Bite-Sized Review: A woke Commando was not what I was expecting from the Toxic Avenger but I'm sure as hell not complaining.

Bite-Sized Review: I can't imagine where Tim Burton got his aesthetic...

93. Bit (2019) dir. Brad Michael Elmore

Bite-Sized Review: An interesting film where the vampire stuff is rather poor, but the trans tale is pretty strong and includes a scene that gets me every time. Add a great soundtrack and Maines being her usual awesome self, and this will always be worth a watch.

94. Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005) dir. Nick Park & Steve Box

Bite-Sized Review: 20 years and it hasn't aged a day.

Man I was not a fan of this at all which sucks because I thought the trailers looked great but this was a whole convoluted mess IMO. This premise had potential too especially with someone as talented as Jordan Peele being involved but this barely felt like it had any of his touches at all which is probably the case.

Marlon Wayans was easily the best part of the movie and is by far the most interesting character in the movie and I honestly wish he was the lead instead of Tyriq Withers who hasn't impressed me yet in anything he's been in outside of Atlanta.

There was some fun gory stuff that happened towards the end but by then it was a little too late IMO and I don't know what happened to Julia Fox's acting after Uncut Gems but she was pretty awful in this too.

Kate Hudson and Elizabeth Moss made this worth watching but this didn't really come together for me in the end. It's basically a lesser version of The Substance but not quite as clever or satisfying. I do think Max Minghella has potential as a director though and I definitely want to see more from him.

A really well made Irish folk horror film. I wanted a bit more from the horror elements but in terms of acting, directing, sound design and atmosphere this is pretty great. I just wish we got to see more stuff onscreen which you will understand more after you watch it.

The Public Cemetery Under the Moon (1967)

A good-natured woman dies after being tormented by a group of jealous, plotting villains and returns as a vengeful ghost. Yes, it's a classic East Asian horror setup, and The Public Cemetery Under the Moon (rolls off the tongue, eh?) doesn't exactly reinvent the wheel. It is rather nice visually, though, with its candy-coated color palette, eye-catching theatrical sets, and beautiful costumes.

The actual haunting is a bit ridiculous. The avenging phantom mostly sticks to staring at people and laughing, while her victims run around aimlessly and scream. This is rinsed and repeated to the point of absurdity, and edited into a coke-hazed, Indian soap-opera-lite nonsense. Still, it’s an entertaining conclusion to the film — like a Korean B-movie version of Monty Python.

Moonlight Sonata 2: The Street Sweepers (1991)

elonet-elokuva-131118.jpg

The Street Sweepers is an incredibly rare breed: a Finnish horror sequel. Well, more of a comedy-horror this time, complete with an absurd voice-over, unhinged tone, and an entirely unpredictable story. Long-decaying corpses are brought back to life through the power of sauna; soldiers from the Finnish Red Guards resurrect from a swamp while the narrator performs a rap song. It’s wild — and occasionally, very funny. Occasionally.

Have to say, those people seemed pretty calm walking around before the start of the werewolf apocalypse. Liked it, wish I loved it since its such a fun concept. Felt like a long lost Syfy channel gem from the 2000s.

Watched the OG Nightmare on Elm Street to start that marathon. Unlike the sequels, I'm no stranger to this one. Still a classic and I'm never not amused that the doctor who oversees Nancy's sleep test is the voice of Roger Rabbit.

I can't wait to see how you react to 2. That one's interesting.
