You know... just to play Devil's advocate, there are PLENTY of reasons, personal reasons, why someone would not want their private affairs on their phone to be looked at...
Brady not giving up his phone does NOT equate an admission of guilt.
Just sayin'
It equates to people who already have a strong dislike for Brady and/or the Patriots organization. I am interested to see how the court case goes forward.
I have tried this line of logic with some people here and they are just not having it.
They never asked for the phone. Why do people keep saying this? They asked about his messages, and only ones pertaining to the case. They say they'd trust him. He still wouldn't do it. For a guy who says he has nothing to hide, he sure has a lot to hide.
He was also willing to hand over two other phones to the NFLPA, but wouldn't hand over that specific phone or records. I wonder why...
I don't know why it is so hard for people to figure out that Brady was not suspended for deflating the footballs, he was suspended for his non-cooperation in an NFL investigation.
I saw an interview yesterday with the lawyer who represented the players involved in the NFL bullying case against the Miami Dolphins. He said that all the players involved handed over their cell phones without hesitation. The cell phones were then searched using specific key words and the NFL only viewed those texts. The guy made special mention to note that he, the player's lawyer, was there during the whole time the NFL had the phones and made sure none of his client's personal information, or stuff that wasn't relevant to the case, was viewed.
So if the scrubs from Miami were smart enough to hire competent lawyers to find a way to cooperate with the investigation and still have their privacy ensured, why couldn't Brady?
Click on the one link above I posted, and they get into why this is different from the Richie Incognito thing.
Also you're right, he was suspended for not cooperating, which makes it even more ridiculous. He's getting suspended for not doing something which the NFL and NFLPA didnt collectively bargain to give the NFL the right to make him do.
He's getting rung up for not doing something the NFL had no right to ask him to do. How can you not comply with rules, when this was never in the rules to begin with?![]()
Russell Wilson signs deal with Seahawks worth $87.6M over 4 years. $60M is guaranteed.

Seattle (or both sides) got a good deal. I honestly thought he was going to command a 100+million dollar deal.
It still pisses off Wagner, Bennett and Chancellor though. They realize two of them are not gonna get paid what they want.
Would Brady have accepted a heavy fine?
Yeah, but the problem is Chancellor and Bennett already have signed their contracts already. They seem to have remorse over the contract. Some even threaten a hold out, which totally made no sense.
Let me ask you this: What is a contract? Isn't it something you signed for and then agree to do it no matter what circumstances shows up? In other words, if you signed a contract, you ought to honor it no matter what.
Here, we have 2 guys don't. (Actually 1 for now, since Bennett did show up). I am not sure why it pisses Wagner because Seattle do have room to sign him in a fairly large contract as well. I am expecting that he will be getting a big contract. He hasn't even been in talks yet. Kam and Bennett will need to play out of their minds if they want to start asking for a raise.
Wilson's "success" has been a catalyst for his teammates wanting more. Let's be honest, Lynch is the engine for that offense, not Wilson. So, guys like Bennett, Wagner and Chancellor (who have been vital for the defense) see this as a final opportunity to get the max. Wagner, especially, is seeking a massive contract since the defense started to look average at stopping the run when he got injured last year.
Wagner is a Top 3 ILB. Hell, I'd argue he's right behind Kuechly. So he's looking for his payday and I don't blame him. However, he knows Seattle is gonna play hardball with him. Now that Wilson got nearly 60 million guaranteed, there's a chance that he won't get what he desires. His tweet said it all:
"You can't keep everyone."
Chancellor is possibly the best SS in the league but his style of play isn't meant for a long career. Kam is likely gonna hit a hard decline at 30. I don't blame him for trying to get more guaranteed money. He's got 2-3 good years left before his body starts to break down.
The Seattle Seahawks have signed All-Pro middle linebacker Bobby Wagner to a four-year contract extension.
Team owner Paul Allen confirmed Wagner's extension on his Twitter account on Saturday night. The deal is worth $43 million, making Wagner the highest-paid middle linebacker in football, according to NFL.com.
