Batman fans, obviously.

Maybe do a search on social media.
I am a gigantic Batman fan, I am not gonna get outraged at a joke based around a character not being sufficiently respectful. The kind of Batman fan who is super defensive about a character thinking he's a fascist (not a movie taking the stance he is, but a character within the movie) isn't really worth wasting time on.

Ah, I see the weird right wing geek channels are freaking out over a harmless joke. Must be a day that ends in 'y'.

Like it or not, a lot of those idiots are the people who go to see superhero movies. Do you really think WB are in a position to alienate them?

That's a great opinion to have in a world where those fans don't make up a sizeable percentage of the audience for films like this.

My point is: why even bother putting the gag up front in the trailer, when you know it's going to annoy a sub-set of your audience?

Unless, you don't really give a s*** about how your movie performs, in which case it's fine.

Because as Captain Marvel proved, they have all the power.

They are a minority of a minority. Everyone here on this forum is a minority, we have no control over the general audience.

If the movies need those idiots to exist (which they don't) then I'd rather they just not get made. Who cares? We're not stakeholders at WB, I'd rather do something that pisses them off and makes less money than something that'll appeal to their deranged sensibilities. Franchise media should be a lot more aggressive and provocative towards the dark sides of their fan bases.

There's an argument to be made that the most recent Batman film is a three hour long treatise on why right wing Batman fans whose primary interest is the violent power fantasy are morons. One suspects they're too dumb to notice this but that is a hell of a lot more provocative than a character insulting him.

Also: Do you really think that audience is interested in a movie about a Latino family clearly geared primarily toward kids and teens?

I am totally disinterested in any politics. I'm speaking purely about the marketing of the film.
If you're not interested, okay, but you responded to my post specifically about that group of people. That group of people who were almost certainly put off by the fact that it's a movie about a brown guy anyway. I don't think it's even a blip on the radar of this movie's marketing. It'll live or die based on a number of factors, but right wing morons making clickbait outrage videos won't be it.

Well, you may well be right. I just find it a strange approach from a company who really can't afford to piss any DC fans off.

The Batman, Batman, is a cop. Kind of fashy.

Damn. I guess Indy has been doing it wrong for over 40 years...

Newsflash for those who don’t want to hear it, but the entire conceit of comic book superheroes, ultra skilled and/or powerful beings exerting their power/control over others, whether for good or ill purposes, was conceived as and is an inherently fascist concept. They, by their very nature, are political concepts.

Hate to say it, but it’s true.

Pretty sure you can't describe anyone who does things for the good of others as fascist.

All these characters exert their will on others with violence, often in international affairs in which they have no business involved in. Pretty sure anyone could describe that as fascism if they wanted...
