2011 NFL Thread: The Lazarus Season - Part 7

Ah yes.

How soon will the Jaguars move to LA? It seems pretty much a foregone conclusion at this point that it will happen, despite the "verbal agreement" that Khan Noonien Singh will keep the team in Jacksonville. They released Jason Hill yesterday, whoever the hell he is.

And when it happens, what will the team name be? I certainly hope they ditch the Jaguar name and those awful teal uniforms. Everything about that team is an eyesore (apologies to Jax fans, if they actually exist).

What does it really matter? There's still a Smallville thread over in the TV section. The show is over and Tom Welling isn't playing Clark Kent anymore (Thank You, God Almighty) so there really isn't a need to have an entire forum for it anymore, regardless of whatever the mods supposedly promised.

But maybe in 15-20 years, after it's been confirmed that all of the cast members' careers have gone nowhere since the show and they have a two-hour reunion movie (like they did with The Dukes of Hazzard and The Love Boat, I think), if SHH is still around, there could be reason to start a Smallville forum again.

What matters is that for 10 years (aka as long as this site's been Superhero Hype!) there was a dedicated forum of people over there who patronized this site and the forum regularly, and after an unsolicited promise was made to all there that the forum would stay in tact after the show ended and just be relocated into the Superman sub-forum after the DVD release this past Tuesday. It all of a sudden vanished into a thread in the Misc TV Forum a week and a half before the DVD set was released with absolutely zero explanation from anyone, and only after people sought answers was even a half-hearted reason given.

So irregardless of your feelings about the show and it's cast, which were completely irrelevant to the discussion and just inserted to show your perceived sense of fanboy superiority, it was still a ****** thing to do to people who are in fact the "customers" here, some of us from the site's very inception.

And...back to football.

Who's pumped for Eagles/Seahawks tonight?

Two teams with no shot at the playoffs, coached by guys who will likely be fired at the end of the season and starting D-List quarterbacks?

How can you not be pumped for that game?

I doubt that Pete Carroll will be fired. Seahawks have invested too much in him to fire him before at least giving him a quality QB. On the other hand, I could see him resigning if Penn State or any other decent school made him an offer. I have no doubt that if he could cut his losses and find the right school where he could win another national championship, have a guaranteed job for as long as he wants it and save his legacy, he would do so without a second thought.

I think Penn State would go after a "safer" choice. Pete still has some baggage around him.

I agree. I think it's telling that the soon-to-be-ex owner of Jags said that there's no written agreement with the new owner to keep the team in Jacksonville, and lease can be brought out with money (that's why they are lease). There's a guy from ProFootballTalk (Mike Flores I think) who also said to Cowherd that he thinks Jags could be gone in the future.

The guy from Pro Football Talk would be Mike Florio.

That does not change the fact that the original plan was to move the Smallville forum to the Superman section & give it its own place. The mods out right lied about that

I was wondering about that. I thought I remember them saying as much.

If the Jags move to Los Angeles, lets hope that they do not add "Of Anaheim" at the end of their name.

I wish that the team would go somewhere other than LA. They had their chances twice, regardless of the circumstances. I mean if that's the only place, that's the only place but I'd like to see other options like Omaha, Memphis, or Oklahoma City.

The cowardly mods still have not given us a real explanation on why they lied. So until they do yeah I am calling them that. Until they answer for their crimes :o

:funny:

Of course, the Stadium is in the City of Industry, CA, so they would have to add that as opposed to Anaheim. And maybe they could find other creative ways to incorporate locations.

For example, lets say the name of the new LA team is the Devils (just for the irony). They could be:

The Greater Los Angeles Devils of the City of Industy in the San Gabriel Valley of Southern California, United States, Western Hemisphere.

I thought the flexible scheduling would help avoid some of the awful matchups we've been getting. Some of the night games (Thurs, Sun and Mon) have been pretty rough.

I'll still be watching, though ...

I don't understand why there's an unwritten rule about a city having only two chances for a NFL team, quite frankly. LA had Rams for 50 years, so they have proven to have enough fans to support a team for a long period of time. And if people actually read up about the stories involving the reasons why Rams and Raiders left, they'll know that it was actually not due to the fans, but the owners of both teams. Georgia Frontiere essentially sabotaged the team with mismanagement and then threatened NFL unless they let her move the team back to her hometown, and Al Davis (who pushed for a new stadium) took the millions that Irwindale gave him for a proposed stadium then bolted for Oakland.

Anyway, the Farmer's Field is right now the only privately-funded NFL stadium that is proposed in the country, and so far there's no publicly-funded stadium that is greenlighted in cities that need them, such as San Diego and Minneapolis. NFL is a business, and what kind of business would pass up a 1.2 billion stadium in nation's #2 market, and in a city that has 16 million residents?

Btw, I just realized that BL would've responded to this post, like he has always done.

Not even pumped in the LEAST. Why didn't they just move this game? They moved the Colts game last week to put on a more interesting game. Why not this one? However, it'll be interesting to see who does win this one because I have a feeling the Seahawks may pull off a win here. :oldrazz:

Flex schedule only applies to Sunday Night after Week 10. It's the reason you've got Lions/Saints this week as opposed to Colts/Pats. Too many scheduling issues to move a game to a different day with stadium availability, team travel/hotels, etc.

I don't think Pete will be college coaching any time soon. He just barely escaped to Seattle before the NCAA dropped the hammer.

So football, remember football guys?!

Football? Football? What's a football?

I stated that I didn't care about the circumstances. They had 2 teams and both teams went.

And like I said, if it's the only team, it's the only team.

Just curious, how long before a team actually needs to be in a City before they start establishing fans. I mean just cause say LA gets a team, that everyone is going to automatically become LA football fans.

I'm wondering about that with them bringing the NJ Nets to Brooklyn. They aren't going to necessarily swing all the Knick fans over.

You're right. I forgot it only applies to Sunday game swapping. Too bad ...

Oh, absolutely. I don't realistically see him getting the PSU job or anything even close to it. I'm just saying that I don't see him leaving Seattle this year unless he has a guaranteed college job at a school where he could go on auto-pilot and still hold the position for 20 years. Carroll is nothing if not an opportunist. His jump to the NFL was a transparent ploy to avoid disciplinary actions for his recruiting misconduct. I have no doubt that if he felt his job in Seattle wasn't turning out as he wanted and he could find a school that would take him, he'd jump ship again so quickly that it would make Bobby Petrino say, "Damn!!!!"

So the Vikes are planning to release McNabb.

I'm guessing a team with playoff hopes that is currently starting a backup QB will pick him up. He might be close to finished, but he's probably still better than some of the guys you see starting right now. I'm thinking the Bears go after him.

I think the sun has set on McNabb.

I don't think he will be starting next year anywhere, I think the best he's going to do is a backup QB.
