This show is so suprisingly awesome! I was really blown away by the pilot alone and can't wait for next Sunday's episode.

Well, his Storybrooke persona is a doctor, but I don't think anything has been said about his fairy tale persona.

Correct, apparently his fairy tale counterpart is a secret surprise.

It's starting to become like a little game trying to figure out who all the characters are supposed to be. I seriously can't believe how much I'm liking this show

According to this, the second episode did very well in the ratings: http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/20...mbled-cbs-shows-sunday-night-football/109135/

“Once Upon A Time” (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

More than tripling its Adult 18-49 lead-in at 8:00 p.m. (+225% - 3.9/9 vs. 1.2/3) and building its audience throughout its broadcast opposite “Sunday Night Football” and CBS’ NFL-overrun driven programming (“60 Minutes”/”Amazing Race”), ABC’s “Once Upon A Time” finished as the definitive No. 1 non-sports program in its time period. From 8:00-9:00 p.m., ABC self starter “Once Upon A Time” beat out CBS’ football-driven combo of “60 Minutes” and “Amazing Race” by 15% (3.4/8) and Fox’s “The Simpsons” into the series premiere of “Allen Gregory” by 22% among Adults 18-49 (3.2/8), while winning its hour outright among Women 18-49 (5.3/13). Despite the fierce competition, the new ABC drama gained nearly 1.0 million viewers (11.3 million to 12.2 million) and 8% among Adults 18-49 (3.8/9 to 4.1/9) from its first half-hour to its second half-hour.

ABC’s “Once Upon A Time” retained an impressive 98% of its big week-ago series premiere audience in Adults 18-49 and 100% in Adults 18-34, while growing over its debut telecast with Teens 12-17 (+4%). In fact among young adults, “Once Upon A Time” demonstrated the strongest debut retention (Week 1 to Week 2) for any ABC fall drama launch in 6 years – since September 2005.

“Once Upon A Time” ran neck-and-neck with Fox’s traditionally high rated annual “The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror” Halloween episode as the night’s No. 1 entertainment show in Adults 18-49, and was Sunday’s No. 1 entertainment program for the 2nd week in a row in Women 18-49.

Somebody did something right.

Oh, and the Losties in here will love this:

The Once Upon A Time Wikipedia page lists five "Lost connections" in the pilot:

1 - the 108 address number
2 - the clock time of 8:15
3 - the close-up of Emma's eye
4 - a Geronimo Jackson bumper sticker
5 - a "smoke monster" engulfing the Enchanted Forest to represent the Evil Queen's curse taking effect

Does anyone else wonder if the Little Mirmaid and her Prince and the Sea Witch Ursala and Sleeping Beauty and her prince will show up in the show? We already have SB's evil witch on the show. I wonder how many story books will be present in the series as a whole.

I'll bet they'll get around to a lot of different fairy tales, we can't just get everything at once, things will get to convoluted and cluttered. We do have Cinderella coming in soon, so it's not like they'll be forgoing other major characters.

Yeah it's been really cool how they've intertwined them so far.

Don't know about the Little Mermaid characters, but we already saw Maleficent. Goes to reason that Sleeping Beauty exists somewhere.

I think Anders is going to be the huntsman.

Yeah I said that in my original post I was just speaking in general wondering if they might appear. The Little Mermaid might be a bit expensive to pull off as well as they have been doing things so far but I'd love to see her in Live action as well as Ursala.

Anyone have thoughts on casting ideas for the other story book characters?

Well so far they're just sticking with Grimms' fairytales, aren't they? So unless they branch out, I wouldn't expect to see The Little Mermaid.

As for Grimm characters I'm expecting to see this season, we've already seen the blind witch from Hansel and Gretel, so I'd expect to see those kids soon, as well as Sleeping Beauty (obviously since we've met her Witch) with possibly her prince (Philip?), and I think we also saw the ogre from Jack and the Beanstalk, so maybe Jack? And of course, there's the Huntsman, whom we now have two candidates for.

I don't think they're limiting themselves solely to the Brothers Grimm stuff.

True but in the pilot when Henry was flipping through the book it showed a picture from Alice in Wonderland so anything is possible.

Ok, I just did some digging and you're right - not only did they clearly reference a non-Grimm fairytale in the pilot (Pinnochio), but Jack and the Beanstalk, which I thought was from the Brothers Grimm actually was not. And I really think that's what that ogre was from. So I guess any classic children's tale is possible. Frankly, that opens up almost too many possibilities to even speculate on...but what the heck - Brainstorm time!

Famous Grimm fairy tales that are pretty much guaranteed (including the ones already used):

Snow White
Rapunzel
Cinderella
The Princess and the Frog
Sleeping Beauty
Rumpelstiltskin
Hansel and Gretel
Little Red Riding Hood

Other famous children's tales to look out for:

Pinnocchio
(obviously already in)
Alice in Wonderland
Jack and the Beanstalk
The Little Mermaid
The Ugly Duckling
The Three Little Pigs
(hey, it was a Disney cartoon, so it's possible!)
Thumbelina
Beauty & The Beast
Peter Pan
Robin Hood
Tom Thumb
The Snow Queen

I didn't bother with Aesop's fables because they seem more like morality tales than fairy tales, but ya never know.

Also, I don't know how they'd include Alice in Wonderland without creating a THIRD universe to keep up with. Overall, I think we'll be seeing mostly Grimm stuff at first, tbh, with the occasional non-Grimm character thrown into a minor role (like Geppetto).

No they don't. They could make Alice someone from our world who teleported somehow to the fairy tale land. Could even be how Rumpelstiltskin discovered our world.

That would be pretty crazy.

Oooh, I stand corrected. I'd like that a lot, actually.
