    Happy Thanksgiving, Guest!

The Avengers 3 Things you WORRY about happenining in the Avengers...

its happened in the books (didn't it?) i don't understand why folks don't want it to happen.

As long as he doesn't transform into Beta Ray Steve, I am fine.

I never read that comic when Cap lifts Mjolnir. So when he lift it, did he algo gain Thor's powers??

It happened in Thor #390, but Rogers did not transform or anything. And YES...that is Steve Rogers in the Black outfit and it was in regular continuity.

Why can't Avengers use each other's weapons? Thor's hammer I can understand, but if someone wants to throw Cap's shield, or wear one of Stark's armour, then whatever! It's a crossover movie!

Ugh no, what's next wearing eachothers underwear.

It takes away from the uniqueness of the character. It would make it seem like anyone can do what they do.

It almost ruined Iron Man in the comics, it got so bad that Aunt May once wore his armor. Hopefully in future Iron Man movies they bring in Extremis or his Bleeding Edge armor so that NO ONE would be able to waltz downstairs and put it on like Rhodey did in part 2.

Ther are many factors that make a good movie. Characters I care for and are not just walking stereotypes, a convincing and somewhat original plot even within the boundaries of it's genre, good acting, good editing (bad editing can take me out of a movie really fast, Serenity was a hack job on that department), a nice pace, a somewhat clear direction, not too much emphasis on action scenes to a degree that they overshadow the story, substance over style (this is where Whedon has to learn a few things), the right mood for the setting and a couple of others. Or did you want examples?

Examples please.

3-Some heroes having to much screen time
2-The Avengers not being assembled to prepare for a coming threat
1-Loki being the main villain

Exactly

1. Hulk and Thor being underpowered

2. Silly fight scenes in order to allow the low powered people to do something

3. Not enough action.

1. A thin plot that makes it feel more like a toy commercial than a story. That also goes for not enough character development and they feel like they're there to fill out a checklist (see X3).

2. Not enough of an epic scale. These characters in one film such have a grand quality and not feel like a slightly higher budgeted Iron Man 2.

3. The Hulk looking like a CGI cartoon ruining the believability of the movie as he did in 2003 and 2008.

A few extras:

4. A villain who does not feel like a major threat that forced all these characters together.

5. Son of Coul going to Valhalla too soon. :oldrazz:

That's it for now.

Why is everyone concerned about character development? Wasn't that one of the main things covered by each of the heroes individual movies leading up to this? Ppl should be more concerned about a paper thin plot that anything else....

NO SHORT RUNTIMES. The Avengers will be the most epic movie Marvel has ever attempted, and possibly ever *will* attempt. It should clock in *at least* 2:30. Forget all this bull**** theory about "shorter runtimes = more showings at the local cineplex." People (including theater owners) will *gladly* forego mass-market multi-screen short flicks in favor of epic movies that ACT like epic movies --- i.e., 2.5-3 hour runtimes, even 10-minute intermissions, etc.

Yes!

Running Time - Marvel really needs to forget number of screens and showtimes concerning the box office potential and not be afraid to release a long movie. They've been setting this up from the beginning and it's time to do it right. People will pay to see it no matter the length. Besides, they had to have learned that cutting character development from Incredible Hulk made them LESS money.

Alien burn out - If they don't ground the Skrull threat Avengers will be just another Cowboys & Aliens, Skyline, Battleship, The Darkest Hour (anyone see that lame trailer?) and waste the good will built up by everything they've done to date.

Action Balance - I'm not one of the people who have been clamoring for non-stop video game type action sequences. I want to see epic fights but not tremendously long fights. That gets repetitive and boring after a while.

It's both. If the plot is thin than the movie is boring. If it's just a bunch of superheroes (even if we've met most of them before) running from one set piece to another, it's still boring. Character development doesn't mean seeing them talk about who they are and where they came from (though I do expect a scene like that between BW and Hawkeye), it means the characters feeling authentic and having memorable interaction. The reason Serenity is a great movie is not its clever, but certainly not revolutionary, plot. It's because watching these characters interact with one another is such a joy and so entertaining that it becomes a highlight within the movie itself. It's the difference from XFC and X3, for example.

Honestly, that would be kind of awesome to see. Especially if someone like Hulk tried to lift it and failed, then Cap came along and started beating the **** out of people with it. Haha, craziness.

The only interesting character interactions in First Class were Erik and Charles.

This

I think the lower powered characters should have their shine as well, but I think the heavy hitters should be shown as being in a league of their own.

I'd also add Mystique and Shaw to that. However, all of their interactions--even from minor characters like Beast and Banshee--were incredibly engaging and entertaining. Even if you didn't know a lot about these characters, you understood them, liked them for the most part and their interactions felt real and enjoyable.

Meanwhile, in X3 they all felt stiff and flat. They were boring to watch and their dialogue was clumsy, generic trite.

However, Serenity is a better goal than XFC in terms of character writing, in my opinion.

Not the part where they were naming each other, that was the lamest thing I've seen in a superhero movie this year.

I don't think it was the lamest, but I agree on that scene being pretty damn lame.

Can't remember, I don't really pay attention to "lame occurances" in films.

I guess my wanting Cap to lift The Hammer should go into the other thread, but we're talking about it here;

If he were to lift it, shocked looks are an obvious pre-requisite. After the initial gasp, and Cap smacking a few evil little non-skrully Skrulls in a purely physical, one-by-one fashion, he hands it back to Thor who, after recovering from said shock, says with a smile, "not bad for a beginner", and then wipes out an entire wave of them with a lightning bolt, then winks at Cap who nods in appreciation...

This they did this in the recent avengers cartoon with blackwidow and hawkeye looked ridiculous.
