5 changes you would make to some of the movies (DC Edition)

I'd make Batman Begins and The Dark Knight more superhero movie than crime drama.

For Superman: The Movie(78), I would get rid of everything about the Krypton Villains. And then in the second movie, you go back to Krypton in flashback and tell their story entirely from judgement to improsement to fighting Superman, etc...Someone like Gregory Peck(commanding noble presence) would be Superman's father Jor-El, while Marlon would play shaved head Luthor instead. The greatest actor playing the greatest criminal mind. Luthor wouldn't be a bumbling 1960s Batman tv show-like super-villain in a secret lair underground. He would be rather more subtle and nobody would know he's a criminal. Maybe a scientist working on secret progects for the goverment. Of course his plot would have to be more interesting and less cartoonish than some real estate scam.

BTW, what if the almost destruction of Earth would have happened in the third movie instead? You have Luthor starting a nefarious plot and by the third movie, when he realises that he can't beat Superman and he's been exposed and disgraced, he launches a doomsday plan to destroy the Earth and that's when Supe' has to catch the three nukes, it causes the damages, he reverse the Earth, etc...And it would make it more realistic than he would cry for a dying Lois given that by then he would have known her for a while. It was a good scene when it happened in the first movie but it didn't make a whole lot of sense really since he barely knew her.

BATMAN - Add three flashbacks sequences: a) Bruce Wayne in his manor with the bat coming throuigh the window b) Bruce Wayne being trained, c) The Wayne's murder as shown. Add that and that would be my definitive Batman movie.

BATMAN BEGINS - Scarecrow as a worthy villiain. Better fight scenes. No Rachel/female friend Bruce knows since he was a child.

Superman Returns:

1) Replace Kid subplot with flashback subplot
2) Different Lois Actress, someone... sturdier
3) In Media Res plot with Origin flashback ala Hulk 2008
4) Metallo construct by Luthor for 1-2 big fight scenes
5) Lex as a mastermind puppeteer, a credible threat even without Kryptonite.

For my challenge I will try to change five things about Batman & Robin to try to make it good or at least watchable.

1) No Batgirl. Every scene with her is excruciating.
2) No Poison Ivy. Mr. Freeze should be the only villain, albeit a sympathetic one.
3) Cut the camp. The dumb jokes and camp killed this movie. Buried underneath it is actually a decent story.
4) Recast George Clooney. Great actor but completely the wrong role for him.
5) Recast Arnold Schwartzeneggar. He was the best part of the real movie, but he has no place in a more serious Bat-film.

-Batman Begins, no more flying on rooftops and erase the two guys over explaining what's going to happen to Wayne Tower when the train would hit. And I would cut about 15 minutes of footage to not make the movie progress slowwwww...and make Carmine Falcone a real Italian. No Rachel...

-The Dark Knight, cut 20 minutes, change the look of Gotham and whould have killed Rachel earlier.

- Batman 1989

Don't kill the Joker off
Stronger characterization of Dent

- Batman Returns

Closer association with B89
Vicki Vale present
Continuation of Dent's story
No Max Shreck

- Batman Begins

"Nice coat"
"Excuse me"
Over explanation via Wayne Tower employees

- The Dark Knight

Cut out the trip to Hong Kong, which the only thing that derailed the narrative for like 15 - 20 min. Cool sequence, was just really unnecessary.

Superman III, as others have said, I would also have the computer villain be Brainiac, and I would have left Richard Pryor out altogether. There would still be a corporate Villain, but that would be Lex. Somehow one of his machinations with Brainiac allows him to become corporate Lex.

I would leave in the Lana Sub Plot. The last change would be near the end with Brad Wilson.

We would show Brad, jobless, after having lost everything, and in despair about to jump off a building, but being picked up by Superman and flown Somewhere to have a Chat.

Brad would explain how his life turned upside-down, and Superman would tell him; "things are going to be ok, but you have to stop drinking", and "you have been the master of his own suffering, but the good news is you have the power to change". I would like a scene where it really seems Superman got to him, and made a good difference in his life.

Superman would then bring him to the work site and help get Brad a new job.

Superman Returns

I would change just about everything, but here's an idea: Instead of growing the ******ed death continent, Lex uses the stolen krystals to fake a Kryptonian invasion! That's right, straight out of "Birthright". However, thanks to Superman's unexplained absence, it would be all too easy for Lex to create a bogus story to go with it: Upon learning of Krypton's location, Superman took off to rejoin his people and plan an invasion, as he was essentially an advance scout. Supes comes back with a suspicious explanation of his departure, and shortly after comes the Kryptonian army to conquer Earth. Now that's mind over muscle!

They could use the businessman Lex angle and Superman would be shocked to find "the greatest criminal mind of our time" has seemingly gone legit.

Batman Begins: Rachel Dawes does not exist. Instead, Bruce Wayne's childhood friend Harvey Dent is the voice of reason. He's a rising attorney in the DA's office, with a strong drive to clean up Gotham. He grew up considering the Wayne's his family...and after their deaths...he became a crime fighter the way Bruce's dad would envision one, through the legal system. He still tells Bruce that his father would be ashamed of him for having a gun. While Bruce is consumed by his demons, Harvey works to make things right...and becomes the white knight of Gotham. I think that this slight change would make it all the more tragic when Batman has to take down Dent in TDK.

there is so much they could have done differently. its too bad it was pretty much just rehash superman 1.

this is a fun thread...

Superman Returns
a) make Lex a corporate guru (even if it's the same one as the original, but reformed.
b) NO KID...at least not superman's
c) actually explore the "world doesn't need superman" instead of a passing thought

TDK
Two-face surviving and becoming the villain of #3

BB
instead of Dawes, make the character Dent. they could have been childhood best friends.

Superman the movie
-no time travel shinanigans. if he went back in time, then the missiles should have reset as well. only flaw (major one tho) of an almost perfect movie

Superman 2
-no amnesia kiss. just have lois know.

TDK - Length issues. I think had the film been about 15 mins tighter it would have made for an even better movie, the problem being every time I watch it I can't figure out which sequences one could trim. The Honkers sequence is the obvious one that could have used some work, other than that, not sure.

TDK - Stretch the fall of Harvey Dent over two films. Yes he lost the love of his life and sure he was pissed and all but Dent's fall from grace was still a bit too quick for my liking.

Superman Returns - Different actress for Lois Lane. Did anyone seriously look at Bosworth and see a career minded 30-something single mother? Her child looked like her kid brother.

Superman Returns - Add some freaking action. It's all there in the bloody trailer, the rest of the film is just a lot of flying around. Superman 2 had one-tenth the budget and people where throwing buses around for crying out load.

Catwoman - Would have scrapped this from the start.
I agree. I went even further and wished that it was his character instead of dawes as bruce's childhood friend

Y'now this thread will be locked cuz you didn't write "Reboot" in the title, right? Just kidding!

Superman III- Brainiac as the main villian who hunts Supergirl (sole survivor of a sister planet to Kryton) after she seeks refuge on Earth. That's where she befriends Superman who becomes her mentor leading off to her spin off solo film. Maybe she could even battle a red Krytonite influenced Superman.

Superman 4-vs Bizarro and Metallo

Superman Returns-Being that Superman 3 and 4 were released still as they actually came out as (Richard Pryor,Nuclear Man,ect). On his mother's birthday,Superman returns from a long exile in space and finds earth more of a hell hole than he left it. Luthor's influence has risen him to presidency and has hired Metallo as insurance if the Man of Steel ever returned.Lois is engaged still but doesn't have a child.Brainiac is introduced ever so subtly as a subplot.

Batman 1-Have Michael Keaton get in considerably better shape, show him sparring with a martial arts student or teacher and give any indication of why he used a bat theme. Batman Forever did this pretty well but I'd rather it have been discussed within either of the first Burton films.

Batman Returns-Make Max Shreck Harvey Dent as originally intended, give Catwoman a better orgin and make the Penguin odd but not so freakish looking.

Batman Forever-Made Tommy Lee Jones or Billy Dee Williams' Two Face a tragic character with a soul divided rather than a sad immitation of the Joker, keep Edward Nigma as a disgruntled, unbalanced employee of Wayne Industries but lose the "brain drain" machine,no neon and a younger Dick Grayson.

Batman and Robin-Make Mr.Freeze's character much more like Arnold's Terminator 1 character, make Bane debut imn another sequel instead of this movie and have him not only a physical threat but a psychologic threat as well, make Poison Ivy chill on the "love dust" and look hot rather than ridiculous, keep the fall out between Batman and Robin but keep out Batgirl.
your batman changes are amazingly very spot-on.

amazing. we come up with so much better stories just to sit back and think about it

I have been saying this since i heard of dawes character. it would have also made sense when dent was introduced in the second movie.

i mean a big shot like him, how come he was no where to be seen in a big falconi/cane court situation. doesn't makes sense he came out of nowhere.

well in the second movie he was just recently hired as the new DA since that other DA was killed in the first movie if i recall.

Dent did just kind of come out of nowhere. Aside from having a "love interest", Rachel served no purpose that could not have been performed by Harvey in Batman Begins.

Although...you could have had Harvey with a girlfriend in Begins...they are engaged in TDK, and when she dies it sends him over the edge.

What this does is two-fold...in Begins, it sets up a situation where Batman envies Dent...because he is unable to have a relationship. This sort of reverence to his friend, who has grown up to become everything that Bruce's dad would have wished for his own son...would be a strong driving force for Batman supporting Harvey Dent's war on crime. Then, when the inevitable turn came...taking down Dent would have been a very hard thing for Batman to do...and at the same time...the death of Dent's fiance, and his tragic end would further solidify that Batman CANNOT have a life outside of his mission. He cant fall in love. He cant be happy. If he does, tragedy will follow...and his mission is too important to waste on selfishness.

i see. will would have been nice if dawes became the new DA after he died. so through that logic, dent would would still have been dawes character, and became the DA after the original one dies.

very well said. one of the few flaws in an otherwise pretty perfect franchise/interpretation

yea it wouldnt have mind those changes to bb too. Heck we could have dropped rachael and used maybe vicki vale too for bruce.
