Assuming FF3 happens, do you want Story to come back? I have mixed feelings right now. On one hand, FF:ROTSS had many of the same problems FF had, but on the other FF:ROTSS is much better and quite enjoyable.

What do you guys think?

NOTE: This is not a I hate the movie thread (I quite liked it). This for discussion on where you want the franchise to go from here.

Also, I will ask the mods if they will keep this thread here for a while, since this topic will get more discussion here than the sequels section. I would like to keep this discussion active. Plus, this topic has to do with people's opinions on how well FF2 was directed.

Also, I will ask you only to give your opinion if you have seen the movie. I don't want blind bashing, I want criticism.

Yes, I would like to see him build upon the world that he created in these films and to complete a trilogy, at least.

He's already done the first two, so why not? I don't know why people have as much hatred for him as they seem to do for someone like a Pitof. Story genuinely seems to want to do the best he can for the franchise. Not always going to come out as every single fan wants it, but he hasn't Catwomaned the franchise at all.

Yeah it was awesome, only thing is I think they need to use another superhero or a really good villain as it would seem a step down from the Silver Sufer if there was no other villains or heroes. I just can't think which hero(es) they could use, did any heroes who haven't been made into films yet appear in any FF stories first?

Get rid of Fox.

I don't know about Story. First one was good, this one was good but too fast. He needs to slow it down, and make it PG-13 so they could've had that "badass Doom".

I haven't seen this film yet, but I say give Story the opportunity to do #3. He's already said in the exclusive interview with SHH that he's going to be looking for a different project since he's spent the last 5 years working on the F4.

I think he should at least get the chance to do it, because if memory serves, third movies with a different director haven't gone over very well.

what? really? ha ha each to their own I guess, its the bat-nipples right? ha ha

Yeah Brett ratner's X-Men sucked, I wasn't a huge fan of X2 but I know X3 was a HUGE step-down.

If FOX can reliquish its control over every detail, I'd say Story has what it takes to do this franchise right. But they really need to let him breathe.

i just saw FF2 and loved it! Tim Story should direct the next one as well

I am going to see F42, but I don't need to see it to know that he should not come back.
It's like, should Meryl Streep play Wolverine in the next X-Men movie?
No?
How do you know if you haven't even seen her take on the character?

Because, she's just not suited to the role, just as TS is not suited to the role of director for a Fantastic Four movie. *shrug*

You need someone who is KNOWN, on his own, for being an iconoclastic kind of auteur with a distinctive visual style and tone.
That's why, for all their flaws, the Spider-Man movies are SO much better than the F4 movies.
It's directly attributeable to Raimi's superiority as a director of visually-oriented, effects-driven fantasy films.

Also, after seeing his bald-faced lies about Galactus now? Hell NO he shouldn't come back. That's just....weird...like those pathological liars who will lie, even KNOWING that they don't stand to gain from it and that they WILL be caught.
It's just bizarre, like when George Lucas insisted that they never had plans to title Return of the Jedi "Revenge" of the Jedi....even though Lucasfilm had already printed up posters and merchandise.

I don't need to see the movie to know that he has, lol, NO idea what he's doing as far as guiding and okaying the design side of things.

Look, point-blank, face it...the Thing looks RIDICULOUS. That's why you'll NEVER see him for more than 1 or 2 seconds on TV commercials.
It's so embarrassing.
And, I read where he was talking about making the decision on how to portray Galactus, so he obviously had some say there....and the direction they went with is POO. :o

I'm all for a reboot.

changing the director isn't enough to fix what's wrong with franchise.

so let Tim Story do his trilogy then relaunch the franchise 8 years later with a better cast, writers, studio etc.

I liked both films, but, did notice a bit more to the characters than in the first film. They seemed to be filled out alittle more for some reason.
I too would like to see Tim return.

Two films is enough for Story. Wait until the rights fall out of FOX's hands, then restart with a director who doesn't have to learn the scope the FF stories are capable of.

I would LOVE for marvel to tie FOX up in court or stall somehow to get the Xmen, F4, and the SS rites back. I'm not trying to be negative. In fact i've come to realize that FOX and the people they hire just do not understand what makes a good movie with these characters..

I liked Ioan, Chris and Mike. I hate Alba beyond words. I really really hate Julian. Doug was amazing. Clearly, the biggest problem is story ... and that cannot be blamed on Tim. Fox wants a movie aimed at kids and ok's the script. I think the movie looked fine. I think the dialogue was poor at times. I think everything Doom did and said was horrible. I think Alba is so unbelievable in her role it takes me completely out of the film. Same with Julian.

To make the trilogy complete and consistent, I would like Tim to stay. I don't think he's the best director for the franchise, but he seems to be improving with each film. If they decide to do 4 movies, maybe get a new creative team. FF2 really was a self contained story, and didn't hint at a sequel (besides a SS film), so a new director could take the story somewhere else. But that's only if they decide to do 4 films. If they do 3, then keep Story on board.

FF's tracking is looking a bit iffy. The critic reviews are mostly bad for two films now, and it might be working against Tim. Hopefully the sequel is as big a hit as the first film, box office wise.

Even though I didn't see the second film yet, I would love for him to the the third movie. At least they might give him more room to breathe if the second becomes a success.

I've seen it. Way better than the 1st in many ways. Yes.

If Story stays on, this is one area he needs a lot of work:

Climaxes - He needs to improve his climaxes. Dr. Doom is too easily defeated in both movies. I can see keeping the Galactus confrontation brief, but the battles with Doom need to be improved.

He also needs to work on his effects work in general. The Surfer was awesome, but some moments (like Reed dancing) looked terribly fake. He needs a lot of practice.

Well FOX isn't gonna go. It is sad, but true.

Some directors really have a vision when filming translations such as Fantastic Four, so I think I'd rather see the end of Tim Story's vision, than have someone else come in and finish it.

... that is if he does have a vision.

That is one thing. I am not sure he has a distinct vision for the FF. These movies seem like single adventures rather than growing experiences. FF is light, but even a light series needs to have the characters grow through the experiences. Here, they change based more on script need (more of a problem in FF than in here).
