Why is this a bad signing? They signed him for one year at the league minimum. All he is here for is depth.

It's a bad signing when your team has a huge image due to 'bad character' guys.

The Patriots could of gotten away with it, the Bengals...not so much.

It's all about perception.

Cincy's image of bad character guys is so over blown it's not even funny. There have been just as many players arrested on other teams. Most of the guys that have acted up are gone and Chris Henry has been reborn. The only bad character guy left is Chad and he might be shipped before the season starts.

It's irrelevant on how fair or accurate the perception is, the perception is still there. The perception is what makes this signing...less than great.

Its a nice pick up for Cincy, Johnson will go back to the 4-3 defense he had so much success with in Chicago. Defensive Cordinator Zimmer spent the last several days talking with Dallas players and coachs all saying Johnson has turned his life around and has been a model person and clean now for 2 years.
He will be a pass rusher, something Cincy has been looking for years, its doubtful he will be a starter, however he came in and worked for the Bengal coachs and they are convinced he will be a good fit and help a defense that got better last year.
This signing helps, because Cincy can now draft a couple offensive lineman to help protect Palmer, who was hurt last year, most due to poor o-line protection.
Also, on the Ocho Cinco trade rumors, Bengals fan are so tired of trade rumors regarding Chad, that we don't beleive them, we hear them almost every off season, if it happens it happens, we've heard just today that both the Jets and Giants are interested, now here Phily wants him, they also wanted TJ.

To his credit, he was cut by Chicago over a DUI before the alcohol tests came out, which reveleaed he wasnt drunk at all. He was also supposedly a model citizen in Dallas.

Rack! This is a great signing for Cincy because as you said, DT has been the weakest part of their defense for years. I think Dallas had the most sacks last year... how much of that was because of Tank can't be known.... but he was a part. The complaints and jokes don't make sense because they got him for one year and for the league minimum. If it was a long term deal worth a decent amount of money then I would see the comedy in it.

Phily is also appearently on the verge of trading for ot Jason Peters in Buffalo.

When I first heard of Johnson's signing, I did immediately think of another law-troubled player on the Bengals, but honestly, he can be a productive DT for Cincy if he stays out of trouble, which I think he will.

The Eagles are aware of that fact...and still have interest...indicating it's not really a hindrance.

Peters would cost the 28th and maybe a later round pick. It's a hinderance because they simply won't give him that contract. They do however like that he's only 26 and can step in and play now.

That DUI was just the final straw in a long string of incidents for Johnson. Not the least of which was him getting pulled over and the cops finding a cache of weapons in his trunk that would rival the Winchester brothers. Hell he had to get a special dispenation from the Court just so he could leave the state of Illinois to play in the Super Bowl in 2007.

The Bears got rid of Tank Johnson because of his legal problems. Why bring in someone that has legal problems? Doesn't make sense

Peters, despite a poor showing last year, is still considered one of the best tackles in the league. And is 26. You greatly undervalue what a franchise left tackle costs.

The Bears were stronger at DT than they are at WR.

Eh, I'd be willing to take Plax, more so if my team were weak or old at WR (MIN, CHI, STL). At least he almost killed himself and not another person.

:lmao:

Just released today:

Leon Hall was arrested on Sunday for DUI

Don't it figure!
