ABC's Once Upon a Time - Part 8

Frozen was one of the few arcs that they actually treated with care for obvious reasons.

Not really. The Frozen story-arc wouldn't even be in the show if the bosses of Disney didn't call up the writers to milk the popularity of Frozen by putting Elsa and company in the show. And for the most of season 3A, they were already teasing Merlin's hat, the author - the Frozen story-arc was pretty much treated as a side story.

Like the midseason finale of season 4, most of it was finding the author of the book and Rumplestiltskin's thing with Merlin's hat. I was kinda turned off by how quickly they were already moving on to the next story-arc when Elsa and company were just about to leave Storybrooke.

Probably because Once upon a Time in Wonderland didn't work out to well.
That could have and they admitted to their major fault of not sticking to their original plan to have it fill in for OUAT. Although there were other problems too. I just couldn't find the interest in it myself after watching four or five episodes.

Nothing says it couldn't work as a miniseries but in this instance it certainly didn't.

I'm actually a little irritated with it. I like the show, but they really need to abandon status quo, rather than take a nice little vacation from it for awhile before coming right back. End of last season, Rumple was no longer the Dark One, and Emma had taken the mantle. Now? [blackout]Everyone is back to where they started[/blackout]! Now, [blackout]Hook is dead[/blackout]. Guess who will be alive again by the season finale!

I want a real, fundamental change in the series. When we started off, there was the dichotomy between the fairy tale characters we thought we knew and how they are in the real world. It was an exploration of the unknown. But now that exploration is gone. We get it. We know who they all are, in both realms. Shake it up. Have magic escape Storybrooke and see how the world outside copes. Make the worlds collide. I want a dragon atop the Empire State Building. I want trolls in Central Park. And then I want them to jump forward. Show the melting pot of a whole world with magic. Shake up the Charmings. We get their deal already. They're vanilla, but they've done some bad s***. Make them do more bad s*** and actually cause a real fracture between them. Have Zelena curse Regina. And not a "Oh, I've taken your memories of the last two weeks" curse. Take her f***ing life and make her someone else entirely. Then this chick that acts like she knows the error of her ways can ACTUALLY know the error of her ways. Humble her. Rumpelstiltskin? Make him Hades' b****. He's proven tonight that he'll never really change, so make him suffer for it.

In the post-Breaking Bad world, I just can't abide by keeping things this much the same. They changed up the series once by giving everyone their memories back and bringing magic to Storybrooke, and they've pretended to change things up again by making Emma the Dark One. Take it one step further. Hell, take it TEN steps further.

..... all that said, pretty good one tonight. That s*** with Rumple just set me off.

I gotta agree... the best thing this show could do would have been..

1) Turn Emma into the "Light One" make her full on white wizard basically... for slaying the darkness

2) Kill off Rumple, or have him changed for good

Clarification request : is Rumple back to his old self or he is a good Dark One now ?

Liked it when Emma had her costume change to her 'hero' outfit.

Was a bit disappointed in Rumple being the dark one again... It was like really? Try something new. Was hoping they actually got rid of the darkness which would have been great. But nope. Boring Rumple double crossed and lied...again.

Wonder if the fact Emma can hear the dagger will have any sort of further development.

I did like Emma as the dark one, it was different as she wasn't truly evil like the others. But now it's gone back to the same old story.

the last half of Wonderland actually turned out to be quite decent... i ended up preferring it to the Neverland Arc of Once

He's just Rumple. A power-hungry, lying coward. At no point has the character ever evolved for more than a handful of episodes... after which he immediately reverts back to his default self.

If the show wanted to surprise people, Rumple's "just the kind of man I am" statement would actually permanently cement the character as an all-out villain to be battled going forward.

But, instead, the show's inevitably going to have him go right back down the "who am I?" and "can I be better?" cliches this spring.

It was and I'm upset that it never came out on Dvd/Blu Ray

Rumple is all they have now that the Evil Queen is no longer evil and just Regina, the mayor of Storybrooke.

Thanks.
Edit.
So, I must understand that all the things that happened to Rumple and changed him to a better man are for nothing ? Are we certain of that ? I can't believe he learned nothing.

Wow, just wow, the show is literally going down to hell creatively:

- Rumpelstiltskin, the supposed villain-turned-hero that was able to pull Excalibur out of the stone because he was a hero, jumped at the first opportunity to become the Dark One again. :whatever:

- Belle didn't want to be with Rumple and was going to protect her heart and live her life blah blah blah... now she wants to be with him for the umpteenth time and there goes her self-esteem... again! :cmad:

They have destroyed both characters, instead of Rumple changing for good this time and Belle living her life, they had to go back to the same old crap.

- Hook's sacrifice because... the producers don't want to face the rage of some shippers.

- Emma taking Henry to hell. WTF! No responsible parent would do that, it's just awful what they're doing with the characters.

It's unbelievable that everyone was totally ok with tromping off to hell to save Hook, that no one was the voice of reason saying maybe Emma should just let him go, he tried to kill them afterall, she deserves someone better. It would've worked better if Emma was the one who sacrificed herself, then it would've made more sense for them to go to hell, with Snow and Henry staying in Storybrooke of course. Obviously, TPTB are doing this so the main characters have something to do, but they're doing it at the expense of simple logic and the characters.

truth be told.. if they weren't taking Henry to hell.. he would have sought out a way to make himself go there and join them at this point...

The thing that is most upsetting is that there is NO reason why this show should be so strained and repetitive creatively, after this season Im probably done.

well i wouldn't go to the far extreme and say it's done.. for its ratings arn't really hurting or putting it in the danger zone

No one will probably step up to be the voice of reason until after they get to Hell.

Emma wouldn't been able to stop him anyway. Plus Hook now is pretty much a Father Figure to him since Neal is dead

So how long will the main cast be spending in the Underworld when the show comes back?

Hm, was Rumplestilskin really that much of a surprise? Initially yes, but what do you expect from this character.
When we have learned anything in those 5 seasons, then its that he lies and tricks.

Yup, belles character is really a mess by now.

Belles character is really damaged, but Rumplestilskin is basicly the same as always.

Hooks sacrifice....maybe, just maybe its called storytelling.
Maybe the writers wanted to do a underworld story and that was the way?
Not really seeing how this has anything to do with shippers...but okay.

Because Henry wouldnt have found a different way to follow them right?

Its totally okay for them because each of them would do the same.
Logic...in a fantasy tv show...okay.

Im guessing the whole season half will be focused on the underworld and them finding a way out again.
While im excited for the second season half, im even more excited for what comes after that...so many possible arcs.

Well you guys are going to laugh at this
It’s clear that Rumple and Belle rekindled their relationship. Are you considering writing in Emilie de Ravin’s pregnancy now?
Kitsis: I would say it certainly looked like they re-consummated their marriage, so we’ll just have to wait and see, but I would say you’re definitely on the right clue trail.
Looks like we may have a Rumbelle baby. :sly:

Can't wait to see how they try to redeem Rumple again next season.

In retrospect I can see the Henry thing. The kid's role models are literally all fairy tale heroes. He is destined to follow their path so probably better he goes along with them instead of sneaking off on his own and maybe getting trapped in Hades permanently (ie; dies).
