Indeed. That's why I believe the 23 million was for the first 3 years. It's a front loaded contract. So it's not completely unreasonable money grab on his part.

True, but at the same time I can understand why the Saints front office would be hesitant about giving such a front loaded contract considering the cap implications of doing so.

That being said....quarterback is easily the most valuable position in the league. If your quarterback is ****, your team is **** and a good quarterback can make a bad team look good (look at what Manning did for the Colts....no way they went from being AFC champions to the worst in the league in two seasons...Manning covered up a lot of their holes). Maybe 1/5 of your salary cap for the guy who can make or break your team isn't so unreasonable.

Man I really love Brees...before the contract situation. But to ask for that much is just unreasonable. We offered him a contract before last season to make him the highest paid player in league HISTORY and he turned it down. If their was no salary cap than I would just give him 200Million and be done with it. But the NFL doesn't work like that. If he won't accept that contract then you have to set the line somewhere and just say no. Because of him, we're gonna lose Nicks and maybe Colston. Thats his fault not the front office. So yes he did bring us our only SB ring but we gave life to his career as well. He wouldn't be in this position to ask for this money without Sean Payton and the New Orleans Saints. Everybody thought he was done, only two teams wanted him and 1 passed. We were the only team to give him a shot and he wants to destroy our cap when we're gonna need it the most especially now that we won't have first round picks for three years straight maybe. No you just can't pay that price. I say we trade him for the kings ransom and sign Payton. It's the best for the franchise.

I don't know what planet you are living on that you think Peyton Manning will be cheaper or that franchise quarterbacks are a dime a dozen. Ask Miami how easy it has been to find Dan Marino's replacement in the past fifteen years or San Fran how the search for the successor to Steve Young has been going. Finding a legit franchise quarterback is not an easy task and you need one to have long term success now-a-days.

Look at the Steelers. Bill Cowher, one of the best coaches of the modern era consistently had the best defense, offensive line and running game in the league and he still spent almost all of his 15 year career searching for a franchise quarterback and was unable to win a Super Bowl without one. Now Mike Tomlin, a thoroughly mediocre coach is enjoying incredibly success due to the franchise quarterback that Cowher drafted and built. The Steelers, in signing Ben Rothelisberger to his massive contract a couple seasons ago, have given up cap space desperately needed to rebuild their aging offensive and defensive lines. Do you think they'd be better off with Roethlisberger or with a great offensive line protecting Dennis Dixon?

I doubt Manning ask for 23M. 23M is too much for any player. We wanted to make him the highest paid player in league history dude. You can't give everything up.

You also can't expect a 33 year old whose time is running out to backload his contract.

What kind of fan are you..... o.O

That gets respect. Most Saints fans I come across only couldn't name the QB before Brees :hehe:

But I think New Orleans needs Brees. Without him, the team would just go back to the paper bag day.

So anyone wanna put there money on anyone that isn't Tebow for Madden cover?

Yeah and you guys won the ****ing lottery for taking that gamble. I'm a Dolphins fan. I'd give everything up right now for Drew Brees. Colston was the 2nd to last pick of the whole ****ing draft. Drew Brees made him what he is now, lets not get this twisted. Drew Brees has played with a mediocre receiving core his whole time in New Orleans. Other than Colston, who IMO is elite (I hate using that word) and was made so in large part to Drew Brees the WR unit is pretty sub standard. Drew Brees has a lot of Peyton like qualities where he could win with any wideout. They can survive losing Colston. They can't survive losing Breesus.

Im a fan of the Saints before and after Brees.

The man is responsible for your franchise getting a Super Bowl and making them a top-tier team. I feel that you are writing off Brees a little too much.

I would bet my left nut that Tebow makes the cover, but I'd actually like to see Victor Cruz or Mario Manningham on the cover. They would deserve to be on it.

Don't want any Giant on the Madden Cover. :o

Im a fan of the Saints before and after Brees.

Yes, but your making him out to be just another role player by trying to cut ties with him because of current predicament.

Im sure if you were management of the Saints all the other fans would love your idea...

I'm not a fan...but even I know they had Kerry Collins back in 98. Then Jeff Blake and Aaron...Aaron....Aaron...Aaron....Aaron....something.

Colston is a really great Wr and where ever he goes will thrive. We've always had great weapons in NO. Brees just made them elite. Also im not saying we dump him for nothing. Im just saying if we can get get Peyton for less than what Brees is asking for three years then trade Brees. It's not the most PR move especially since bounty gate but sometimes you have to make the tough decisions.

Ok, Peyton is not going to play for less that 15-18 million. Get the idea that Peyton Manning will come cheap out of your head. It's just not going to happen. So what are you suggesting? Dump Brees for a SLIGHTLY more affordable option who has not thrown in over a year and is a serious risk for re-injuring himself (which will effectively end his career)? You have a franchise QB who can go for another 3-5 years and you'll trade that for someone who will likely have one more year in the NFL (if that) over a few million dollars?

15-18Million is cheaper than 23Million. Im not saying Peyton will come cheap but it's been already said he'll take less to go to the best franchise where he thinks he can win a ring or two. I think Peyton has a good three and I feel like Brees has 5. We're gonna be hit very hard by bounty gate. We need to chase the ring for three more years until the lost of first round draft picks hits us hard. Either we tag and trade Brees and sign Peyton or we sign Drew(I want this one the most) to a long term deal that makes him the highest paid QB in league history but not 23M paid more like 18.5 or he rides the franchise tag for three more years but by then he'll be 36 so we'll be probably be ready to move on anyway. If Brees truly wanted to be a Saint for life like he should, he would have signed already.

But the man deserves to be paid, don't you get that? He's ask for a lot but ****, the guy has done more for you than any QB you have ever had.

Cmon, 3-5 years left? 5+ at LEAST

Just let it go, he seems so have a personal hate towards Brees in some weird freaky way...

I dunno, he is 33 years old. I think 3-5 is a reasonable expectation. A player is lucky to go past 35, after all.

But I agree, it is weird the way that he is so sold on throwing Brees under the bus. It's not like Brees is like Roethlisberger where is a rapist/ass to the fans and community. Brees has been a pillar of the New Orleans community, especially in such troubled times, you'd think he'd have more goodwill.
