^ Totally get that. I mean, it's like being surprised that Nic Cage overacted in his latest film.

It's just that violence against women, even if it's just a dumb jokey line in a rap song, immediately makes my skin crawl. Em's an equal opportunity misanthrope, and I'm aware that it isn't even the first time he's threatened serious injury to a woman, but come on. It's just dumb shock tactics.

I respect your opinion, but that's what it's intended to be taken as. It's not like Eminem decided to recently undergo that strategy to resurrect his career. He's always been that way, and you would think by now people would be used to it.

The problem is that we live in a time of extreme political correctness, so even jokes or shock comedy can't be taken as what they are.

Dozens of comedians make the most controversial jokes, but they're immediately dismissed as "entertainers." The same standard should be held for entertainment and media across the board, in my opinion.

I get that. It's just that so many rappers (Kanye, Kendrick, Killer Mike, Azealia Banks), have found other topics to write about and different, often brilliant ways to discuss them. I expect shock tactics from most if not all of them, but I tire of them easily. I'm not expecting Public Enemy-levels of cogent political analysis all the time either, but it's always great to see artists forge new territory for themselves. I'm really not a fan of Em's, but "Stan" was so frightening and really rather tragic, because the topic was so real and, to my knowledge, not really discussed that much in rap.

Also, the thing with "Stan" is that you can really expect something like that to happen.

It probably has happened.

With the right mindset, anything can become a stalker song.

Example: I've always thought this sounded off...

Link's not working for me :/. Now I just imagine Dido in her house having a Max Dillon-style imaginary conversation with some dude that picked up her books.

Ah "Every Breath You Take". That song gets played at weddings, you know.

LL

Also, "Song For Zula" can be interpreted as a song about a crazy stalker who wants to kill the person they're stalking.

I thought that song's inclusion in TASM2 would be related to Max somehow. Feeling wounded by love and loneliness and all that. Makes for good romantic background music though.

This is an Elvis Costello song, and it's my pick for the ultimate stalker anthem. Fiona's cover takes it to a whole other level of scary. Did I post the link correctly? I'm still not really familiar with the ins and outs of the forum.

Yeah, I heard this before... it's THE stalker song.

God damn, I really need sit my ass down and watch Apes 2.

Yessir.

It was very intense, man.

Yes! That's a movie I bookmarked after seeing the trailer as well. Also, even though I had seen the AoU trailer a million times already, seeing it onscreen got me pumped even more :woot:

I'm trying to remember what other good trailers I saw.

The movies that looked good that I got trailers for were AOU, Fast 7, Selma, and Exodus.

Exodus is my most anticipated movie for the remainder of the year.

Who do I contact about changing my username? Or am I stuck with it? I feel weird having a DC name and not posting there often if at all

Surprisingly, I liked it. :yay:

I get the feeling that it's a diss track, but I have no idea who dissed him. :funny:

It is, but I have no idea who it's against either :funny:

I believe it's supposed to be about an underground artist in Toronto.

Immortal Technique, Wu Tang, and artists like Public Enemy are made for that kind of audience. Trust me, they're still prominent among genuine Hip Hop listeners today, but that's what different styles and audiences are for.

Without being biased against Eminem, he's touched every possible category in his songs. Whether it was about criticizing politicians, the government in general, other prominent members in our society, or hot button issues, he's made different kinds of songs for phases of his life.

Some see "Stan" as frightening, and others see it as a story. Eminem used it to describe the level of craziness that some of his fans had reached, and it was used to highlight how insane our obsession with celebrities can be. I realize not everyone analyzes the a song that way, but even Eminem admitted that he had received fan-mail that indicated that kind of attachment to him as an artist.

Even fans like me and Miles admit that he can cross the line sometimes, but the shortcomings of the genre in general can't be the responsibility of one artist. There's plenty of Hip Hop artists making music with substance, they just don't get the same attention.

Yes, Fast 7! That's the one I've been trying to think of. That, Exodus, and The Interview are the movies I'm looking forward to the most.

James Franco looks like he's about to be part of another good comedy.

Oh for sure. And there's more recent artists like M.I.A. who are so exciting and bring such a unique voice to the genre. Hip hop is just like any genre, it has its high and low points.

The Interview does look really funny.

Did you watch This is the End? That was a funny movie. :woot:

Seriously, they never run out of ideas.

This is the End is officially on my list, actually, so it's just a matter of getting around to it.

But it definitely looks hilarious, so I have a feeling I'll like it :)

This is how Aunt May should be in her spin-off movie.

Is Kraven's Last Hunt generally agreed to be the best Spider-Man story? I certainly think it is.
