I've always disliked how legal teams that use insanity pleas often seem to indicate they feel this person's craziness is a pre-requisite for violence, even though craziness is not necessarily one. Stupidity on the other hand tends to irrational thinking, which leads people to make dumb decisions about how to solve problems.

I think the problem with correlating the shooting with the Batman movies isn't so much that he apparently called himself the Joker. I haven't heard anyone trying to prosecute this guy blame the movie or any of the characters for why he did this.

The problem is that now when anything happens at a movie theater - things that are so mundane that they never would have made the news two weeks ago - the media is reporting it as 'another incident' where TDKR is playing. They're the ones making it out like there's trouble going on wherever this movie is playing, and it's turning people off from going to see the movie.

That's kind of what I was talking about.

Yeah they evacuated the auditorium and gave out replacement passes to everyone there. I called them this morning and it turned out to be a prank someone was playing. I guess someone set off the fire extinguisher or something. Either way, a theatre filling with smoke is no bueno.

I would've **** my pants and ran too.. lol.

le sigh...I haven't and will not read some of the opinions in this thread. However, when I was looking through some of my old posts I saw this and it did make me wonder about some folks....

THREAD: TDK...to dark for kids.... http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?p=15217792&highlight=#post15217792

charl huntress - As a side note to this discussion, my sister asked me if she should let my niece and nephew see TDK because she "heard" its too violent for kids. She wanted my opinion because she knows of my hidden geek nature. Anyway, I'm not saying TDK is too violent, but all this talk might make some parents shy away. My niece is 11 and my nephew is 14. My sister read a review that said TDK should have been "R" rated. My nephew is crazy siked to see this since he's been a fan of The Batman cartoon.

captain clown - you should watch it first then decide.

charl huntress - I will, but I watched movies that I think were worse when I was younger. LOL...I watched Raw Deal when I was like 8 years old. I am fine and not in bad shape, but kids today....well...they are different. I'm not sure what to say because...I don't have any kids.

So much f-ing pressure..... :woot:

captain clown - Ya, I think we need an objective eye to figure if we "didn't turn out too bad" after seeing these movies. Also we aren't these kids either so what works for us definitly might not work for them. I think this movie might have its moments of freaking kids out though.

Lots o lafs - As long as there's no nudity in it who cares if a kid watches it. If he can get in he can see it that's my motto.

Anubis Raptor - Pretty much mine to.

Lots of lafs - Although I don't have kids I take my little cousins to all kinds of stuff.

charl huntress - Hope someone doesn't blow up a school/building/arena/etc in your area trying to imitate the Joker in TDK...if they do let me know how you feel about that:o

You have to censor stuff because certain sectors of society are not always capable of differentiating between real life and fiction. They may take the angst a character feels to a personal level and try to imitate something they saw to obtain the power of a fictional character. Stuff like that happens all the time, and children do that frequently.

I know my niece and nephew are good kids, but the reality of movies is potent and life-changing for some.

Dude obviously wasn't a kid, but maybe we need ratings for adults too...

Kids are more violent than adults anyway :P i let my 3 year old sister play Left4Dead, as long as they understand the difference between reality and make-believe (which kids have a really better grasp of) then i think it's all safe. It depends on the kid, as an adult or a parent what you have to be aware of is if that particular movie/game/story will frighten or scar the kid or not. I used to be terrified at Resident Evil back when I was 8, and of zombies afterwards. My own sister never has that problem.

If someone has a clown-scare and is still in an impressionable age, don't take him or her to TDK without, yknow, telling them that there are scary bits in it. We all love, and are okay with, horror movies most of the time anyway. I refuse to believe that any one movie or game will collectively inspire people to madness or violence. Unless they already have those intentions in them.

What's happening with the trial? It was over yesterday yes?

No, that was just reading the counts against him....it could be another month and a half before we know his plea.....and then probably another 9 to 12 months before the trial....

Holmes was charged with 142 counts. I think he'd be better off being charged with 2,000 volts of electricity.

Hey James you *****e...Joker's hair isn't red.

The funny thing is that is the one issue I have seen most internet nerds having with this whole thing. That his hair isn't green. Yeah, those killings were horrible, but his hair color being inaccurate...that just crosses the line. :oldrazz:

Wait...what killings? I thought he was arrested BECAUSE of the inaccuracy of the hair color!

have they said if they are going to pursue the death penalty for this guy?

normally, I'm more in favor for life in prison. but, in cases like this, I really wouldn't shed a tear........

I'd shed one...

over the beauty of justice.

hmmm...perhaps.......

although there really is no happy outcome in this story, it would provide some degree of satisfaction if justice is delivered to this monster.......

It's a bit freaky that Holmes has fandom now, they call themslves holmies. Is Holmes trying to be C. Manson or something
WTF is wrong with people? I hate to compare this dude to Joker, but this makes the whole Harley Quinn thing creepier than before, I mean here's a quote from an actual fan:
i am a seventeen year old who since i can recall, has always had a fascination with serial killers/murderers. you name it. collumbine? ted bundy? btk? i love them. do i mean i love that they killed people? of course not. i would never kill anyone and i feel for the families who have lost loved ones. however, i'm always intrigued as to why they committed these crimes. how did they do it? what goes through their minds?
Freakin' crazy man. http://www.buzzfeed.com/ryanhatesthis/a-guide-to-the-dark-world-of-the-james-holmes-inte

There is a difference in being intrigued in wondering what possesses someone to commit these types of crimes. I wouldn't call them a fan of the serial killer themselves, but the study of what makes them do it. Isn't that basically a psychiatrist or psychologist?

Not if they're making fan art for the guy.

Wow...yeah. I just got a chance to click on the link. If I ever found my teenage kid worshiping a psycho like that, I'd do exactly what my mother would have done to me. Beat their ass.

Apparently, after the first time he appeared in court, a bunch of Twitter posts popped up from girls asking if it was wrong that they thought he was hot.

Good lord, I might could see that from the very first pic we saw of him....I was totally shocked at how normal he looked.....and looks like many of my students....clean cut, etc.......but, good lord after that court appearance?????? yuk...

If you are gonna say you are the Joker...get it right. He can be Poison Ivy in prison.
