🏈 NFL - Game On

I dont buy it cause I have watched a lot of Baker's games. He even on a good day make usually 1-2 bad reads a game that are nowhere near a WR and either hit the DB in the hands or come close. In 2020, those passes were largely being dropped. 2021, less lucky. I am sure the injuries didn't help, but he had those same bad tendencies since his rookie year. 4th year QBs have to stop making boneheaded decisions every game like that. Unless you are someone like Brett Favre, and Brett Favre Baker Mayfield is not

In my defense, I "did" say his "only" upside is that he was injured last year. LOL.

Just waiting on the Raiders to make a move... lol.

Carr for Mayfield? LOL

That money

Man, I like the deal the Browns got on Cooper a LOT better. The Jags, IMO, are being the Jags. I'd be using that money to address the O line and go after one of the speed receivers with my second pick in the draft.

Bills sign Rodger Saffold (G) and release Daryl Williams (OT). Saffold is a guy that a team like the Jags or Raiders could have used and so is Williams. There's one (or 2) of those about 10M guys the Jags should have signed instead of overpaying for a WR.

Oh boy.....the Chargers just plugged a big hole.....they are going to cause people some real problems next year. I see them going for a big run stuffer (my guess has been Jordan Davis for awhile now, but after the combine he "may" be gone by the time their number is called) in round 1. They don't look like a team with a lot of holes at this point and, while my opinion may be the minority one, I slightly prefer Herbert to Joe Burrow; who has a more dangerous receiving corp. Don't get me wrong, Williams and Allen are amongst the best duo in the league; I would just give the edge to the Bengals in that department.

If they can play halfway decent defense, they are going to be murder.

Source: Jackson to Chargers for 5 years, $82.5M

The Pats cannot be happy about this and I think I can see a crease in the brow of @Ninjablade from southern California. :cwink:

EDIT: Cap hit for 2022 is only 8M. Leaving the Chargers about 4.5M in cap space after acquiring Mack and Jackson. They will likely release Bryan Bulaga; saving them another 10M in cap space. I can't believe NE didn't want to, at least, match that contract.

I got a lot of mixed thoughts on the whole JC Jackson situation.

Good for JC. Got what he wanted. Money and the years is good, and the Chargers are a good team. With that division, they're doing what they have to do. Make use of the elite QB on rookie contract and surround him with a really good team. I love Herbert. I think he's an absolute stud. Not sure if Ive ever said it here, but of all the young guys in the league, he's the one I'd choose to build my team around. Kid continues to impress me. That team is going to be a force and if the coach can figure out how to read the game and not the analytics, they have the potential to win.

I'm not gonna lament the loss of JC. I think he's good, but not at the number he wanted. His stats are a bit misleading. He's not a true number one corner. I imagine the Pats feels the same way. I will lament the fact the Pats let him walk out the door and didn't get anything in return. You're telling me they couldn't have used the franchise tag and figured out a deal to send him to the Chargers? The money is almost the same. It's not like we have a replacement in place. Our secondary is barren as of now. Just another player out the door and Bill not really having a plan as to how to fill the hole on the team. It's been a growing trend with this team for the last few years.

This sucks because it's just another team that's so far beyond them, and it frustrates me that they're not doing what the Chargers are doing. They have a rookie contract. Maximize it. You need playmakers, but they're just content with these second and third tier guys.

God i hope the steelers don't make T Trubisky good I know I didn't want him but NOT THE STEELERS

I haven't followed him that closely and will take your word for it. That being said, he still seems to be on an upward trajectory and is a young guy. With a guy in his mid 20s, that trend usually continues. In any case, it's a clear upgrade for the Chargers and with the acquisition of Mack AND a very decent pick still in the hopper, I could see that defense moving into top 10 territory instead of bottom 10. IF that happens, the Chargers are trouble for anyone. I completely agree with you about Herbert. He made some questionable tries last season, but, man, the dude was only in his second year, never lost a bit of confidence in himself, and came back with some of those "are you Fing kidding me?" kind of throws. Burrow is a terrific, young QB and him and Herbert share a lot of traits, but if I had to take one, I'm going with Herbert. The bottom line is that the Chargers had the cap room and used it to significantly upgrade their defensive backfield. They did it with an 8 and 17M cap hit over the next two years. After that, they can cut him and take a dead cap hit of 15M for one year. From their perspective, this is a terrific move. If he turns into a perennial pro bowler, they've got a good, young backfield. If not, they have a couple of years of taking a cap hit in the mid teens. Not a bad roll of the dice.

What kind of guy is he? Any issues or is he considered a good teammate?

:funny:

The brother of a very close friend of mine that I used to have Raiders season tickets with is a big Steelers fan and I'll never hear the end of it if Mitch comes in and kills it. LOL

Rams keep their O line basically intact by signing OT Noteboom and C Allen. Whitworth is retiring and Noteboom will take his place. He's done a great job filling in when Whitworth was out.

Guys here really like Jackson. Can't recall any kind of story of him being difficult or a bad teammate. Worst thing I can say about him is he has a little bit of a habit of running his mouth, and not delivering. He's a great addition for that team. With Bosa and Mack up front, they'll only need a halfway decent backfield to defend guys. I'll give Stately plenty of crap for his decision making, but I do think he's got a good defensive mind. They just lacked the players this year.

I'm really curious to see the trajectory of this team. I hope they can get out of their own way of shooting themselves in the foot.

Carr for Mayfield? LOL.

Bro, I'm hoping they're going all in for Devante Adams or Watson. They have to have a solid answer for the rest of the division. Although they could just be going into rebuild mode now. Carr still hasn't gotten an extension, so I'm wondering what's going on with that too. Maybe a trade... Colts, Saints, Panthers... a few teams still needs a decent QB lol.

Malik Willis & Matt Corral are the only two QBs entering the draft I wouldn't mind them getting. Maybe Kenny Pickett. But we will see how it plays out.

And the beat goes on…..

Chargers expected to sign Rams NT Sebastian Joseph-Day

he’s not a game changer, but he’s a solid interior defensive lineman. I see the Chargers going defensive line and probably interior with their first pick. They are having a hell of an off-season and are looking really really nasty these days.

Edit: After thinking about it, I could see the Chargers going stud LB or OT if the right person is available.

@Spider-Fan any thoughts on this particular player? Is he any good? It's hard for me to say much about Winovich since he barely played here. Not a skill issue, more of a schematic issue of not fitting in. He was a decent pure pass rusher for the few snaps he did get.

Wilson was fine but became less essential for us cause our draft pick LB was amazing

We should not forget the Bengals. They went out and made a huge upgrade exactly where they needed it; at center and right guard. They did it at the expense of the Bucs and Pats. Ted Karras (Pats) will, I suspect, move from LG to C and Alex Cappa (Bucs) will get plugged into RG. Karras seems to play a little better at G, but played C when he was at Miami.

WHOA!!!!! Big deal out of Dallas. DE Randy Gregory, who was expected to re-sign with the Boys, has done an about face and will sign with Denver for 5 years to the tune of 70M. He's a very talented player, but a bit of a risk for Denver. He's been suspended more than once for failing the league's drug policy (ie doing what is completely legal in a lot of states SMH) and has had some injury issues. Big upside for Denver; who is starting to look very, very dangerous. That division is going to be absolute MURDER next year. Outside of maybe the Bills, those could end up being the 4 best teams in the AFC. I wouldn't be completely shocked if they took up all of the wild card slots next year; although the divisional games are going to be among the toughest games they play all year.

Rams OT Andrew Whitworth has officially announced his retirement. Andrew is one of the best guys in the league and I suspect he was waiting to see if Noteboom was re-signed (he was) before retiring. I "think" he would have come back for one more year if he was needed by the Rams. It would be hard to quantify just what a good guy Whitworth is. If you are looking for role models, look no further. He'll be missed in more ways than one. EDIT: Dude allowed 60 sacks in a 16 year career that encompassed over 16,000 snaps. :wow:

He was a long time Bengal before he moved to the Rams and I'm guessing any Cincinnati fans out there basically agree with me (except for maybe being pissed that he left LOL).

Man, the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of the Chargers going against conventional wisdom and going O line in round 1 instead of DT. There's virtually no way that Evans, Ikonwu, or Cross lasts that long ("maybe" Cross, but very, very doubtful), but if someone like Penning were available, you could release Bulaga and save about 10M in cap money. I think Penning would be a long term, and maybe an instant, upgrade. Signing Austin Johnson and Joseph-Day probably gives you what you need on your interior D line and having Slater and Penning bookending their O line and protecting Herbert could set them for the foreseeable future.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a Raider fan and have never "liked" the Chargers, but if I'm them, this is definitely rolling around in my head.

Cap room clearance??? How is their depth on the O line? That's a couple of starters they've lost. Right?

Shaky, at best. Onwenu has swung between guard and tackle during his first two years, but he should be a solid replacement for either Mason or Karras. But other than center, all of the other slots are up in the air. When Belichick let Thuney go to free agency I figured Shaq was going to be with the Pats long term. Oh well. They may have to take a lineman early in the draft.

Man, what are they thinking over there? The Pats were known for having their personnel matters locked up, but, from an outside observer's perspective, it seems like they're slipping. There's a lot of early to mid 1st round interest in OL and they might have some fairly slim pickings at 21 as well as a lot of holes to fill on their line. Plus, they are going to need some WR help. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not overly impressed with their players there. Mac could turn out to be a pretty good QB, but, dayyummmm.....get the guy some help.

I'm honestly not sure if they're going to do anything with the room they cleared, but we'll see. I'm not exactly optimistic.

OL has now become a big need. Karas, Mason, and possibly Trent Brown all gone? That's scary. The OL was already a kind of shaky group because Isaiah Wynn is godawful. Onwenu isn't bad, but everyone else on the roster sucks. It wasn't until like week 7 or 8 that they stopped shuffling guys around because they couldn't find a good match. Some of that was because Trent Brown went down week 1 and they were significantly better when he came back. So, I'm worried. They were Bengals level of bad for a good chunk of last year. Mac Jones at one point was on pace to be sacked more than any QB in a single season in history. I'm worried. It's not like they have a real OL coach either. Stability would've been nice.

Well, this didn't take long to happen.......

Chargers release oft-injured offensive tackle Bulaga - TSN.ca.

Patriots have not even replaced McDaniels and they trading away offensive lineman

Belechick is losing his mind ?
