The next true evolution of Madden will manage to incorporate stadium financing issues, possible franchise relocation and owner removal due to scandal.

Los Angeles has become Ellis Island for s****y football teams.

Young coaches tend not to do so well.
It worked out okay for Mike Tomlin. Granted, he was a little bit older and it also helped having Roethlisberger, Hines Ward, Heath Miller, Troy Polamalu, etc.

As you said, Tomlin walked on to a Super Bowl contending team with a franchise QB entering his prime. McVay is considerably younger and walking into a bit of a mess.

I dunno, the whole move feels like an attempt to bring in a young, handsome, charismatic coach to fit with the LA image. It feels more about perception than desire to succeed. I can't help but get vibes of Josh McDaniels 1.0.

That being said, the success of this team may hinge on the power dynamic. Specifically, who hired Philips and who does he report to (McVay, or GM Les Snead)? If the latter, there may be some hope. Phillips was a head coach, has tons of experience and maturity. If he is there to serve as a mature, experienced voice who will mentor McVay and is, in essence, the team's second head coach, it could work.

It fits for an uninspired team and city.

I guarantee you the person who came up with that patted themselves on the back for being so clever.

Why both LA teams didn't wait to interview any of the playoff coordinators in the off season blows my damn mind.

None of the teams did. Although San Fran is set to interview Tom Cable, Kyle Shanahan, and Josh McDaniels this weekend, they don't really count as a team.

Honestly, I think Cable is gonna be the one who takes it. No one credible wants to go to that death trap of a job.

McDaniels isn't going to waste his second chance in San Fran for anything short of Bill Belichick level power (like VP of football operations) and a contract with a huge fee to York for early termination. York made clear in his press conference that he isn't giving up that kind of power. So McDaniels will just wait for the right opportunity to open up, knowing he will be a hot commodity every season and worst case scenario, he takes Belichick's job when the Hoodie retires.

Same with Shanahan. He has no reason to jump into a such bad situation for a young HC. His father's name will carry him and ensure that he gets interviews for almost any HC opening. But once he takes it, that free pass is over. His record will define him from that point on. San Fran is a long term rebuild. There is no way to turn it around in a season or two. Further, York has shown he doesn't have the patience to wait for the results of a rebuild (evidenced by firing Kelly after one season, well before he had time to build his roster and implement his system and plan). He will tank his own prospects by going there. Only way Kyle Shanahan should agree to coach San Fran is if his father is made GM or VP of Football Operations.

Being as I don't think York will give franchise control to McDaniels or Shanahan (either of them), that leaves us with Cable. A man who already had a shot and was terrible, was too sleazy for even Al Davis, and has off-field issues including a volatile personality and a history of abusing women. It is really a match made in heaven. No credible owner would hire Cable and no credible coach would work for York. So I am guessing Tom Cable will be the next head coach of San Fransisco.

Steelers reinstated Joey Porter and he is coaching this week. Art Rooney is rolling in his grave.

Ah, the curious case of Mike Tomlin and Joey Porter continues.

For those who don't remember, almost immediately after Tomlin took over as head coach of the Steelers, he let Porter go. Porter's skills hadn't diminished, mind you, they just didn't want to pay him a bonus. But the move was also widely seen as Tomlin not being willing to put up with Porter's on-field antics.

Flash forward to 2014, Tomlin and the Steelers hire Porter as a coach, and continue to keep him on staff after 1. directly interfering with players in a playoff game (they even awarded him the game ball for this) and 2. getting into a drunken bar fight. It's a bizarre scenario and it seems to me like Porter is more trouble than he's worth. I mean, he's just a linebackers coach.

I'm so going to get flamed for the first part of this post. I will defend Joey Porter for last year's playoff game. No, you normally don't even see the head coach let alone any other coach go out to see an injured player on the field. Porter decided to. If I recall (please correct me if I am wrong), it's at the referee's discretion if a coach/assistant on the field warrants a flag. Then if you watch closely, Porter actually didn't even pick a fight with any player. He was shoved by another Bengals player then gets grabbed. Then we know what happened after. Porter was not out there thuggin'.

With that said, Tomlin giving him the game ball was such a bad move. It was a "Thank God your involvement got us a penalty" reward which lacks integrity. That's embarassing. And it's an even worse move to reinstate Porter after less than a week when a player would have gotten an even harsher punishment. Just not a good look at all. At least wait longer if not purely for PR. I don't know if Porter's reinstatement was a owner, GM, or head coach decision but like Colin Cowherd says, it's not buttoned up. You wouldn't see New England do that.

I agree 100%. I feel for San Francisco fans. The team literally went from one of the best teams in the league to one of the worst in the span of two seasons. York is an owner who sabotaged his own team because of arrogance and a lack of patience.
