I guess the Dolphins dodged a bullet for not getting Jeff Fisher. Because Jeff Fisher would have probably let Greg Williams tag along with him

Man as a Saints fan for all my life, I feel like ****. We're so ****ed.

Peyton Manning was seen practicing throwing recently

I've always liked the Saints, but when they start trying to deliberately hurt other players on an opposing teams, that's just wrong & makes the Saints look less "saintly". Hopefully the NFL will drop the hammer down on them. :down

Meh. I can guarantee you they're not the only team to do that. They just got caught. I just love how people are being so sensitive about this when we're yelling in our living rooms and in the stands "Kill him!" or "Put him in a body bag Johnny!" Now we're horrified. "My God, they actually tried to hurt people, what a disgrace!"

Pretty much every defensive player speaking on the issue seem to be upset.....that the League is going to come down hard on the Saints.

Fines, suspensions and removal of draft picks, unless the NFL decides to strip the Saints of the franchise tag.

I enjoy seeing a great hit or tackle as much as any fan, but intentionally trying to hurt someone has no place in the game.

I would argue that is the game. We're all about safety now but isn't the point of defense to stop the other team with force? If they get hurt so be it. I'd love to know of all the "bounties" they collected how many were off illegal hits. I think the number would be a lot smaller than you think.

Precisely what the above poster said. I also enjoy a good hit, tackle, play, but when it comes to intentionally trying to hurt someone or end their career, that's disgusting & has no play place out in the field.

And again, if they got hurt while being hit that was deemed legal, what's the difference? The only wrong part of this was the cash payout portion. Targeting players is what a defense does, it's their purpose in life. As long as their not outside the rules, whats the issue? The Saints should be punished because they set up a cash reward program for that but I can guarantee you every DC in the league tells his guys to knock someone out of the game.

Injuries do happen, there's very little can be done to prevent them all. But the intent of a defense is to stop the other team from gaining a first down, not to injure someone. Those like James Harrison who are deliberately hunting for blood, not the ball, are scum. What makes this even worse, is the Saints were apparently rewarding that kind of behavior.

What's I'm ok with: "Hey, great tackle man, we got the ball back!"

Not ok: "Hey you ripped that guy's ACL. Well done, here's a $1500 bonus!"

By tickling the opponent until he cries Uncle.

What some people seem to be missing here, aside from players being encouraged to deliberately try to injure people, is the fact that they did so using a cash bonus system, and in some instances large sums of money being donated by outside sources.

This is an illegal bonus system that technically circumvents the salary cap, and is a pretty big deal.

Yes, the purpose of the defense is to stop the offense from scoring. However, this is certainly a disgusting practice which would certainly give a team an advantage. This isn't just rewarding someone for a big hit that knocked someone out of the game. This is players and coaches singling out certain players and premeditating injuring them, which definitely undermines "the integrity of the game," a phrase that we heard ad nauseum during "Spygate."

By some people you mean someone other than me who mentioned it in both posts.

Yes. I was actually talking to a friend of mine today who is a Buc's fan of all people who didn't seem to understand that.

Football is a violent sport, should be, always should be, but the line you never cross is being motivated--by cash or other things--to take out players.

Also this confirms my thought of the Saints injuring Moore on purpose in 2010. It looked like they wanted to injure him. They did, tore his right shoulder, IR rest of season in Carolina. I remember saying to the tv that "we need to take out a Saints player in response". Then a actual Panthers player TRIED TOO, cause the ****ing Saints tried to take out one of our RB's same game with a late hit.

If I'm Goodell, I'll take away their 1st, 2nd, 3rd round draft picks for the next 3 years. That's laying down the hammer.

The bounty on Moore was only $5.

Agreed. Though, this year they don't have a first because they traded it.

I actually think that's excessive. If you're going to do that, might as well disband the whole team. Not having a pick in the first 3 rounds for 3 years would probably set this franchise back....way back. Free agency ain't what it used to be.

Getting rid of a first round pick doesn't do the Saints any harm if they Franchise Drew Brees and this incident leads them to trade him for two first round picks.

Instead of getting rid of draft picks, just announce that the Saints cannot put the franchise tag on anyone, including Brees.

Isn't it about time for the new season to start?

*looks at calendar*

NOOOO!! :cmad:

I laughed...and it was in Canadian Dollars at that.

Fine, it's excessive? You still have 4th-7th round picks, & FA pool. You can't baby this.

2012 2nd round pick.
2013 1st round pick.
2014 3rd round pick.

Oh, and 3 years banned from picking up a player from the CFL.

Are you haaaaaaaaappy?

I actually would be ok with them losing the 1st round pick for 3 years. I think the 1st, 2nd and 3rd for 3 years is too much. Also, $1,000,000+ fine and loss of the franchise tag is more than enough. Also, we need to talk suspensions.

When this happened, I wondered exactly why he hit Smith in the endzone, I think it's pretty obvious this guy was going for a little extra cash now.

I know that other teams do this.

Of course some of the plays now in hindsight are obvious.

Against the Giants, they hit Nicks out of bounds, putting him on the injured list. Then there was a roughing the passer against Manning after the play.
