10.8 - Abandoned - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

I was trying to put my daughter to bed when Clark was tied up. How did he escape?

Used his ice breath to freeze the chains holding a lead fire pit cover, causing the chains to snap due to the extreme cold and in turn stop the kryptonite from affecting him.

O.k. Thanks. The last I saw Lois got imprisoned by Jor-El just like Jonathon was. I saw the chains get cold but didn't know who did it. I was fearful that Jor-El gave Lois powers.

I love how this week Clark uses the power of Super breath to break the chains yet last week he didn't use it to blow out the fire in Lois' apartment after it blew up. So inconsistant with Clarks powers.

That episode was fantastic on so many levels - my really just hate the guy who plays Godfrey... he's a terrible actor.

Maybe he did afterward... either way, what difference would if have made? The Talon had blown up and Lois was out.

Hello everyone!

Long time viewer here, but hardly posting.

Tonight's episode was among the better episodes (Homecoming, Ambush) so far this season.

I find Tess being a Luthor much believable than her being a Checkmate agent. Although I had hoped that Tess was maybe one of the female furies, a de-powered one, that Granny Goodness wants back -- hence is the reason why Waller knew about Apokolips coming.

The show has always been great when it deals with the mythology. I enjoyed the scene of Jor-el and Lara, but how could the writers forget about the episode Memoria in which Lara was worried, during Krypton's last seconds, that no one would love Clark? The writers for the most part have done a great job paying homage to previous seasons, but they missed big on this one.

This further illustrates my point about reconnecting Tess to the Luthors after last season saw her all over the map with no direction. I'm also interested in what she does from this point onwards.

If she turns against Clark and his group, it's most likely from Darkseid and Granny Goodness' doing than Lex himself. She loved her father Lionel in contrast to Lex's relationship with him. What would happen if she finds out about Lex killing their dad, Lionel? :super:

Clark used a lot of his powers here. Heat vision, super speed, super strength, freeze breath, super hearing. Not bad.

What if Lionel knew about Granny Goodness from the beginning the same way he knew about all of the prophecy stuff that delt with Clark ect. Did he leave Tess with Granny Goodness expecting that she would be killed, maybe he wanted Granny Goodness to purposely change her to fight against the space traveler one day, maybe he just wanted to ditch this brat that he didn't recognize as one of his children, or maybe he thought what he was doing was out of love.

How did he have powers while exposed to that much Kryptonite?

Then again, charging up to full power in the sun then lifting a Kryptonite island into space.... Superman may have access to some powers while exposed to Green K.

I gotta say in the debate that goes on between who is better, Teri sure comes off more natural in her acting.

I agree with this.

I thought the dialogue they gave her was somewhat hammed-up since it was so conveniently situational for the current marriage issue of Lois. It was almost like Ella could specifically see into the future.

BUT Teri delivered it so well and naturally, Durance wouldn't have been able to pull that off.

this one was good, but less consistent than the other episodes this season.

The Lois/mother stuff was great, but it lead into the Lois/Jor'el stuff, which seemed a little too 'easy' for my tastes... I mean honestly, all she had to do is throw one insult out there, and boom, problem solved... too easy. T'was nice to see the kryptonians being nice for once... but I wish they could have come up with a slightly better narrative for the lead in.

The granny goodness stuff was good, but many of the scenes involved with her were stretched out a little too much.

This episode was great, not as fantastic as the other episodes this season has delivered.... but better than most SV episodes.

Great Episode. I have a feeling that this was orginally meant to be the mid-season finally with how the pace of the episode went with so much crammed into it. Lots of guest apperances, I mean how many? Ella Lane, Jor-el, Lara, Granny, Desaad, Godfrey, Harriet, and not to forget Shelby!!!

I don't think anyone mentioned this but....did Clark ever go back for that little girl? Granny obviously made a point of leaving her tied to that chair, and Clark freed her and told her to hide in that room. When she finds her, I would imagine that Granny will take this episode's setback out on that child....

Heh too funny :) She's probably still down in that maintenance closet yelling "Hello! Anyone? Is it OK to come out now??"

How did he have powers while exposed to that much Kryptonite?

Thought the same thing. Unless the freeze breath was the only thing he had enough "juice" left to use at that distance from the Kryptonite fire pit.

Then again, charging up to full power in the sun then lifting a Kryptonite island into space.... Superman may have access to some powers while exposed to Green K.

No. Just...no.

It was a holographic recording from his parents last few moments on Krypton that the fortress just chose to play. No one was really being "nice"

Wait, am I the only one who is uncomfortable with the whole Tess being a Luthor storyline?

Say what you want, but it is painfully obvious that in Bulletproof when Tess says, "I loved you, you son of a *****" she means that in a romantic, I-am-in-love-with-you kind of way.

No it does not explicitly say that, but we as viewers were clearly supposed to get the implied hint. To really believe the idea "maybe she didn't mean it like that" is just...well, stupid . It was just a way for the writers to add more drama to the show since they most likely had no idea she would end up being Lena Luthor.

Now that she is a Luthor, it's just weird. I'll keep an open mind about this storyline and if they end up surprising me, I won't have a problem admitting it. But for the moment I'm skeptical about it.

most knew it was coming, it's good to me. rumor has it lex may come back and kill her in the end. there is only room for one luthor tbh!

I enjoyed the episode, wasn't the best, but it was still a good one.
I'm really happy with the way this season has unfolded so far, a lot better than many of the previous seasons. I'm sure that now we know Tess is a Luthor, Lex will kill her by the end of the season.

I knew about all the spoilers and mainly rumors floating around, but was really hoping they wouldn't actually happen.

why didn't you want it to happen? did you want her to be a clone? my theory is if micheal does not come back they will recast and say the lex we know was a clone. that would explain why the real lex looks different. either that or reconstructive surgery.

i thought the ella and jorel/lara scenes were just right. Each were touching and heart warming. Enjoyed them both. As for the deal with clark using powers while still kryptonite was around. Maybe due to it just being smelting flames it wasnt as strong as just plain rock form. So he was able to still access some of his powers. Or you can say we know clark who been around so much kryptonite in the past decade is starting to build up inmunity to green k a bit. But hey they never been to consistant with how green kryptonite affects clark. As for the whole tess is a luthor, sure like i said in other posts i didnt want it. But it actually worked out pretty well and it wasnt a bad twist. Curious to see how it plays out.

the writers of this show must be bi-polar
one week it's good, the next it sucks.

this whole season was supposed to be darksied crazyness cunning.
but every second week it's this lois crap and her dad or something.

and enough with these kryptonite hindered battles.

Umm, not every single episode has to be about the same storyline

Awesome episode. I almost teared up w/ the Teri Hatcher scenes. Both she and Durance did an excellent job there. In contrast I thought Helen Slater's acting was horribly worse than her previous episode. I guess you can argue that Kryptonians are suppose to be emotionless but whatever.

I loved Granny Goodness, she was really creepy. I hope to see more of her and her Furies in the future.

I agree, she was really off.

Teri was great and didn't look that far off from when she was on Lois and Clark  I gotta say in the debate that goes on between who is better, Teri sure comes off more natural in her acting.

I feel the same way.

Eh. It's not so much that I really care, it's just that while I've always enjoyed Tess as a character, her storyline/motives changes far too often. They always conveniently suit the overall seasonal arc. It's pretty irritating, IMO.

Her chronological story since season eight is:
-Luthorcorp CEO replacement
-"Savior" of the Kandorian orb/strong believe in destroying Doomsday
-Believer in Zod to...
-Secretly working for Checkmate this whole time
-New "Watchtower"
-A Luthor

Part of the reason I don't particularly like it is due to the fact that she did multiple things to spite Lex in the latter half of season eight, such as merging with Queen Industries. That whole little arc is presented as a "woman scorned by love" sort of deal.

In terms of overall character development, it really came out of nowhere. Did anyone really believe Tess would be a Luthor before Lazarus?

Sure we may never really know if it truly was the plan to make her a luthor since season 8. But really if it isnt and it was a new thing. Really isnt that bad of a retcon on things. They give a logical reason with granny screwing with her memories and a easy way to make her a half luthor with the whole pamela thing. So it actually does work and nice way to use continuity too.

Awesome episode!

Loved it from start to finish, there wasn't a moment I didn't like in it.

Of course loved the Erica/ Teri scene just because I'm a huge 'Lois and Clark' fan and I loved Teri on it.

Well acted on both sides, Teri and Erica.

Absolutely loved Granny's orphanege, Smallville's version of Granny is a but more sweeter as in she puts on more of a front.

Normally she's always agressive to anyone.

Tess' storyline was involving as well, it makes sense her being involved in this storyline since she could so easily fit in with the Furies.

Liked this episode.

No further comment. :D
