The Amazing Spider-Man (500) Days of Waiting for "The Amazing Spider-Man" continued... - Part 3

Looking at all these Ditko covers here, I still don't get how they say Spidey was skinny in those, may in AF15 he was, but not here

Prepare to be amazed in

days

I love that shot of Spidey. I'm not sure that's one of his iconic poses but it just looks so badass.

Agreed. It's really been post-Romita Jr. that's he's been presented as being lanky.

I like this issue a lot. Like most of Lee/Ditko's run this issue is a real break from the norm of most comics at the time. There's barely even a fight with a villain in the issue.

There's a lot of Peter's life falling apart with Aunt May being ill again, everybody at school hates him, he sees Betty Brant is seeing another guy now, everybody thinks Spidey's a coward for running away from a fight the previous issue when he was going to see Aunt May after he heard she was sick, he throws the costume away and vows to put Spidey behind him and try's to get his life back together. Aunt May gets better and gives him a speech on not giving up and just like that Spidey is back in action and better than ever before! Great stuff.

I'm rare breed here, but I like the Chapter One version of this story

It was a modern retelling drawn and written by John Byrne, meant to retell and take place of certain classic stories by Lee & Ditko, thankfully the decision was scrapped, cause the stories were deemed terrible by the grand majority of fans

Read the issue today, smiling Jonah in the office and his staff reactions remain one of the best and most hilarious scenes in any comic

What's "Chapter one"? Never heard of it

The big thing that pissed off fans about it was that it was meant to replace the classic Lee/Ditko issues. Not much was actually even different from the original stories in Chapter One, just stupid changes like Peter and Ock getting their powers in the same explosion (Lessening the number of radiation experiments in the Marvel universe gone wrong by one. Who even gave a crap besides Byrne?) and Sandman being Norman Osborn's cousin because they have the same hair. Not kidding. :o

I do like some of John Byrne's art in it. The whole thing was unnecessary, though.

I've seen plenty of art showing their faces pretty similar, so reading Chapter One before almost anything else made sense to me

Fantastic issue btw
No one thought Spidey might be moving the fight away? The ones who thought this was just an act? The ones who doubted this was just an act?
