82nd Annual Academy Awards

If he makes another critical masterpiece, I think Lee Daniels will be back and be the first African American director to win......can't think of anyone else who might be the first.

:csad:

I'm just glad RDJ wasnt nominated for Sherlock Holmes again. For the life of me, I cant figure out how he won at the globes.

lol. What about the rest?

Did anyone here even see An Education? or A Serious Man? Precious?

Yeah i saw them too.

An education was pretty good. But a Serious man was an extreme Bore. I don't know why it was even nominated.

I plan to. I am actually upset that the only BP films I saw were Avatar and Inglorious Basterds

This is an incredibly stupid statement.
Where talking about the subjective here.

Your response is equally stupid if not more so.

The Hurt Locker is Jarhead with more suspense. IMO. It's terribly overpraised.

I bet only, like 8% of the population has seen The Hurt Locker.

*raises hand*

Well, not A Serious Man, but the other two. And I still think the right movie won Best Picture. That said, Gabby Sidibe or Carey Mulligan deserved Best Actress. Sorry Sandra, loved your speech though. :oldrazz:

These were pretty boring Oscars, imo, but that kind of reflects my opinion of the movies of 2009 as a whole. The last couple years were much better. The only things that made me really happy were the wins for Bigelow and THL. And Up. And I can't believe they ditched the performances of the Original Songs nominees in favor of interpretive dances to the Original Score nominees. WTF.

One of my family members got a bootleg copy of Precious. I catch some it, but gained Punisher-esque thoughts regarding deranged folks throwing newborn babies to the ground.

Cameron was magnanimous at the Golden Globes win..he said he thought Kathryn should have won.

Overall, the ceremony was a snore fest. Sandra Bullock being the worst part, but THL winning made up for it all.

I saw all the noms except UP, I thought Precious might have sneaked, An Education was good but the only Oscar worthy thing about it was Carey Mulligan's performance IMO.

Precious was ok.. it was a little to much for me...

Yeah, it's a pet peeve of mine how every year, we get a bunch of people who perceive themselves in having such a high stake in who wins or loses at these awards where these people have seen only four movies the entire year. :p

I mean, I'm not trying to take anything away from those people, but I just find it a little annoying.

I have A Serious Man and The Blind Side, but I haven't watched them yet. I plan on seeing An Education as well, but I've seen all the rest.

Im glad avatar didnt win now it can finally fall into its catagory as a scifi epic and not an oscar worthy movie.

ive seen it, its pretty good.

I was hoping for a split between best pic and best director but meh i guess it wasnt gonna happen.

I agree to an extent. I've seen 7 out of the 10 BP nominees, including The Hurt Locker. I thought THL was great, but not necessarily the greatest movie of 2009 or if so, not by far. Maybe it'll take a second viewing in order to confirm my opinions about the film.

Wow! What an Academy Awards! I am so happy that Sandra Bullock won! And I know this is probably sacrilege on a comic books website but...

I am also thrilled that The Hurt Locker won Director AND Best Picture!!

I'm glad they awarded a truly excellent film for a change.
For a change? Let's look at the last three years. "The Departed", "No Country For Old Men" and "Slumdog Millionaire" were all excellent films that were justly awarded. "Hurt Locker" was good as well, though I personally felt that "Inglourious Basterds" was more deserving.

At the last minute I found myself rooting for Inglorious Basterds but Hurt Locker was a good choice.
