I stumbled upon this over a week ago and forgot to post it. Interesting interview with Bettis about Cowher wanting to go to the New York Giants.

Bill Cowher wants to be the next head coach of the Giants.

At least, he does according to Jerome Bettis, Cowher's former running back with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Bettis said the reason Cowher hasn't returned to coach is because he's "holding out" for the Giants job to open up. In fact, he told Chris "Mad Dog" Russo Thursday on Sirius XM's Mad Dog Radio that Cowher would have gotten the Giants' job in 2008 if Tom Coughlin hadn't taken the Giants on that magical, Super Bowl XLII run.

"That's the team that he really coveted," Bettis said. "This is where he always wanted to be. The Mara family, he's been very close to them. … He's known them very well and was on the inside track - before the Giants won the Super Bowl - for that job. And I think he's holding out for that opportunity if it presents itself."

Bettis added that he believes that Cowher "is going to be with the Giants" eventually - possibly as soon as next year.

"He would have definitely gotten the job (after the 2007 season, if the Giants hadn't gone on a run)," Bettis said. "And if Coughlin doesn't get that team back in the right direction next year I think they'll pull the plug."
It's all speculation of course, but it's interesting speculation considering how Giants co-owner John Mara has seemingly put Coughlin on notice after the Giants' miserable 8-8 season. During his angry postseason press conference, Mara said "I'm not pleased with anybody right now" and served notice by adding "I am anxious to hear from both (Coughlin) and Jerry (Reese) what we're going to do to fix this. "

Mara added that neither his coach nor his GM are currently in danger of being fired, but he offered no guarantees for their future, which could be in doubt if the Giants suffer through another down year.

Meanwhile, the 52-year-old Cowher hasn't coached since the end of the 2006 season, when he stepped down after 15 seasons running the Pittsburgh Steelers. He has been mentioned the last few years in connection with nearly every coaching vacancy. Most NFL observers have assumed he's waiting for John Fox[ to get fired from Carolina so Cowher could take the Panthers job, which would be close to his Raleigh, N.C., home.

But Bettis obviously sees things different. Asked if he thought Cowher was going to sit out until the Giants job open, he said "That's what he's doing. That's where he's got his eyes."
I guess depending on how the NY Giants do next year, we'll see.

I'm surprised yet not at the same time at how little blame those two red zone fumbles are getting that took AT LEAST six points off the board, and the 12 men in the huddle, AND the phantom interference call in OT.

Since re-alignment in 2002, the NFC South has sent three teams to the Super Bowl, the most of any division in the league.

By comparison:
NFC South - 3 (Buccaneers, Panthers, Saints)
NFC West - 2 (Cardinals, Seahawks)
NFC East - 2 (Eagles, Giants)
NFC North - 1 (Bears)

AFC South - 1 (Colts)
AFC West - 1 (Raiders)
AFC East - 1 (Patriots)
AFC North - 1 (Steelers)

That says a lot that the Patriots, Colts, and Steelers have been the only teams to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl since the Raiders in 2002.

Let see if Farve retires or asks to be let out of his contract so he can play on yet another team and try for that second super bowl ring. And lets not forget about retiring then saying he will come back, then retire again and say he is going to come back, then do another Sears add making fun of himself then retire from doing adds only to do a new Wrangler add, then come out and say he will be coming back to the NFL but not for a team that doesn't know how to win like the Vikings, and end up in Arizona.

NFC South is probably the most balanced but the NFC East has the more consistent teams. AFC is pretty much the same clubs every year. I like that in a way. Too much parity and new blood every year is no fun.

And when you say the "NFC East" has more consistent teams, you mean one more consistent team, right? The Eagles are the only thing in the division that constitutes "consistent".

If Favre un-retires (which I expect he will eventually), he'll either go back to Vikings or Cardinals (if Warner retires for good).

Besides the three Super Bowl appearances, the NFC South has three additional NFC Championship Game appearances (Falcons in 2004, Panthers 2005, Saints 2006), thus making them the only division in the NFL to have every team reach the Conference Championship since re-alignment.

The NFC East has only sent two teams to the Conference Title game (Giants in 2007, Eagles in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2008).

If Favre un retires, he has to go to Minnesota given the fact he is under contract.

Bretts coming back to Vikes, no doubt

I'd like to see a new team represent the AFC in the coming years. The Chargers are one team that should have made it by now.

Bettis had a minor feud with Cowher awhile back, over him predicting when he was going to retire. I love The Bus but he likes to talk even when he doesn't have the whole picture.

The Chargers and Jets seem to be the only teams right now primed to break through.

The Dolphins, maybe, but they still need some weapons on offense and more youth on defense.

The Bengals have the talent, but don't seem to have the team ready for the big games.

The Ravens are getting older way too fast in too many areas.

The Texans are right there, but still a few years away from a Super Bowl.

The Titans have the same problems as the Dolphins, and no other teams seem ready to step up.

Bettis got cut loose from NBC, you have to really be a **** up to get cut loose from NBCs abortion of an NFL pregame show

I heard that NBC cut him because they felt he was too run-of-the-mill and boring, trying to be non-contraversial and all of that. I don't know though; I tend to avoid pre-game shows like the plague because I find them annoying. But anyway, I heard he didn't start shooting his mouth off until they gave him the SI column. I like his SI column though; he has some balls and he says things that some people would shy away from. He frequently calls out his former Steelers teammates when they screw up. And usually, he's right.

NFC North - 1 (Bears) 0-1

AFC South - 1 (Colts) 1-0
AFC West - 1 (Raiders) 0-1
AFC East - 1 (Patriots) 3-1
AFC North - 1 (Steelers) 2-0
Let's add some win-loss to that.

Anyone have any idea what Florida has done to earn so many damn Super Bowls? Hell, the Colts last Super Bowl was in Miami. (Actually all four of their Super Bowls have been played in Miami.) Let's get one in Baltimore or Philly so I can go.

It's all about the warm weather, because the broadcasters are *****es when it comes to cold weather, even though the booth they're in has heat.
