2013/2014 NFL Thread: Where Hawks Fly - Part 8

The Raiders almost always have a ton of cap space. I just didn't expect them to bring in big names like a Justin Tuck or LaMarr Woodley. I expected them to go out and spend alot getting some players with lower stock than those guys, but who can still play at a high level. Also, whom will have a bit longer expectancy on their usefulness. Unlike Tuck who may not have too much time left in the NFL, depending on how well he's performing over the next few years.

And most of the big names in free agency right now ARE players who have been around for a while. Tuck might actually be one of the older players. And while older, more experienced players is what the Raiders need right now to get their younger players up to snuff (though moreso on offense), I just didn't expect them to go this direction.

The Raiders always overpay for players. This is really nothing new.

The Patriots have strengthened their secondary with the addition of Brandon Browner.

That New England defense is looking to finally be a decent one. If things go right, New England is looking to be one of the more balanced teams next season.

...and I am shocked about Wilfork wanting to be released though I can see why. That New England negotiating stategy is the coldest in the league. "If you don't like what we're offering, don't let the door hit you on the ass on your way out." It's admirable and something I'm quite jealous of as a Pittsburgh fan.

It seems like the Pats have finally realized that the clock is ticking on Tom Brady. I say in another year they're going to be doing what Denver has done in this past week.

Holy poo, The Panthers didn't even offer Nicks a contract? I'm starting to believe Gettleman is seeking to rebuild in 2014 cuz we're not making a move on anyone. No secondary, no receiving core, and no replacement for Gross at LT is yet to be signed.

That's a damn shame since they won the division last season. Gettleman needs to build that receiving core ASAP. The security blanket is gone and he got double coverage all the time.

It's the only explanation. We didn't ask Smith to restructure, we didn't approach Munnerlyn, Ginn, and Mitchell with deals at all, and now we're not even attempting to court any big name free agents. My guess is Gettleman is thinking about the future.

As great as Smith was for us, he's lost several steps and is declining at such rapid pace that he may not be in the league next year. That said, he was by far our best receiver on the roster. All we've got left is King and McNutt (who have yet to record a reception in their careers).

Cam needs weapons. I'm sick of him being our entire offense.

Ugh, the future? They've had three years to build. The defense is elite. Carolina is literally about three or four players away from taking that division away from New Orleans. I hope this past season isn't lightning in the bottle for them.

Here's the kicker though, Gettleman has been our GM for one season. Therefore, I don't think he cares about anyone outside Cam, Kuechly, Star, Short and perhaps Hardy. If it weren't for Cam and Luke being so outrageously talented, I doubt they'd be safe too. They were drafted by the prior regime. Gettleman has drafted five players and he views a longterm future for only our young defensive tackles at the moment. Everybody else outside those five names could be apart of the purge that's approaching. I hope that's not the case though. We're only a few pieces away from being a complete threat to The Seahawks (who we've battled tooth and nail these past two seasons).

Marvin Lewis got another contract extension :lmao:.

Yea it's funny. Cincinnati is so scared of trying something new they're content with mediocrity.

No Greg Olsen love? C'mon.....dammit to hell.

I mean it kinda makes sense, plus who knows the bears better that was available. Gain valuable insight into a division rival and have a great edge rusher to compliment Matthews.

If he doesn't take a paycut, I'm sensing he'll be next. And then Cam will literally have to be Mr. Perfect.

It seems now that the 1st year is worth 8.5 and if they want to cut him next season there's no cap hit. That makes a little more sense.

Lol... and it just seems like yesterday that you were telling me that the Panthers will have a better record than the 49ers in 2014... :oldrazz:

No, I said we'd return the favor and knock y'all out of the playoffs. The only thing The Panthers were lacking last season were weapons, a right tackle and a capable corner. Considering our front seven is superior and still in tact and Cam made Ginn and LaFell appear like actual receivers, I wouldn't count us out yet. We overachieved with mid-tier, one-year deals in 2013.

If I were you though, I'd be more worried about The Seahawks, Cardinals and Rams. You guys may not even get out of your division if Arizona and St. Louis draft franchise QBs.

Seahawks retain Zack Miller with a restructured deal.

I'm not worried.. :yay:

Out of all the years I've been a Panthers fan, nothing is hurting worse than watching Steve Smith go to another team. Hes been with us through so much. I always thought he would retire with the Panthers or he'd be the one to leave to the team.I just hope Gettleman decides to get rid of Olsen. Hes slowly become one of my favorite players on Panthers.
