Various Oscar thoughts:
-As expected, I like Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin a lot as hosts.
-Ben Stiller and Tyler Perry were the most entertaining presenters.
-Jeff Bridges gave the most entertaining acceptance speech.
-The only win that surprised me was Precious beating Up in the Air for Adapted Screenplay. I haven't seen Precious, but it's going to be hard pressed to top Up in the Air in my mind.
-As good as The Hurt Locker is, I think Inglourious Basterds was a bit better. I would at least have given it Original Screenplay.
-Fantastic Mr. Fox should have won Animated Feature over Up. Up is a worthy winner and Pixar is terrific, but Fantastic Mr. Fox stood out to me more.
-I liked how they explained some of the technical categories.
-But I couldn't help myself from thinking they must have wanted to make a point by using The Dark Knight as an example.
-The tribute to the horror genre was a nice gesture, but some of the movies in the montage didn't help the genre's case. Even if the Oscars were retroactively more open to horror, I doubt many of the movies shown would be good enough to get any nominations.
-I was shocked that Michael Jackson wasn't the last person shown on the In Memoriam montage.
