Film 📽️ THE CINEMA LOUNGE

General Film
I tell ya one thing tho, Chazelle aint sniffin' that kind of budget again. Ever.
I did think the movie was entertaining but I have no idea what he was trying to prove with it. Another love letter to Hollywood to throw on the pile with the rest of them?

Actually, that era of film/hollywood is really interesting-bizarre to look into, so I got it. I knew about some of them stories. Current hollywood parties really cant compare, really. The fatman in the opening was based on a real life death. Most of them actors and directors went the way of disposable sewage with talkies. Them studio owners had back doors/alley ways on the lots for their private meetings with the starlets and so many on site crew deaths. Chazelle just took that premise and made it a heavy cocktail that lasted about 3 hours and it was awful.

There is a doc, which is sadly only available on vhs last time I ran into it. Doc is about interviewing all them stars from that era and how they were living, it took place in the late 70s-early 80s, real tragic for the most part, but oddly fascinating.

Interesting. I always knew Hollywood was a cesspool. To be honest, I only saw up until the opening credits of Babylon and I have been meaning to get back into it but part of me also doesn’t care.

Still can’t see myself watching Babylon, Avatar 2 or Beau is Afraid anytime soon or maybe at all. These 3 hour + behemoths are tiresome.

That's why I watch them at home so I can take snack and pee breaks. Stretch the legs.

Dead Ringers on Amazon

This is just as bizarre, haunting, funny, grotesque/kinda sexy as one would expect. Rachel Weisz is fearless. She's always had this dangerous thing about her in the eyes, like she'd stab you in the back, while sleeping kinda thing, but we accept it.

I did see Avatar 2 and enjoyed it. I need to psych myself up for Babylon. I’m 90% sure I won’t see Beau is Afraid.

I generally don't mind long movies, but I feel like the recent slew of them have just been tedious and needlessly long (haven't seen Beau yet). The only 3-hour behemoth I've seen in the last year that was actually entertaining all the way through was RRR honestly.

FC, how could you...

Just want to say RRR had me smiling from ear to ear every second, and I'm so happy FC talked it up so I knew it was finally available over here. Thanks, FC.

Speaking of long ass movies, what the hell is up with Marvel and these 150 min flicks? I got it with Spider-Man, because you know, the Multiverse. But Wakanda Forever and now GotG is 150mins? These can no longer be fun, breezy experiences. They are investments, without the quality to make it worth the time.

Wakanda Forever was actually at the forefront of my mind when I made my "tedious and needlessly long" comment. Half of that movie had a story to tell. The rest of it was...there.

At first I was annoyed at Chapek's brief "2-hour" mandate for Marvel movies, but idk, maybe that fool was onto something, because they could really use an editor. :o

100% agree. It's like it was so long because they had to make sure all the "Marvel Studios" was still there.

GOTG is over 2.5 hours? The hell.

I guess Feige's solution to a movie being overpacked? Just let it be longer.
