtually everyone goes through streaks (good and bad) during a 162 game season. That being said, I'm not gonna argue with you after you said the Astros and Mets had a good chance of getting to .500 by the end of June. One did and one just missed. :funny:

I really don't mind being wrong about that detail because it continues to be a very entertaining 2024 MLB season with teams finding long-term success after long slumps, surprise teams, an entertaining awful team that is the White Sox, and the Yankees continuing to find ways to remain in a long slump since June 15.

It was meant as a compliment.....them both being at .500 was a bad bet, but a compliment. If they hadn't played each other the last 3 games, you probably would have been right on both counts.

July continues to be a great month for the Cubs that for the second consecutive Night shut out the Orioles.
Wow, I feel excellent that the Cubs swept the Orioles who are a winning team.

The Cubs have shown signs of a turnaround because they've won 6 of their last 7 games. While the Cubs haven't gotten above 500, they are showing signs of a possible turnaround after the long slump.

The Pirates' excellent Rookie Pitcher Skenes continues to show he's a Ferrari with a top-notch performance vs the Brewers, hasn't lost a single game. Also, it isn't a surprise the Brewers fans would be giving him cheers when he left the game because they can appreciate greatness even if the player doesn't play for the Brew Crew.

The Yankees found a new way to choke last night vs the Rays, and since the Rays player held the baseball for more than 2 seconds so it's not unbelievable it would be ruled a catch even though he did release the Baseball.
It was priceless that Rays relief pitcher Pete Fairbanks brought up in the Postgame interview that the Rays player caught the baseball unlike Cowboys WR Bryant that it wasn't a catch vs the Packers in that unforgettable NFC Championship game in Green Bay. It's not surprising he would bring that up because he is a Packers fan.

People can state their overreactions after the first half of the 2024 MLB regular season.
It's not an overreaction if White Sox fans expect that the White Sox won't win above 60 games since they're as abysmal as the Bad News Bears and possibly in ways worse than the 1962 Mets for inteptiude.

Yankees fans are hoping that the struggling Yankees can regroup to get out of the slump that they've had since June 15th.

I'm very happy as a Cubs fan that the Cubs have shown resiliency since they've shown July to be a mostly prosperous Month. While the Cubs remain in the Hunt area for a Wild Card, it's now looking realistic that they can get a Wild Card spot, and get above 500.

Gunnar Henderson stood out as being unique because of his impressive Scooby Doo impression, and because for the home run derby he had a custom Scooby Doo-themed baseball bat.

It looks very favorable for the Mets to make the Playoffs if they can continue winning weeks.
The Mets played like it was the home run derby when they bulldozed the Yankees.
Yankees fans can continue to use the panic button because the Yankees haven't gotten out of the Ground Hog's style slump.

The Rockies had their feel-amazing win since they bulldozed the Red Sox. It's their high-bar highlight in what has been an awful season.

The Cubs won 3 of 4 games vs the Cardinals which makes me very happy. As a result, the Cubs have a realistic chance of getting to 500 or above this week.
The challenge for the Cardinals this week is to remain above 500 because they are 2 games above 500 to begin this week.

Also, the White Sox continue to be the glorious dumpster fire since they've lost an impressive 20 consecutive games after they lost to a good Twins team 13-7. They have become the Wile E Coyote of MLB that finds new ways to choke, fail, and embarrass themselves.
The White Sox have more than 20 regular season games left except it's still looking most likely the 2024 White Sox will outdo the 1962 Mets for ineptitude by failing to win more than 40 games.

White Sox fans can decrease their relentless misery by drinking alcohol during this abysmal season, being very entertained since they are watching an unforgettable abysmal team, and eating delicious deep dish pizza while watching the glorious dumpster fire that is the 2024 White Sox.

So, since the word is being more commonly used, Dodger fans are "weird". The team has had a lot of injuries, which is tough for any team. Their lead is down to 4 games and many of the fans are freaking out. All of that being said, the team has the best record in the major leagues and they are getting a lot of their injured players back.

I don't get some people....it's a long season in baseball.

The White Sox have become the fastest team to lose 100 games. Also, the White Sox losing over 121 games looks very likely.

The Cubs have a realistic chance of getting above 500 this week.

The Cubs bulldozed the Pirates 18-8 in a game where the Cubs scored 8 runs in the 6th inning. Also, they stole 8 bases which hadn't been done in more than 100 years.

It's looking favorable that the Yankees can make the playoffs if they sustain winning consistency after a challenging long slump.
Also, it isn't a surprise the Tigers roared victorious to defeat the abysmal White Sox. Most likely the White Sox will have lost 102 games before August ends unless they play great for the remaining days of August.
