Comics Aaaaaaaand the person to bite it is... (Mashoosive spoiler for ASM 538)

What happened was the stuff that made me wanna read the books is slowly bein' stripped away. The books I look forward to now? All the ones that're old school like Spider-Girl or the all-ages stuff where the books really ARE fun. If this is the future of comics, you can have it. I'll live in backissue bins happily.

Yes.
And good luck, I don't think you have much chance unless your store holds it back, but then they will be selling it for like 20 bucks.
Try $50...

I might have thought about it because of the art... but I'm so DONE with this Civil War nonsense I hate to spend another penny on it.

I have to agree with you Wolvie25th...

I mean, ya I've been reading Spidey and basically marvel for what, about 17 years now and I'd have to say that only the last few years have been pure **** for me. I enjoyed the Clone Saga, etc. Only when they first tried to kill off MJ and then Byrne's run was I starting to get a bit peeved, but it seemed to get better again. I mean, it seems to me that the only time I really found reading Spider-Man to be more of a chore than a pleasure was when specific editors and writers decided it was time for MAJOR LIFE CHANGING EVENTS THAT WILL ROCK THE MARVEL UNIVERSE TO ITS CORE!

Take Infinity Gauntlet for example. THAT is one of the greatest Marvel Universe Events ever, imo. So was Age of Apocolypse. Even Onslaught was pretty cool. But those events were FUN. They were interesting. And most importantly, they did NOT break the true characterizations of the heroes and villains within. Everyone was written, for the most part, as true to their established characterizations.

When JMS first came aboard and started the mystical totem storyline, I thought, "OK, I'll get on board with this and see where it goes, it sounds interesting and new." But, quite frankly, I feel he completely ****ed it all up. Instead of keeping the mystical stuff ambiguous, he decided to cement it within Spider-Man lore, which was a mistake, imo. And then Sins Past, then New Avengers, then Civil War, and whatever hell there is to come.

I'm all for great storylines that showcase the strengths and weaknesses of the characters I love so much. I'm NOT in favor of change for no reason, there is no reason whatsoever to try and bring the Marvel Universe into "reality" by trying to explain to us how it would "really" be if we had super powered individuals running around. We all KNOW how it would be. And guess what? It's BORING. Goverments and laws and regulations and registrations, etc. are BORING in the world of comics. I don't want to read about that, I wanna read about the FANTASY of a comic book world. When I want to read about beurocratic nonsense, I'll open the newspaper.

Marvel has taken the best thing about comic books and stripped away their entire universe of fantasy and fun of it all in order to make it "realistic". It's a comic book, it's not supposed to be realistic. If this nonsense was happening when I was 12 years old, i never would have bothered getting into comics in the first place, because it is BORING.

Anyhow, went a little longer than I wanted to, sorry.:o

my sentiments entirely USMC:ninja:

Sounds exciting to ME.

She gets shot, but doesnt nescessarily die. There was a preview of Spidey clinging to the side of a speeding ambulance, which begs a few possible scenarios;

Will she be taken into custody at the hospital? (provivded she survives)...im sure there's some sort of law against being on the lam with a wanted felon.

Will Peter smash his way into Ryker's to go after Kingpin?

If she is arrested, will Peter try and see her and have to battle some old friends and allies to do so?

Personally, i cant wait to see what happens...
I have to agree... there is potential here. And I was glad to see her holding her side and not her chest, which means (I hope) that the wound will not likely be fatal. I don't want May to die.

But it still REALLY complicates Peter's life... Does May check into the hospital anonomously, and if not, won't that mean her life is still in danger? Peter can't just walk in and see her. Does MJ go with her and expose herself too? Shouldn't MJ go into deeper hiding and won't that mean being apart from Peter? COULD be interesting.

I'm just so glad the CW is over. Seriously. Not only did the CONVOLUTED POLITICS get on my last nerve, I'm a Spider-Man fan, not a "Marvel Universe" fan. He had to share the stage with WAY too many characters who I could care less about. In fact, having so MANY "costumes" running around just looked downright goofy to me.

As for how it ended... Cap said to the citizens trying to hold him back, "I don't want to hurt you." And they answered, "Too late." As the city was in shambles around them... And with that he snapped to, and surrendered. I guess that made sense. What was he going to do? Kill Tony? Get the law repealled by taking out everyone who voted for it? There was no good way for it to end...

I guess the ending wasn't too bad in my opinion. Yes, it kinda made sense for Cap to stop. Can't complain a lot.

But, the thing is...Cap and the others could've technically "gave up peacefully and fought no more" EARLIER in the series at any other point during Civil War....so while it made sense per say....it was also anti-climatic too and could've saved us from reading all 7 issues...he coulda paused and surveyed the scene in issue two and stopped the fighting then, for instance.

I dunno if i stated that clearly, but i know what i mean.

The series was good, kinda, but it also portrayed a lot of people out of character....imo...namely Spidey (my favorite hero) but others too though...so looking back at this, i am not sure if it was really a good read or not. I am torn, and I haven't fully decided the level that i liked this or not. I am not sure how i'll feel about it in years from now, if people will look back at it fondly or if it will be considered rubbish.

And I might add...Spidey in the last issue kicking a little bit of butt (finally) doesn't redeem how poorly out of character he was forced to be in other issues to make this story "tick".

I wish comics could be as fun as they used to be...but imo, many just aren't written as well nor are the characters as respected as the "olden days". Some comics are enjoyable, but i think it MAYBE is that the writers are crapping on characterization/continuity of LONG TIME HEROES who've been around for so long, that makes it a little alienating for some of us long time fans of those characters. Big sweeping change or shocking character events for the sake of a SERIES SALES EVENT just aren't fun to me. Maybe if i were 10 again they would be. I dunno.

I think this may have been the only major battle in the entire "Civil War" where there were actually civilians in danger. If nothing else, I think it was the first one where Cap was present.

If he didn't there is no way that loser Captain America would have laid a finger on Iron Man.

****. :o

So I read it... I hate foreshadowing, I really do.

"Just let him come home safe, god. I'll do anything, give up anything, if you'll just.. let him come home. Please. I'll give up anything. Anything. Anything."

Yeah, if there's one writer who lacks any degree of subtlety more than Mark Millar, it's JMS. Seriously, his whole "War at Home" arc was even more ham-fisted than the main series.

I dont think that was forshadowing, i think it was just basically teasing us with the possibility that MJ might get shot, but no it was May so...

Exactly. It was misdirection. They kept putting MJ in the crosshairs, teasing us with that possiblity, so the ending would have more impact.

I'm talking about down the line. JMS is well know for having characters say something seemingly meaningless, then down the line brings it back.

I don't know why, but I couldn't shake the feeling May getting shot was a red herring. Like it wasn't her blood on her chest. I need to go check the pic again. It looked like Peter clearly got MJ out of the way..but something doesn't seem right. I don't think May is going to die.

Its like you're psychic or something.
I have some faith in New avengers storylines after reading #27 though. I find it ironic that the Bendis of today is keeping superhero storys like they were in the old days. I also think Spidermans back in black story arc will be good aswell.
So, those are 4 comics I have hope for atleast.

Youre on LSD.

I mean May isnt going to die. She's in a future issue of Sensational Spider-Man after all is said and done but uhm...she did get shot.

How can an old lady like Aunt May take a bullet AND survive it? Come one!!!

Will Peter smash his way into Ryker's to go after Kingpin?

...

Well we know that won't happen since
Matt got Kingpin released and had his citizenship taken away

...but I think it does add a pretty nice wrinkle to a potential story in which
spidey goes against Daredevil for having the man who killed..or at least shot...his Aunt May, released

Uhm Old people get shot. They survive. It happens. Besides. It's a comic book.

May isn't going to die. Get over it.

Guys,

sorry for the stupid question but did 538 actually come out? My store didn't have it. Thanks
