TDKR...yes. But not the batman character itself. I don't think that upcoming Batman movies will be affected.

Agreed.

When I think "Batman", I'm not going to think "Aurora, CO".

However, when I think "The Dark Knight Rises", there is going to be that asterisk that refers to "Aurora, CO", the same way whenever I think "The Dark Knight", there is that asterisk that refers to "Heath Ledger".

But my overwhelming thought when I think "The Dark Knight Rises" is "awesome movie, best of the series", same way the overwhelming thought when I think "The Dark Knight" is "good movie, Heath Ledger was amazing, but not nearly as good as it's made out to be"

The debate on violence in cinema was heavy the last few days but seems to have subsided. Most people have already moved on with their lives. There's still a bit of fear surrounding the Dark Knight screenings but that won't stop most people from going. They could of called it "the midnight movie massacre" but I'm sure Batman shooting was probably simpler at the time. Some outlets were trying to push an agenda but the consensus seems to be "The Dark Knight film was inspiration but not the cause".

So I'm not trying to make a big issue of it. It just sucks that people were killed and some traumatized for life in what should of been a great time at the cinema . However I still see the media trying to push connections that may or may not relate to the shooter.

Agreed with your "The Dark Knight film was inspiration but not the cause", and agreed with media trying to push connections being irresponsible.

Dane Cook has issued an apology for cracking a joke about the "Dark Knight Rises" massacre ... saying he regrets telling the joke ... and admits it was a "bad judgment call."

Cook just posted a statement on Twitter saying, "I am devastated by the recent tragedy in Colorado & did not mean to make light of what happened."

"I made a bad judgment call with my material last night & regret making a joke at such a sensitive time. My heart goes out to all of the families & friends of the victims."

He was being crucified on twitter today.....

Well, too little, too late....

I looked at some of the tweets people sent him just now and, yeah, I figured people would start telling him things. I don't know how he thought that'd be funny.

A movie, of course.

At this point it mostly seems like the media are picking on WB/DC, or that mentioning Batman would get them more ratings. I don't get the idea at all that they're doing it to protect the town.

They're calling it the "Movie Theater Massacre" on the news outlets in NY/NJ. I've rarely seen it referred to as a Batman/Dark Knight Massacre, or anything tying it into the movie itself.

Personally, I don't like any of the titles. Aurora shouldn't be saddled with it, TDKR shouldn't be saddled with it, and neither should movie theaters.

Apparently Holmes claims to have amnesia and is unable to remember the shooting. Source.

Not sure that I believe that one...

The thing is...whatever comes after this that is expected to have big attendance at the midnight shows is going to be hounded with this. I think the next big tentpole is what, Twilight? Those movies usually make a fortune at midnight, but if it's going to get a ton of publicity regarding security at the midnight shows, if it makes significantly less than expected, this incident is going to be used as a reason why. I think it's going to follow midnight shows for a long, long time.

It happened at TDKR, and unfortunately it's now part of its legacy. Which sucks, because it shouldn't be. They sure as hell never intended this. I was at the trilogy marathon at AMC last week and after watching TDK I remember thinking how great it was that the new movie was coming out without a tragedy hanging over everything. Now it's worse, and while it's trivial in comparison to the loss of life that occurred, it still sucks.

Yeah all of it sucks. We certainly shouldn't call it the "John Holmes massacre" either. Attention is what draws the copycats out to get their 15 seconds of fame too.

Does he remember the month(s) of preparation? Booby trapping his apartment? Or is all that time gone as well.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. This was premeditated for so long, and suddenly once he gets in jail all that time is forgotten?

See, if the shooting in Colorado hadn't happened last week, this never would have made the news. But because it did, and because this happened at a TDKR screening, it's news now:

Two arrested for causing ruckus and assaulting police officers at showing of 'The Dark Knight Rises' at Bronx theater

The two patrons were acting 'boisterous' during the Batman move at the Comcourse Plaza Multiplex on E. 161st St. near Sherman Avenue in Concourse Village around 11:45 p.m., cops said.

Two people were arrested after causing a ruckus and assaulting police officers at a Thursday night showing of “The Dark Knight Rises” at a Bronx theater, police said.

The two patrons were acting “boisterous” during the Batman move at the Comcourse Plaza Multiplex on E. 161st St. near Sherman Avenue in Concourse Village around 11:45 p.m., cops said.

When officers tried to escort the moviegoers outside, they put up a fight, officials said.

One officer was cut on his finger and head while another had ringing in her ears, police said.

Both cops were taken to New York-Presbyterian Columbia Medical Center in stable condition.

Charges against the two unnamed suspects were pending Friday morning, cops said. Neither was carrying any weapons, according to police.

The NYPD has beefed up security at theaters in the wake of last week’s Colorado massacre.

I don't, I just searched his name....but yeah, he has quite a few followers...like...almost 2.9 million....

Just got an email from AMC Theaters. They are now collecting donations for Aurora, and they will match all donations up to a total of $50,000.

http://www.amctheatres.com/aurora

Their statement:

AMC Theatres is deeply saddened by the Aurora tragedy. Movie going is part of our social fabric and this senseless act shakes us to our core. We’re reinforcing our security procedures with our theatre teams, which we cannot discuss in detail for obvious, safety reasons. Local law enforcement agencies, our landlords and their and our local security teams are stepping up nationwide to ensure we provide the safest environment possible for our guests. We couldn’t be more grateful for their collective support.

At this time, our show schedules circuit-wide will not change. We will not allow any guests into our theatres in costumes that make other guests feel uncomfortable and we will not permit face-covering masks or fake weapons inside our buildings. If guests wish to exchange or refund any tickets, we will honor our existing policy and do as our guests wish. We are taking necessary precautions to ensure our guests who wish to enjoy a movie this weekend can do so with as much peace of mind as possible in these circumstances.

Good to hear.

@TDKR copycats, etc.: What. The. Hell. ? Its crazy how many people they've been bringing in, claiming to be copycats or to be planning something for their screening.

He methodically planned this out for months, and when it came time to carry out said plan, he conveniently blacked out throughout the whole incident?

What-the-****-ever. Amateur-hour over here :whatever:.
