Exactly. I see no reason why these jobs could not be filled by people here now - if the employers were paying more than $5.50 [or whatever] an hour.

They like illegals because they have to pay no benefits on 'em, and they're forced to keep their mouths shut on safety issues for fear of deportation - an employer's dream employee, in fact. That's exploitation, so we should be nailing these exploiting companies to that aforementioned wall as well. Exploitation isn't a positive concept.

and by the way.. Mexico do not gives pamplets to travel to the US safetly, those are pamplets to survive in the desert. You know why Europe has less teen pregancy than the States? Because they give condoms instead of saying "don't have sex".

My thoughts exaclty - make it a 15 year time set - and they have to prove they have been here for 15 years. That will eliminate most of the illegal immigrants in America - yet still fare to those who have established families here and have kept their noses clean.

We're not discussing South American illegal immigrants; we're discussing Mexican illegals. Total non-sequiter with the north-south American map. And riddle me this: if all Mexicans are "Americans," why are we having this problem? You know why: you're intentionally twisting the argument. We are not talking about what countries are on the same tectonic plate, and you know we're not. We're discussing a man-made border.

All Mexicans preferring not to risk dangerous crossings of hostile areas of desert can take the bold step of staying in their own country, where they actually hold citizenship. I feel little tenderness for outlaws and desperados and ne'er-do-wells breaking the law and then paying the price. Cross the border once, its a misdemeanor, If you cross the border twice, its a felony. Both deal with Federal Law - making both crimes.
