🤛 Official UFC Thread - Part 8

that was definitely a knockout of the year candidate.

This was a fun card and probably UFC's best card this year so far.

Interesting documentary for anyone that don't know, or even those that do, of the dangers of severe weight cuts we see some fighters go through in MMA.

Follows Dean Garnett's weight cut 24 hours before weighing in for a bout with Luiz Tosta in which he needs to cut around 7kg which is roughly 16 pounds in water weight, which is as near as makes no difference 10% of his normal body weight.

My opinion is if you can't get to within 10lbs of the fight weight 24 hours before weighing in through dieting ie meaning you'd have to cut no more than 10lbs through these sorts of methods, then you shouldn't be fighting in that weight class. Even 10lbs is still dangerous & can damage your health long term, but for me this should be the maximum.

I'd like to actually see the likes of the UFC/NSAC bring in such a system in which the week of the fight they weigh you every single day leading up to the official weigh in & you must be within 10lbs of whatever weight you are fighting at. It would put a stop to some of the more severe weight cuts in which some fighters are cutting maybe 20lbs or so 24 hours before the fight.

Cerrone vs Lawler announced for UFC 213 in July.

Also supposedly on the card is Overeem vs Werdum & also is likely to feature Jon Jones fighting the winner of DC & Rumble.

I just saw that headline cowboy vs lawler..gonna be epic
UNTIL ONE OF THEM HAS A TRAINING INJURY AND CANT FIGHT:sly:

What the heck happened with Daniel Cormier? He weighed in at 206.2, missing weight, went away came back about 2 minutes later and was 205 despite having been naked & using towel for first weigh in.

Read on Twitter people saying the 2nd time he weighed in, he rested his arms on the towel that was being held up for him & it could have somehow made the difference there.

The whole thing is very fishy the way it happened IMO.

I'll give Artem Lobev one thing, he's got heart.

Very simple. Book Yoel Romero vs. Michael Bisping or book Robert Whittaker vs. Michael Bisping. Those are your two title fights. GSP isn't fighting until November at the earliest. It's nonsense.

Also forgetting about Mousasi who is arguably even more deserving than Romero. Whittaker IMO should have to fight Rockhold, Weidman or Silva, I know he's on a good run of W's but really the only fighter he's fought & beat that makes me think he's a contender is Jacare.

MW division is stacked, Bisping fighting Henderson & then trying to fight GSP, 2 guys that while are legends aren't/weren't really deserving of MW title shots currently has really clogged the division up.

What's the reasoning for GSP not fighting until November? Is it that re-entry program for USADA?

Can't wait to see Bisping's head removed by Romero.

Whittaker has six straight wins and knocked out Jacare who Romero has a gift decision over.

Yep, I'm well aware of his run, but as I said, Jacare is the only 1 of those 6 fighters he's beaten that was a contender. IMO Mousasi is the No. 1 contender, not Romero.

Cody Garbrandt is one of the worst "Coaches" ever on TUF. I use the word coach loose with him since he still refuses to be in his guy's corner.

Aldo only has himself to blame for his lose last night. His leg kicks are one of the most violent & effective things in his striking game & I don't think I saw him throw 1.

It allowed Max to gradually press forward, grow in confidence & dictate the pace of the fight. I was expecting to see Aldo approach Holloway with a little less respect so the fight would be fought on his terms not Holloway's.

If Holloway can finish Edgar in such fashion, he might tempt Mcgregor into a rematch, though probably not at 145.

So, here's something I've been wondering about:

- YouTube has placed Pro Wrestling on their restricted list, because it's not "family friendly." YouTube shut down live streaming of a pro wrestling event hosted by What Culture. This has gotten me thinking: is the reason nobody from MMA has talked about this is because none of the MMA promotions rely on YouTube as the sole source of income? Same goes for the MMA podcasts and shows on YouTube?

I am curious about the YouTube restrictions as it pertains to MMA companies and MMA shows and MMA podcasts.

Dr. Evil, it's a good question. not sure how the new YouTube restrictions have affected the MMA sphere. I figure that MMA is already sort of keyed into a more adult demographic since it does tend to be quite violent as a combat sport.

I agree. McCarthy was IMHO way too lenient to let it go as long as he did. His cardio for longer fights has always been sort of suspect too, but no one has really exploited it until now, and Holloway never gets tired either.

Aldo has some of the most devastating leg kicks in the game, I was surprised he didn't try more than one. Maybe he just didn't see the openings or opportunities for them. But I mean, Aldo fought Faber, who is a tough scrambler and who has some heavy hands as well, and Faber wasn't able to institute any of that at all against Aldo. His leg was taken apart.

He threw one leg kick and got punched in the face for it. Holloway knew what to expect and Jose is done.

I agree to an extent, I didn't think it was a bad/late stoppage as he was still trying to move & get up, but at the same time he was obviously hurt & was taking a pasting from Holloway in the process which McCarthy probably could have saved Aldo from.

I don't even recall him throwing that one, I did have a few beers though during the event though so that's probably why. :D

Even still though, if he had ate one in the face while trying to throw one, it's still a risk he normally takes. For the fight to go 3, nearly 4 rounds & him give up on his leg kicks after eating one in the face after throwing 1 seems kinda crazy. Would be like Rumble giving up on throwing a right hand at someone because he got countered the first time he threw it.

Meh. Main event sucked. Hunt's a brawler, but he can't become champion with that type of game.
