It doesn't surprise me that DiCaprio didn't get nominated. He was great, but Waltz was even better and got the Django votes. They could have nominated both, but you also have Samuel L Jackson there stealing votes from DiCaprio as well. It is difficult for several nominees from the same film in the stacked male acting categories. There usually aren't as many good female roles, so it seems to happen more often in the actress categories.

If I had the awards my way I would've easily put in The Grey as best pic, best actor, and some of the tech awards.

Everyone in Hollywood when Quvenzhane Wallis was nominated: "Crap. Now we have to learn how to pronounce her name."

Get Arnold Schwarzenegger to present the actress category. The potential entertainment value alone with send ratings sky high.

Lol. I haven't seen the film yet but my sister liked it.

Honestly I didn't think Denzel or Pheonix would get best actor noms and I totally didn't think a 9 year old would but good for her. I hope she loses because 9 is too young to win an Oscar, it would kill her career before it gets started.

They should just give Leo some kind of lifetime thing and get it out the way. I'm actually starting to become kind of embarrassed about him not having one yet.

Boy do you have a man crush...

Leo isn't even 40 yet, he will win one but Django was never going to be the movie that got him a tiny naked gold man. Hold your horses man.

I wouldn't call Django Oscar bait

Sky fall cinematography = awesome.
Avengers effects = oh yeah!
Snow white and the huntsman short documentary = hilarious ABC news goof.

His two best chances IMO would have been Shutter Island and/or Catch Me if You Can. Those were IMO his best dramatic performances. Inception is up there, but had it not came out the same year as Shutter Island, I'd have it there.

Well as much as I know this site is upset, Skyfall, TDKR and ESPECIALLY The Hobbit not getting BP noms was always obvious. Though I do admit that I'm surprised that TDKR got completely shut out.

The only big surprise is that not only Tarantino and Hooper, but AFFLECK and BIGELOW got snubbed for Best Director. It's pretty clear that the politicization of Zero Dark Thirty by its policy critics has done the job and taken what likely would have won BP a month ago out of the running. Looks like it's Lincoln's all the way now. Not that is a bad thing, as I really liked that movie.

All of you are forgetting the Aviator, one of his best performances.

No Best Director for Katheryn Bigelow? Well there goes ZDT winning BP.

If anyone thought Skyfall, TDKR, The Hobbit or Avengers was going to get a BP nod then I think they need to log off this site and go outside into the real world.

Same here with Lincoln. I haven't seen Argo, Life of Pi, Amour, or Beast yet, but of the 5 I have seen, Lincoln was the best and most well done of all of them, though I really enjoy SLP as much.

I'm surprised by some of the hate you guys are giving to Silver Linings Playbook. So far, that's my favorite film of 2012. I'm glad it got nominations for Best Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, and all the main cast members.

By the way, is anyone else amused that Seth MacFarlane is now an Oscar nominee? His song for Ted got nominated. lol.

It's my second favorite of the year. I agree the hate is surprising. But Cooper is another threat to Jackman for the Les Mis crowd and the movie is sentimental without having a built-in musical or superhero fanbase. ;)

I also kind of think Ted should have been nominated for best SFX. Certainly over Snow White. Then again, I am still surprised the last Batman got snubbed there.

It seems the upsets are coming from the Skyfall and TDKR camps, I haven't seen one poster make mention of the Hobbit's perceived snub.

I haven't seen it yet, but I've heard nothing but good things about Cooper and the film. Try having a little faith in these crowds you dismiss. :cwink:

When you mentioned it it blew my mind that it didnt get the SFX nom.

I am surprised at the hate too. Bradley Cooper was excellent in it and I felt that he deserved a nomination, but wasn't going to get it because it was crowded year.

I'm glad that he did because because his performance was amazing. He played a guy who was funny at times (more of the time unintentionally), but also a guy who despite trying to find the "Silver Linings" in his life, felt helpless to his Bi-Polar Disorder. At the same time you couldn't help but cheer for the guy to win his ex-wife (and then later Jennifer Lawrence).
