So is supposed that Joker kills the bank director finally using the gas grenade?

I don't think the Bank Manager dies, but as far as I know thats his only appearance in the movie.

I always presumed the Joker wanted the guy to expect being blown up any second but instead it was just a smoke grenade?

In my opinion the point of this action was to show that the Joker has some twisted kind of humour.

it was just a trick grenade, smoke grenades can still kill people in real life if they are that close to you, same with flash bangs.

That's what she said!

lol--People are just getting too excited about this film.

When I first saw it I thought that the gas might leave a smile on the faces of the bank manager and the tellers. But then I suppose they would drop their grenades and the bank would blow up.

I though he looked like he was smoking a Cuban.

Yeah I dont get that. I think it was just supposed to be a trick grenade to scare him, but they still dont explain that enough for the audience to know. A lot of people I saw didnt get it. I dont know why they didnt just have a BANG flag pop out, that wouldve been a nod to fans alike and a more obvious way of showing the trick

For godssakes... it's not that hard to get. :whatever:

I mean, most people will get it and if you don't, you're either dumb or not paying enough attention. Either way, it's not gonna ruin the movie for you.

WELL SAID

The bank manager was shot, I think, and that's probably why he didn't just pull out the grenade.

It's just a gag grenade to scare the guy and show joker's humor, like mentioned above. It's obvious when the guy lets out a moan and eye roll which should tell the audience 'Oh it was a gag grenade.'

You get your first clue as to why he can't pull out the grenade when he first speaks to Joker, as the last thug is killed. If you watch the bank manager, he's struggling along the ground, and he can't move his arm. It's hard to imply without blood (I suppose that would have upped the rating to R? Don't know), but I guess the idea is that Joker shot him in the arm, or somehow his arm became broken/otherwise useless, and that's why he can't reach up to pull out the grenade.

Secondly, there's a pause between when the pin is pulled and the smoke comes out. When the smoke finally DOES come out, I think the manager's drained sigh of relief is enough to tell the audience it was a bit of a "gag" grenade. For a second, the audience is expecting an explosion, and it doesn't happen.

i've got a question about the Prologue. Has the part where Joker takes of his mask been re-shot since the Prologue. Reason i ask as when i watch it, Joker's paint looks alot fainter and he look more like beetlejuice.

Yet in the images like this there's seems like more colour with the mouth. It may be just me

He didn't kill the Manager because hes like the card he left in the other robbery that occurred at the end of Begins. He showed his face to the manager so that he can tell the cops and the mob people that it was the Joker himself that robbed the bank.

I just got a laugh from coming in here, though I did wonder the same thing like 4 months ago.

I always thought it was a fear-gas nod back to "Batman Begins". I thought that this would tie in with Scarecrow being in the beginning, and that there'd be an interesting story there before the main plot began.

But, who knows... maybe it's just harmless gas to make him scarred, then relieved, then mad. :oldrazz:

I was about to say the same thing he wants him to past the word along.

I just thought it was him living up to his philosophy of what doesn't kill simply makes you stranger and the bank manager was left feeling a bit stranger after that moment.

Word.

There is such a thing as being `frozen in fear`...Its easy to say now with a balanced set of emotions that you would just pull out the grenade if in that situation but subconciously we`re all just really kidding ourselves. And lets not forget the fact that it wasnt scary enough for the bank manager to have a grenage shoved in his mouth but the masked clown took him out of great surprise once the joker showed his face...clearly nothing what he was expecting and we would all ***** our pants too

I thought it was one of those laughing gas grenades Joker always uses; it could very well be a smoke to show off the Joker's "comedic" side like some of you have already mentioned.

i thought the joker didnt want to kill him because he says "i believe what doesnt kill you, simply makes you...stranger" so he put a fake grenade in his mouth to scare the crap out of the bank manager....i think they meant to do it this way to show that the joker is a pretty sick individual and also that he can be funny and play tricks on people too

There's nothing special about the gas. The bank manager was frozen in fear thinking he just had an explosive about to go off in his mouth, cue tense camera shot moving in, and it turned out to be a sick joke by none other than . . . the Joker. Case closed.
