2011 NFL Thread: The Lazarus Season - Part 6

I got Brady and Gronk, just pulled me out a 20 point hole against my brother. Pats look nice, I think they maybe are Super this year.

Not with that kind of defense imo.

I know that Defense is rough but this offense is just explosive. How fun would a shoot out between the Packers and Patriots be to watch? I know Id love it.

Well, Packers do have better defense than Pats', and Rodgers is playing lights out right now. If these two teams meet in SB I think Packers have an edge.

Ugh, I just need 1 more point from Bowe. Just one!

Geez, was it really necessary for Pats to score again after that 2-minute warning?

Yeah, I gave up starting Rivers at QB and made the switch to Ryan Sh**zpantsquick, who then suddenly begins playing horribly. Greene, well, he's been bad all year long. I took the advice of that idiot on NFL Network, Fabiano, and started Ball who did practically nothing this week. And the Bengals D was pretty good until recently... they contributed -1 point.

Fitz has only had a decent game 2 out his last 7 statistically, his poor play didn't happen all of a sudden.

Yes, it was. This isn't high school football. These are professional players. You score until they can stop you. Give them nothing.

They also couldn't take a knee to run out the clock. So, yes. They had to keep moving forward.

Plus it's belichick did you really think he wouldn't go for the score?

And so, yet another week comes to a close and as usual, there are more questions than answers.

As we head into Week 12 and the usually underwhelming Thanksgiving games, it's time for another round of NFL Nicknames.

Underwhelming? San fran vs Baltimore is going to be great. Detroit vs green bay could be great.

I think I needed to clarify there. I didn't mean that the actual matchups this year are underwhelming, just that the games are usually underwhelming for whatever reason. Although maybe this is the year that changes since the Cowboys and the Lions are actually pretty good. I am looking forward to the Lions/Packers game, but the Ravens/49ers one is going to be hard to stomach because the announcers are just going to knobslobber all over the Harbaughs the whole time.

But anyway, on paper, there are plenty of match-ups that sound great, but as Sunday night's Giants/Eagles snoozer proved, that doesn't necessarily mean they'll be entertaining.

Eh...what:doh:

Thank god for a short week, although i have on friday I do think having all these football games right away is great.

Finally, a thanksgiving with some good games. Even the Cowboys vs. Dolphins seems interesting

Yeah I'm very excited to watch football on Thanksgiving this year, I can't say that's been the case recently but there are some good games this year. I'm really curious about the 49er's/Ravens game, I could care less about the sibling rivalry, I just want to see how each team plays against eachother, and see if the 9ers are really the hot-**** the media has made them out to be. (I havent watched a single SF game all year).

Argh why the hell is 49ers vs ravens game on NFL network??!! That's the best matchup on the night it should be on national tv!

Wake up. The Cowboy game is the least intriguing matchup and it will get the highest ratings. That's why.

The AFC is insanity this year. 10 of 16 teams are .500 or worse. If the playoffs started today both wild card teams would be from the AFC North.

I'll say this: The Bengals are actually starting to impress me. Yes, they've lost their past two games, but they stuck around and kept fighting in both. They are not a playoff team right now. They may get in due to the mediocrity of the AFC (though I don't think that they will, I think that the Jets will find a way to weasel in due to the ease of their remaining schedule) but they are not ready to compete and win at that level.

THAT being said, despite this young team showing promise, I don't think that fans should be all that excited. With this early success, I think that Marvin Lewis has guaranteed his job for at least another year (because we all know that Mike Brown isn't about winning but rather profiting and Marvin Lewis has done just enough to put butts in the seats and justify his job). Marvin Lewis will ensure that this team once again self-destructs next season. I really think that the Bengals would have been better off long term if they imploded early on and Lewis was fired during their bye and replaced by Jay Gruden. Marvin Lewis will find a way to make sure that they are back to their losing ways next season.

I remember reading this joke article at the start of the 2010 season where the Bengals promised that, despite some of the high-profile acquisitions they made in the off-season that year and the fact that they won the AFC North in 2009, they were committed to turning their potential playoff team into a consistent loser because that's what the fans had come to expect.

What made it even funnier was that article, despite being an Onion-style parody, actually proved accurate in the end that season. So, given the Bengals' tendency to implode for one reason or another, it's always a realistic possibility that they could wind up 2-14 sometime in the near future.

:funny: I could see it.

In other news, there is talk that Bruce Arians may be a candidate for the head coach job at Ole Miss. Arians has ties to the area and is a close friend of Archie Manning (who is on the search committee). Please Lord, make it happen. That being said, I think the franchise has reached the point where Roethlisberger runs the team. We are more likely to see Tomlin fired and replaced by Arians before they let Arians leave as Rapistberger LOVES Arians. He's saved his job for the past 3 seasons and he will see to it that he becomes a $1,000,000 coordinator to keep him there. Ugh. :(

The funny thing about Arians is, he has overseen the offense of one of the most successful teams of the past decade for the past 5 years. Not once, however, has there been even hint of his name being thrown around as an NFL head coaching candidate. That says a lot, IMO. If he were fired tomorrow, he would be lucky to find a job as a wide receivers coach in the NFL. The Steelers are literally the only organization in the NFL where he can work as a coordinator, only because Roethlisberger adores him.

Is there really proof that Ben has saved Arians' job all these years though? It might be true, I don't know, but it always seemed like a lot of finger pointing to me by fans who can't seem to grasp that the front office of the Steelers occasionally makes bad decisions on their own.

Either way, yeah... I hope he gets the hell out of town after this season. The Steelers have finally learned how to start games on offense, but are having trouble finishing them. I wish they could play at a high level throughout the entire game, and not just one half.

What only one game is allowed on national tv on Thanksgiving? At minimum the 49ers/Ravens game should be on ESPN and not NFL network...

NFL Network has the worst commentators. For the longest time I thought NBC had the worst, BUT OMG Nessler and Mayock are actually professionally terrible.

Wow, that game will not be enjoyable to hear

They're afraid that if the general public was exposed to that much Harbaugh worship, it could cause a nationwide outbreak of projectile vomiting.
