A gamer's worst nightmare - Cancelled Video Games

I remember a Spider-Man game was supposed to come out around 2005 called "Spider-Man Classic". We never figured out what the game was about at all, and the only thing that was released about it was the name. Does anyone remember this? Maybe I'm confusing it with something else.

WHAT!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! what console was this gonna be for????? :wow:

I remember following the news for this. Even though it was codenamed that, it was never canceled. It just turned into Ultimate Spider-Man.

Basically Activision revealed that it was releasing a new Spidey game and they were just calling it Spider-Man Classic for the time being. Then months later they announce Ultimate Spider-Man and don't even mention Classic. Initially people think there's 2 games coming out, but after years go by, there's no word on it. That's because it never died, it just turned into USM, so naturally people would be confused. But it would have been nice for them to at least say something about it. :oldrazz:

Here's the only article on it. The following one announces USM.

The White Council was another one that sounded pretty awesome. Any excuse to play as Gandalf in a game is a good excuse.

It wasn't so much a cancellation as much as complete shift in what the game is and was going to play like.
Back when Dark Sector was first announced, it was going to a be like a Splinter Cell set in space, then they shifted it to whatever it is now (crap), and the game pretty much bombed.

Police Academy(the cartoon) for the Nes. I saw an add for it on a comic and it stuck with me. FOREVER.

There aren't many canceled games that I remember but the Daredevil game from 2004 looked pretty cool.

DC's Lobo was supposed to be released on PS2 and Xbox in 2004. But got cancelled.

No one likes to see video games being cancelled.
Sure, some are for the best, they are awful or totally generic, but there are some that makes us all cry a little inside.
So, this thread is to a tribute to those video games, the ones that got the plug pulled, be it good or bad...let´s start with one of the most recent of all:

Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned
Developer: Propaganda Games
Publisher: Disney Interactive Studios

Yes, Propaganda Games is no more, Disney closed them after Tron: Evolution, it was the first developer to close doors in 2011.
It was a really stupid decision by Disney, as they don´t have a lot a great developers, the other two being Junction Point (Warren Spector) and Black Rock Studios (Pure and Split Second).
Propaganda were starting to work on Turok 2, it was cancelled or put on hold for them to being POTC and then it was cancelled for Tron: Evolution....and then they were closed, i don´t get this stupid decisions.
But back on the cancelled game

I hope that Disney reconsiders, the Pirates of the Caribbean universe is an amazing one for video games, besides, for all i know, the game was almost done.
It´s a mix of Pirates (duh), horror, action adventure, supernatural...with a touch of saturday morning cartoons like ThunderCats and Masters of the Universe.

It looked very Fable like, but that is not a bad thing...

Propaganda Games wasn't a good developer. Turok was mediocre and Tron: Legacy was mediocre. Why keep a mediocre studio around?

I've got two others: Demonik and Oddworld: The Ballad of Fangus Klott (surprised the last one was never mentioned until now). I have a 5-6 disk DVD that covered E3 2005, and it has a developer walkthrough of gameplay from Demonik. What happened to it? It looked kinda cool!

As for Oddworld Fangus, it was canceled because Oddworld Inhabitants wanted to go into the film-making business with a movie called Citizen Siege they were cooking up that also sounded cool. It's never come out since the announcement...

Frame City Killer seemed like it was gonna be pretty promising, open world and it had sort of a Matrix feel to it, too bad it got shelved

aww man yea, I was really lookin forward to that. I still have 2 promo pins and a worn out shirt with the logo hahah

Ah, I see. Thanks for helping me out.

The Untitled Indiana Jones for 360 & PS3 being moved to Wii really sucked.

Sure, but then again, Turok was their first game and Tron was a movie tie-in which more times than not are horrible to begin with.
By the way, i didn´t played either, except the Turok demo on the 360 back in 08.

Project Offset cancellation was a kinife in my heart, the game looked amazing.
Why in hell did Intel bought the dev team?
Intel is not a game publisher, so, it never made sense....after that, the cancellation was a given.

The White Council was another one that sounded pretty awesome. Any excuse to play as Gandalf in a game is a good excuse.
That game will never see the light of day, now that the LOTR video game rights are not with EA but with Warner, which owns all Tolkien´s work.
But, there is a new LOTR video game coming out this year, made by Snowblind, Lord of the Rings: War in the North.
Looks very good, and Snowblind (Baldur´s Gate: Dark Alliance, Champions of Norrath) is a good developer

Elveon

It was being made by 10Tacle Studios, but then they went bankrupt. There was another studio that picked the game, Climax Studios, but with the lack of info, the most certain fate is the game has been cancelled

Resident Evil 1.5, a prototype of Resident Evil 2

At least that allowed me to have one of my top five games of all time

X-Women: The Sinister Virus, the sequel to X-men 2 on the Sega Genesis. It would be the 3rd game in the series and focus on an all female cast with Storm, Jean and Rogue being playable. The trailer made it to YT and it actually looked good

I know I was probably one of the few looking forward to it, but I wish that they never cancelled the Marvel Fighting game EA had coming out. It looked awesome.

Also Beyond Good and Evil 2...stupid Ubisoft. :(
