I said Superman could make Spider-man money. I never said the Superman movie that would that would be MoS. :oldrazz:

:funny:

Fair enough. Even with Nolan's name being marketed for this flick, it still won't break the 400 million mark.

i am looking forward to TDKR because i know it will be good because of nolan and the great actors but the trailer gave me a meh feeling

it likely will be a better film but i am just going off trailers and my personal hype

You should watch the prologue then in IMAX. It gave me shivers.

The trailer wasn't a spectacle like The Avengers, but it was dark and more story-based. Just the idea of Bane 'breaking' Batman on-screen and Batman possibly dying/retiring is enough for me.

Yeah, Nolan's name producing . People aren't that dumb. They know the difference, like with Steven Spielberg.

I'm surprised Nolan's name recognition has risen so much since 2008. People actually get excited and know who he is when it pops up. General audience is usually so oblivious.

To be fair, people USED to be "that dumb" with Spielberg...until his name started appearing on so much crap. Nolan's name hasn't yet appeared on anything he didn't direct, so they still may be that dumb with him. :oldrazz:

You'd be surprised...

A few people I know still think that Spielberg directed Transformers simply because his name was advertised in the first two installments. By the time the first DOTM trailer arrived, people were wondering why Michael Bay 'took over'.

Yeah, seriously. Regular movie-goers don't say 'Nolan... who?' Or refer to Nolan as '...that guy who directed TDK'. People are aware of who he is, and are excited to see what he is up to next.

It's official. After watching the Amazing Spider-man trailer, 2012 is going to be the best year ever.

Not even just TASM even though I agree. 2012 has a heap of *seemingly* great movies coming out!

any proof other then '' when i watched a movie i heard.....''

i think Nolan's name is big with hollywood studios. but i dont know how it is with the general public. i am not saying that people dont know who he is. i am asking if there is any proof.

Nope, no proof. Just what I think. And to be honest this kind of thing is pretty hard to prove. Almost and kind of poll or survey would have extreme bias.
Just going by certain things such as friends knowing who he is when normally the only filmmakers that they can immediately recognize by name is Spielberg. Based on that anyone can easily dispute this.

can we agree that when we say Dark Knight and Inception the general public knows that its directed by the same guy. but they dont know teh name Nolan?

Not entirely, since I think more people than usual actually recognize the name itself.

1. The Avengers
2. The Amazing Spider-Man
3. The Hunger Games

Based on trailers and my personal connection to the properties. Obviously The Dark Knight Rises is gonna be special but the trailers were definitely both meh.

I love Pixar but I'm not that excited for Brave. Not because of Cars 2, and not because I think it won't be good, but there are many other movies I'm anticipating more.

Fair enough, but remember this thread isn't about what we're most anticipating, it's about what we believe will make the most money. If this were about anticipation, mine would go Avengers, Dark Knight Rises, and GI Joe Retaliation in that order but clearly it doesn't. Twilight will probably outgross 2 of those three with ease just as Brave will outgross most of the film's we've all named with only an handful outperforming it. Never estimate the Pixar pull.

There is indeed a lot of awesome movies coming out this year. Prometheus is still what i'm most hyped for. But the new Avengers and ASM trailers have increased my hype for them.

Avengers in particular I think had that "Transformers factor". It just had that spectacle and awe inspiring images that I think will appeal to a lot of people, comic book movie fans or not. I just hope it isn't actually like Transformers in terms of quality. I'm confident it won't be, because Whedon is just better at characterisation and story telling than Michael Bay.

The general public don't know Christopher Nolan. They know Spielberg, James Cameron and maybe Michael Bay. Nolan needs 10 more years of successful movie-making before he can become a household name, imo.

My most anticipated movies of the year:

1. Prometheus
2. The Dark Knight Rises
3. Django Unchained
4. Total Recall
5. The Cabin in the Woods
6. The Avengers
7. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D

My prediction at the BO :

#1 Spider-Man / Avengers
#2 TDKR
#3 Prometheus

Top 5 worldwide so far:

1. The Intouchables $217,1 million
2. The Secret World of Arrietty $126,4 million
3. Underworld Awakening $110,3 million
4. The Flowers of War $83,2 million
5. Contraband $70,1 million

This is false. Nolan is on par with Spielberg, Cameron, Bay and Lucas in terms of popularity. Inception's successes indicate that Nolan is now a brand name. 825 million is too abundant of number for a 'unknown' director to rake in -- especially with the film not being a sequel/prequel or apart of a popular franchise/genre.

Nolan is on par with Spielberg, Cameron, Bay and Lucas in terms of popularity.

I don't think so. I think in terms of popularity, Nolan (and JJ Abrams) are a level below those you mentioned but above the likes of Aronofsky, Fincher, etc.

I wouldn't have made that remark if it weren't for my campus -- not even a year ago, but as it stands The Dark Knight and Inception are two (out of the five) most talked about movies here till this day.

So while Bay, Spielberg, Lucas and Cameron have been around for years and are extensively popular around the planet, I don't necessarily place Nolan too far below them considering he's contributed two films to pop culture in such a short time.

1. never............and i mean never..................writte that any director on this planet is as known as Spielberg.
2.Lucas? George Lucas? for the love of god. the guy with the beard? the star wars guy?

yeah i can maybe see that he is like Cameron and Bay. but The Beard and The Beard2? nevah

:woot::oldrazz:

Honestly it's a bit absurd for anyone to think any other director is on Spielberg's level.

Spielberg might be a big name, but that's more because he's been around for a long time now as a director. He hasn't exactly delivered one monster hit after another in recent years like he did in the 70's and 80´s. The latest Indiana Jones and War of the Worlds are the only of his more recent movies that made over $500 million worldwide.
