Very happy to see whale, mulan and ruby again. It also appears ruby and mulan are going to be paired up as the "exploring a same sex relationship " and i approve!

And people already have their shipper name picked out: Mulan Rouge.

I burst out laughing at the sight of "Hercules" not a good sign. What are the casting people smoking?

Ahhh a message board poster insisting they know more the professional casting directors.

That's always cute. :o

Cute is what women will say about that guy. He looks more like my 15 year old nephew than any Hercules I have ever seen or imagined.

The last time I LOLed at the picture of an actor was at Miles Teller in the FF poster. We all know how that turned out. :woot:

Yes, because the Hercules from the Disney movie, which they base most of their stuff on, was always huge. Oh wait.

Didn't watch it and glad of it. Hercules is one of the worlds great myths/legends and perhaps the first superhero. Expectations should be higher and are in my case.

and one of my absolute favorite disney films.. it butchers the myth, but it's a hell of alot of fun. you're missing out

Disney's Hercules.

actually... she's rooted in the myth of hercules too...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megara_(mythology)

In Greek mythology, Megara (/ˈmɛɡərə/; Greek: Μεγάρα) was the oldest daughter of Creon, king of Thebes. In reward for Heracles' defending Thebes from the Minyans at Orchomenus in single-handed, Creon offered his daughter Megara to Heracles,[1] and he brought her home to the house of Amphitryon.[2] She bore him a son and a daughter,[3] whom Heracles killed when Hera struck him with temporary madness; in their hero-tombs in Thebes they were venerated as the Chalkoarai.[4] In some sources Heracles slew Megara too,[5] in others, she was given to Iolaus when Heracles left Thebes forever. She was mother of Leipephilene by Iolaus.[6]
In some traditions, in order to atone his guilt, he was forced to perform the Twelve Labours, but in Euripides' tragedy, Heracles' return from his encounter with Cerberus in Hades begins the agon.

so this really screws with your brain if you were a big fan of Hercules the Incredble Journey's and the Disney movie... one myth says he slaughtered meg and his children.. and in others he was given to his young sexual partner Iolaus...

In HtIJ she was known as Deianira, another wife of hercules (who came after Megara and his 12 labors), Deianira was the one who accidentally killed hercules in myth, but played Meg's role on the show

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deianira

The central story about Deianira concerns the Tunic of Nessus. A wild centaur named Nessus attempted to kidnap or rape Deianira as he was ferrying her across the river Euenos, but she was rescued by Heracles, who shot the centaur with a poisoned arrow. As he lay dying, Nessus persuaded Deianira to take a sample of his blood, telling her that a potion of it mixed with olive oil would ensure that Heracles would never again be unfaithful.
Deianira believed his words and kept a little of the potion by her. Heracles fathered illegitimate children all across Greece and then fell in love with Iole (also called Omphale). When Deianira thus feared that her husband would leave her forever, she smeared some of the blood on Heracles' famous lionskin shirt. Heracles' servant, Lichas, brought him the shirt and he put it on. The centaur's toxic blood burned Heracles terribly, and eventually, he threw himself into a funeral pyre. In despair, Deianira committed suicide by hanging herself or with a sword.

well... to be fair, herc did start out as a scrawny teen...

Yes but in every live action Hercules I have seen they fast forward through the whole childhood/teen years. And I like the myth. If only the film with the Rock had done that and made his labors and monster battles the heart of the movie it could have been awesome.

It is nice that they have made Snow and Charming much more than their source material but do they really have to make legendary heroes like Robin hood, King Arthur and now Hercules so much less?

Someone on Tumblr brought up something interesting I hadn't thought about...

BUT WHAT IF IT WASN’T EMMA???

looks like you missed out on Ryan Gosling :hrt:

.... what the hell kind of source material are you basing Snow and Charming on? Snow and Charming in the original source material were no where near as heroic as the show's versions...

You need to read my post again. I said Snow and Charming were much more on the show than in the source material.

well.... you have to throw source material out the window... because no one is 100% accurate..

it's kinda too late to critique a show that's been doing it for now 5 seasons... they are creating their own history and stories

Yeah, well, I'm pretty certain the original Greek myths make AGOT look like a Disney cartoon.

Still, good to know Meg had some basis in the myth.

So I see there are people on tumblr who had been shipping Ruby/Whale together that are pissing and moaning that she might be getting together with Mulan. Because, God knows, one heart-to-heart three seasons ago = full-blown relationship.

These people need to listen to what Yvette Nicole Brown says. Just because you ship it, doesn't make it canon. *looks directly at anyone shipping SwanQueen*

... i dont see how anyone could be invested in whale/ruby... especially with their lack of screen time over the course of the series...

Especially lack of screen time together

I don't think it's a huge thing, but there are definitely a handful of fans who looked at their one scene of one-on-one interaction in S2 and decided that they were fated to be together.

I mean, Jesus, they didn't even kiss. :o

I could see SwanQueen working if it wasn't for the fact that Emma is in love with Hook and Regina has Robin. Those little details and the fact we haven't seen a hint of attraction between them (or toward any other female character) should put that to rest.

Ruby Whale? Mulan Rouge? Outside of a clever name I'm not seeing those either.

Let people dream or fantasize about it though. Not like they would stop trying to force it anyways.

eh.. Mulan and Ruby are totally going to be a thing.. and it's not a "shipper" talking...

it's the fact we know Once is going to be exploring a same-sex relationship this year (that much is confirmed) we already know Mulan likes girls....

this episode showed us an angsty ruby trying to find people "like her" (the innuendo was strong there) and her place in the world.... and there's a bit of flirtatiousness between the 2 in body language... and the fact when ruby transformed from being a wolf to human... she was on top of mulan...

that episode was pretty damn suggestive that those 2 will indeed get together down the road... and will likely fall in love while they're on their journey together and as they get to know each other....

this also works out in disney's favor... because they don't have to turn another one of their animated princesses into a lesbian... (Disney has never done a Red Ridding Hood film), and it also works for the LGBT community in that it'd be a bit stereotypical for Mulan (who again was a trope on "women can't be masculine leaders without being a lesbian) to fall for Merida (who is a take charge leader who wants to marry who she wants.. and not a man she's force to) Merida would have worsened the Trope... Ruby feels far more realistic... and a better character to pair off with.

I didn't say it couldn't happen, I just said I wasn't seeing it happen given they barely had 5 minutes of screen time together to jump to "oh they're the same-sex couple."

I could also reinterpet that brief scene into something else entirely without any sexual subtext to it but I'm not doubting that interpetation, I'm just not reading too much into it yet.

have you ever studied film?

because... it's as clear as to what they are trying to do as it is clear that we were going to Hades soon on the show several weeks ago...

No, I haven't studied film actually. :woot:

And no I'm not denying it was there either. What I am saying is it's so easy for shippers to run headlong into these things before they have any idea where it's going.
