ABC's Once Upon a Time - Part 8

The show lost me in the season inspired by frozen but given the show has been in the news, I decided to watch the finale.

My opinion on the cliffhanger is that it was certainly intriguing.

I wouldn't worry about it being a retread of the original story given the cast cull is a spoiler in itself: Henry isn't going to save the day, not in the same way Emma did anyway where everyone gets their happy ending.

I've absolutely no doubt that Parilla and Carlyle can carry things next season. In regards to O'Donoghoe, I think Hook had played his part at this stage so I'm not sure where the necessity is to keep him.

So that was pretty nice imo, a good send off to those who leave the show.
I was hoping for a bigger finale battle and all, but that was not possible.
Would have liked to see as many guest characters as possible, everyone in action and all that...but it is what it is.

Overall it was a nice way to end this chapter, you could call it Emmas chapter.
Not really interested so far in a season 7, not with the current writing.
If they can find the writing from season 1-2 again, then it would be interesting.

Looking back at season 6 now, im still pissed as hell that they waste a half season on the garbage split arc storyline with Regina.:cmad:

Either way, im not sure if i will give season 7 a chance...if not then i can say that it was a fun show, a show who imo deserved far better writing and more buzz.
You dont find shows like this often, with such good characters and a cast that is so likeable and down to earth who really care about their characters.

Recycling plots is Once Upon A Times thing. I'm not sure why anyone would be surprised they are doing it again. The showrunners rarely move far away from the shows formula.

Yeah, which is such a shame considering the premise and basis of the whole show.
You could have had such unique things...but the show often tended to repeat the same kind of plots and ideas.

Overall, I liked the finale, despite the Curse/lost memory retread. It left Emma doing the same thing she's done twice or so before, and I thought that was a waste.

I was pleasantly surprised by Rumple finally realizing the price he was paying for magic was his own family, and FINALLY deciding to side with them. Also by him killing the Black Fairy. I thought for sure that would be Emma's job. What I was expecting then was for him to fight Emma. He was intended to be a Savior and the clue did say that only Light could defeat Light, so I was sure he was going to battle Emma to same Gideon.

And sadly, I felt the fight between Emma and Gideon was anti-climactic. I would have liked it if everyone was fighting some form of darkness or bad character rather than standing around and watching. And yes, the waking kiss was also overused...

As for next season, was Jared Gilmore one of the ones who decided to go? Otherwise it seems odd that they are going with a new actor. Of course then, when they did the prelude with Lucy we would have known right away... I'll give it a shot when it comes back, but I'm really hoping this is not just the same story with a gender switch...

I did like the happy montage at the end. Realy sweet, especially when Regina found Grumpy and the others painting Queen on her office door.

Zelena didn't get to do anything except reveal that the realms were being destroyed. What a way to make it her last episode.

This is one of those shows where I wouldn't mind a reboot. I really enjoy the concept.

This might have been her last episode, but I think her real send-off was the episode where she gave up her magic a few weeks back, not to mention that musical number she got to do last week. Either way, it's not like she's been there since Day 1, so...

That's true. That was the pinnacle of her development. Afterwards, other than her song and that station wagon, she was basically reduced to the background.

lol.

The fact that they are moving out of Storybrook is promising.

I'm routinely impressed by this show's older/younger casting... this, Bailee Madison as the young Snow White, Rose McGowan as young Cora, both of the young Emmas, etc... but then I remember...

No offense to Jared but they totally got a 10 guy to play older Henry.

I thought it was a decent ending, not really surprised to see they rebooted. I'm actually going to check out S7.

Lily. Maleficent's daughter.

Fridays at 8 this fall, paired with Inhumans first and then Agents of SHIELD

“We’ve turned Friday into more of a destination for our fantasy and science fiction fans,” ABC Chief Channing Dungey told reporters Tuesday morning. “Once Upon a Time and S.H.I.E.L.D. are airing on the same night for the first time, which is giving many fans of both shows what they’ve been asking for for a long time.”

The move comes as Once Upon a Time is facing a big creative shake-up. Six cast members — including Jennifer Morrison, Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas, Rebecca Mader, Emilie de Ravin, and Jared Gilmore — have exited the series, with the show now jumping ahead a decade to focus on an adult Henry (now played by Andrew J. West) and his daughter Lucy (Alison Fernandez), as well as returning favorites Regina (Lana Parrilla), Hook (Colin O’Donoghue), and Rumple (Robert Carlyle).

“When we were looking at the schedule, it’s interesting how much pressure we’ve had from fans to put those shows closer together on the schedule for quite some time,” Dungey continued. “We like the idea of Fridays being a destination. Once Upon a Time has done a wonderful job on Sundays of keeping the lights on against football, but we’re looking to see how it will perform when it’s away from football for awhile.”
People will inevitably say "Friday Death Slot" (though that title hasn't applied in years) but if ABC really wanted to death slot the show, they would've put it on Tuesdays at 10 or something. Between Fringe and Grimm and some of the CBS shows, I wouldn't be surprised if OUAT squeezes out a few more seasons in a Friday timeslot. S***, look at Supernatural, that actually managed to escape Fridays.

Constantine suffered greatly when it premiered on Friday. How are the exs at NBC still working?

It does highlight the expectations for both shows. And likely the budget.

At least it for sure leaves nothing on Sunday nights for me to watch ABC wise.

They should have ended it with season six. The finale was okay, quite undercooked for the "Dark fairy curse scenario" and some of the characters wont return for next season, didn't do much. And the true love's kisses didn't have much effect as the previous ones, so meh.

And if the low ratings from this last season didn't kill both Aos and Ouat. This Friday night slot would. Both are heavily serialized shows, and ratings gets lower ever year and I just don't see the timeslot move doing any improvement. I guess another budget cut? But who knows, it is from the network that also renewed Quantico and canceled higher rated Friday sitcoms, Dr.Ken and Last Man Standing.

In fairness, it's seven seasons deep and this last season's numbers weren't anything to write home about, so...

Infinitely more odd to me is that they're premiering Inhumans on Friday nights. I mean, it's one thing to end up there after a time, but to start there?

Yeah, Inhumans should be bigger. Real Superheroes with Serinda Swan. Something is off there. Once and Shield could really be towards the end, but Inhumans is just starting.

It'll be interesting to see what they do on a reduced budget spread over 22 episodes next season.

Bummer, and this was the one thing I looked forward to on Sundays; guess I'm gonna have to miss the next season.
